Dieter felt the weightlessness from his rocket pack end and the heft of gravity pulling him back toward the ground. He arched through the air, weapon pointed below, waiting for his helmet's scanners to pick up targets. Thirty meters till impact... twenty-five meters... fifteen meters... it wasn't until ten meters that his HUD lit up with both friendlies and hostiles. But, like clockwork, Dieter and the four other marines began firing on hostiles as they pierced through the trees.
He hit the ground with a loud thud and with enough force to create a small crater where he hit. The internal mechanisms and dampeners took the majority of the fall but would need to be looked at after this mission. However, Dieter had little time to think about that as a slug ricocheted off the pauldron of his armor, taking a chunk of the duranium with it. They were being shot at from three different directions, with a cliff edge behind them.
"Use your grenade launchers in sectors eight, nine, and ten! If they are using the trees as cover, then destroy the trees!" He said over the holocomm raising his HIMAR to account for the drop before launching a grenade directly into the chest of a Sakiyan hunter.
After a few volleys of grenades the blaster and slug-fire stopped; everything quieted down and the sound of insects and other animal life returned to the area. Dieter ordered a few of the other marines to check the corpses of the hunters but to stay in sight of their defensive position. He walked over to this squad's lead ensign, his left arm was limp and his armor was stained with his blood, another ensign helped lift him to his feet, which was littered with a couple of aerosol bacta canisters.
"LT my left arm is kriffed. The bleeding has stopped, but hurts like hell," he said shifting onto his own weight.
"I can still use my right and my three-p to finish the mission."
"I like your spirit. You'll be in the back with him," he said pointing to the medic ensign that helped him up.
"Your second will take over the lead position."
"Sir, we are done with the hunter corpses." They waited until Dieter nodded for them to go on.
"They are using high-powered slugthrowers with armor-penetrating rounds. We were able to follow footsteps in a north-northwestern direction for another twenty meters before the tracks disappeared."
"Good job ensign. For now, we are going to hold here for the Major's group. I want everyone to watch their sectors while I consult with him."
Once the Major arrives...
"Major, it's good to see you. I didn't know we were supposed to bring attractive company, if so I would've told these boys to stay home," he said pointing over his shoulder to his men.
"Who's your guest?"
