Private Snooping Around

Valery stepped through the door of the Noble home with the quiet grace of someone who knew exactly where she was going — and who she'd find when she got there. Her long coat had been ditched somewhere between the tailor and the door, and now the black suit beneath hugged every movement. Sleeveless. Sleek. New. A symbol of change she hadn't planned to reveal quite so soon.

But she paused in the threshold of the room anyway.

Something shifted.

Through the bond she shared with Kahlil — subtle but unmistakable — came a flicker. Not worry. Not alarm. But mischief. That familiar, slow-burning sort of feeling she got whenever he was planning to tease her. Her brows drew together ever so slightly, as she opened the door.

"…Kahlil?" she called, drawing out his name with suspicious sweetness as she stepped further into the room, hip cocked just slightly. "Where are you?" she asked innocently, but deep down, she perhaps already knew the answer.

Which made the whole thing just a little more dangerous.

Especially if he answered honestly.

He shouldn't be snooping around in this, he knew. Not at first. It was idle curiosity at first, an open book to glance through as he stepped by. But even he couldn't help but want to read more once he had realized what it was. Trouble be damned, the sheer amount of material in this journal was going to serve him well down the line.

And, well, he couldn't stop grinning like a food as he read each page.

There was no attempt to hide it. He was sat on the bed, idly and still very much reading through the pages even as she stepped into the room. He smirked ever so faintly when he did finally look up towards her, his grin widening ever so faintly. "Well, the new outfit looks good."

Valery stepped fully into the room — and stopped. Her gaze landed on him first, comfortably on the bed, smug grin blooming across his face. Then her eyes shifted downward to the diary in his hands.

Back to him.

Then, to the diary again.

And once more to him.

Her cheeks flushed so fast she could practically feel the heat hit her ears. "You didn't—" she started, voice caught somewhere between disbelief and frustration. Then she paused and squinted. Tilted her head just slightly, lips parted. "Kahlil…" she said, slow and warning, eyes narrowing even as the red crept deeper into her face. "Did you read it?"

Her voice cracked just slightly at the end. Not from anger.

From absolute, mortified horror.

"This would be the second go around." There was no reason to lie. He shouldn't have read it, he knew, but there was no stopping once he had. Curiosity was a driving force within Kahlil he couldn't keep at bay. In this case, he hadn't even bothered. He closed the book, leaning back on his hands.

"I think your butt is just right, though. Neither too large or too small."

Valery blinked.

"Second go—?" she squeaked, her voice pitching up into a full-on squeal of mortified shock. Her hands flew to her face, and she spun in a little circle like somehow turning around might make it all disappear. "You memorized it?" Her voice was muffled behind her fingers, but the disbelief — and the anticipation of inevitable teasing — was loud and clear.

Of course he did.

And then he said it. Her hands dropped just enough for her to look at him, "You think my butt is just right?" she repeated, incredulous — until her lips curled into something far more dangerous. "A perfect butt, huh?" She turned slowly, one brow raised, and with deliberate, exaggerated care, she glanced over her shoulder at him. Her hips cocked just enough to make her point, a playful smirk tugging at her lips as she gave him just the slightest little flaunt.

"Worth reading about?" she teased, brows waggling. Then she pivoted back and moved toward him — all slow, hip-swaying, deliberate steps, her smirk deepening with every inch she closed between them. When she reached the edge of the bed, she leaned down just enough to meet his gaze, eyes gleaming.

"Alright, love..." she murmured, voice low and honey-sweet, "...hand over the book."

A pause.

"Or you're in big trouble."

"Without a doubt. There's no one in this galaxy I'd want to know this much about." Kahlil just kept a smile on his face, watching Valery still. He didn't make a move yet, instead letting that smile grow to a smirk. She was trying. Really trying. He lifted the book up, holding it towards her as he leaned forward, closer to her to whisper in her ear.

"I was wondering why you decided I needed to be shirtless when we worked out, but I'm glad to know the real reason behind it all, mm?"

Valery's face practically exploded in red the second his words hit her ear.

"The gym chapter..." she squeaked, eyes wide as her whole body burned with mortification. "You read that? You actually—" She covered her face with both hands again, groaning loud enough for the neighbors to hear if they had any, and swayed like she was about to just collapse into a puddle of pure embarrassment.

For a moment, she just stood there, trying — failing — to compose herself. Then, slowly, she reached for the diary with trembling hands, snatched it from his grip, and cradled it like it had betrayed her deepest secrets. She took a breath, then walked over to the dresser, opened the drawer with exaggerated calm, and gently — very gently — slid the book inside.

Her hand lingered.

Then she turned, eyes narrowed, cheeks still bright as twin suns.

"You're in so much trouble."

And without another word, she lunged, pouncing onto the bed, trying to pin him down with all the fire her flustered heart could manage. "Think you're smug now?" she huffed, straddling him, hands pressing to his shoulders in her attempt to get on top of him.

"Let's see how long that lasts."

A bemused grin was all that awaited Valery, even as she pounced and pinned him to the bed. He didn't fight her off just yet, instead looking smug as can be at just how red her expression had turned. It was rare for him to be the brat of the two, but he absolutely was being as much now. His expression widened further.

"I am pretty smug. I don't think you're going to be able to change that, no matter what you do my love. I do look forward to seeing you try at least."

Valery was still beet-red — ears, cheeks, even the back of her neck glowed like she'd been sunburned by pure embarrassment. But she had him pinned. But more importantly, he was smirking. That infuriatingly calm, smug grin that always made her want to kiss him or shove him off a speeder, depending on the mood.

"Oh yeah?" she echoed, her voice still flustered, but with a sudden note of wickedness curling underneath.

Her hands slipped from his shoulders to the center of her jumpsuit, and with one smooth, deliberate tug, the zipper started to slide down. Just enough. Just barely enough to reveal a tasteful line of warm skin and cleavage — framed perfectly by the fabric she definitely knew how to wield to full effect.

She leaned in slow, close enough that her breath warmed the edge of his jaw, her voice dropping to a sultry whisper as her hair slipped over her shoulder.

"You're not allowed to touch," she said sweetly, her hips still firmly planted over his. "You can look... admire… think real hard about your life choices..." Her lips quirked into a devilish smirk, even as her blush somehow deepened.

"But until I forgive you? You stay right there."
