Meri Vale
Character
Meri accepted the datapad back with both hands, fingers curling around it a little more tightly than necessary, as if the simple weight of it suddenly mattered more than it had a moment ago.
She watched Maur's hands carefully as she signed, taking in every word, every small shift of expression that came with it. When Maur finished, Meri's shoulders eased, just a fraction, like something inside her had finally been allowed to unclench.
Her hands lifted in response, her signing a little faster now, brighter with emotion she did not try to hide.
[[That's okay,]] she signed quickly. [[I know you're busy. And I know your work is important.]]
She hesitated for half a heartbeat, then added more softly,
[[It still means a lot. Knowing you'll call back. Knowing I can reach you.]]
The faint hum of the engines made the floor vibrate beneath her feet, and she glanced around at the settling passengers before turning back to Maur, a small, excited smile spreading across her face.
[[I've never been to Theed before,]] she admitted, hands moving with quiet enthusiasm. [[I've read about it. The gardens. The waterways. The old buildings.]]
Her eyes shone a little as she finished.
[[I'm ready,]] Meri signed.
