Sneeve: Selective Mutation (Invite only)

The funniest thing about intelligence gathering was that you never knew what could be found. It might be something as mundane as what flower a certain Republic senator likes to secret plans and plots. Often it came down to weeding out the gold from the dross. And the report they held in their hands had the potential to be a gold mine.

Rumors of a recently uncovered find on Sneeve passed before their desks. Hardly the most tactical of planets, Sneeve was isolated with sweeping mountain ranges, ideal for building a hidden base. However the info was spotty, all that could be confirmed was that it had been built prior to the plague and other factions were scrambling to lay claim to the possible treasure of artifacts inside. With only a rough set of coordinates to a landing field within 'walking' distance of the site, it was now a race to assert their claim and loot it for themselves.

Serpena's finest were on their way to the Sneeve location. A surplus Dragoon-class Dropship was on its way to the location, fitted with Subach-brand scanning and AWACS equipment and room for thirty soldiers. Of those, twenty were actual soldiers armed with "Acclamator" flechette tri-shotguns and "Mist" atomizing pistols. Eight were Mirari bodyguard droids, one was operating the scanning and AWACS equipment, and one was Circe Savan herself.

"The cache. Search for any active electronics located in the base. It should give us a clue as to where it and the goods inside are located.

Pre-Gulag tech was under estimated in Sargon's opinion, and at times dismissed to easily. Droidekas were dated from the Clone Wars, and they were still among the most efficient killing machines in existence. So when the possibility came up of a secret base it meant anything from an old rebellion area weapons cache, to a possible abandoned research station. As such Sargon found himself orbit Sneeve with a small group at hand. His Shadow, a pair of scientist, and a squad of eight legionnaires decked out in Blas-Tech gear.

Checking their equipment over they carried a variety of weapons of their choice, a few thermal grenades, and a few emp grenades. The only heavy weaponry was being handed by Shadow a Ravager courtesy again of the Fringe contract with Blas-Tech. The scientist were busy with their own equipment, and Sargon would be bringing his usual assortment of goodies down with him. Add too that four grenades two knock outs, and two thermal; with a pair of emp grenades. His only real ranged weapon though was a blaster pistol strapped to his leg.

All in all it was a flexible team, but against anything heavy they'd have some issues. In truth Sargon had no reason to really expect any problems on the surface or in the base. He was not however going to leave his team's security open to the odd chance that someone was already there, and wouldn't like the idea of sharing. "Pilot set us down then head back up into orbit, no need to draw attention to the site. Escort team once we get down a I want a full sweep of the area. Lets keep this dull and boring if we can. Either way stay sharp out there, no idea what's here."

The dropship was the first to arrive, crashing down through the atmosphere, trailing fire and smoke before landing in the clearing. As soon as it came to a halt, it deployed its landing gear to allow the troops to secure the area. At a glance it was very obvious that this clearing could only hold a maximum of three ships comfortably and there were no other areas cleared for spacecraft in the immediate area.

Surrounding the clearing were hills which gradually gave way to a rugged mountain range without any signs on nearby civilization at all. Most disturbingly was there were no signs of animal life of any kind, only a strange looking leafy grass, green on the outside but on the inside light yellow, which seemed to open and close following an unheard rhythm. When touched the leaves fold shut and refuse to open for some time.

As the scan was completed, the soldier reported to Circe, "High levels of electo magnetic interference in the area caused by possible heavy iron deposits we detected. There was a faint reading coming from the west about three clicks into the mountains, but it was weak and was gone again when I double checked."

"We got incoming." The report buzzed in her ear as Sargon's vessel was detected coming in from orbit, as her team scrambled for defensive positions against possible hostiles.

Cutting through the atmosphere, the electronic warfare officer reported to Sargon. "We have a ship on the ground in the target area doing active scanning. I believe we have been spotted. Multiple lifesigns on the ground. Possible hostiles sir."

Given the possible prize on hand, he wasn't too surprising that someone would laying their stake now. The question now was, would there be a fight or could they cooperate.

"Arm up, everyone. I have no intentions of making this a bloodbath, but if hostilities occur, I'd prefer being prepared over being caught as a fool. Contact that ship and see how things go."

Communications were established with @[member="Sargon Vynea"]'s ship as Circe began her introduction. "This is Polarine of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Identify yourself."

There was a quick moment of tenseness in between his legionnaire's warning of the active scan and the channel opening up from the ground. Polarine was complete unknown to him, but the CIS was an ally even before the Axis treaty had been signed. ::This is Governor Sargon Vynea of the Fringe Confedarcy, we'll be landing momentarily with a science team for exploration purposes.::

Moving to the cockpit of the ship he watched the planet as they drew closer. "Slight change in plans, since the site's already being actively used on the ground. Escort team, once we land I want a full assessment on the people on the ground, and any info on this Polarine you can pull off the holo. Science team, once we hit ground I'll want a full scan sweep thermal, radiation, and get me an encrypted channel ready. Lets see if this in an official mission or a private act."

As the response to her inquiry was relayed to her, the soldiers maintained their positions, ready to deploy at a moment's notice of their commander. True, the CIS and the Fringe were allies, but on this backwater world things could change especially if there were no witnesses to say otherwise. Right now, the soldiers on the ground were at the advantage having been deployed and in position to cover each other should the other side provide to have hostile intentions.
@Circe Savan

Following the governor's request the info was given to him as they began their descent. "Lifeforms are deployed in a tactically advantagous position, combined with our analysis of their obvious weaponry puts the probability that they are some sort of elite CIS strike team at 90%. We count at least two dozen fighters, with active scanning ability. We could not pull any files on Polarine that weren't classified. Encrypted channel on line 6, sir."

As soon as they landed scans were made and reports of high electromagnetic interference from metal deposits in the region although there was a brief reading coming from the western direction. Possible echo trace or a ghost image because it was gone as quickly as it was detected.
@Sargon Vynea
