Slice and Dice

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Ordinarily, Circe didn't deal with slicers. Many of them, despite Subach's significant anti-viral technology, could cause her company significant peril. But there was a reason she was here - she wanted help for the next set of Subach system upgrades. She wanted the slicer she had hired - the one known as Rainbow - to hack the system again and again, so patches could be made for the next software update.

Hopefully, she would arrive soon.

The truth was Rainbow didn't know too much about the job she'd been hired to do. It sounded like she was fault testing, essentially, finding weaknesses in a system so that it would be even harder to crack when it went public. Which, to her, seemed a little counter-intuitive for her to do. After all, she was a slicer. She made credits by slicing. It was simple, obvious and easy to understand. Making a system impenetrable now would stop her from ever being able to slice it in the future.

But hey, a pay cheque was a pay cheque, right?

Rainbow arrived, all 4"10 of her, tiny looking and so thin and bony that she looked genuinely delicate, her skin a pale, almost paper white and her hair that mixture of bleached blonde and pink she was so fond of. Her make-up was heavy, almost cyber-punk with heavy dark blue eye shadow, and she was wearing a shiny, glimmering black vest top, black leggings, and stiletto boots (that had hidden supports inside; her cryo-sleep damaged muscles would otherwise be in agony). Essentially, she made sure she looked the part of the teenage slicer prodigy. The only off putting thing about her was the amount of perfume she seemed to be wearing, truly living up to 'Flowers' as a name. But she looked the part.

And then she opened her mouth.

"Hiya! I'm Rainbow!" She said in a cheerful, high pitched voice, complete with a little wave. "So, you have a job for me?"

"Indeed." Circe held her hand out, a smile on her face as a shake was given. "See, our droid systems need to be comparable to or superior to that of our chief automaton competitors. For that, the systems need to be practically unsliceable. The more durable our AI system in each droid, the less of a chance an enemy would be able to disable them, or in the worst case scenario, turn the droid against its purchaser. Your slicing skills are well above the norm, and as such, I hired you in order to help significantly advance the durability of our AI."

She paused, motioning to a small transparisteel box. The top was open, revealing the miniature model of an SKD-84 Combat Droid. The miniature was a droid - but it was disarmed, though as functional as the full-sized droid. "You will be operating with this and whatever standard slicing equipment you typically use. Your goal is to, through various means and methods, hack the droid's systems until you can control it to touch the small flag on the far side of the tank. We will then fix the slice you used, and you'll do it again. For every successful slice, you'll earn one hundred credits."
