OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: Create a cute, fluffy, gnoll-like creature, and for Lucy to have guard pups, of sorts.
  • Canon: N/A

  • Links: Squib, Hyenax, Slakari-hound, Butchers, Scourge
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Skreelings
  • Designation: Semi-sentient
  • Origins: Vanqor
  • Average Lifespan: 12–20 standard years
  • Estimated Population: Rare
  • Description: Skreelings are compact, fur-covered quadrupeds resembling a fusion between a Squib, a hyena, and a mischievous toddler. Despite their adorable, wide-eyed appearances and chirpy vocalizations, they are lethal Sithspawn trained as loyal bodyguards and saboteurs. Their fur often shimmers in unnatural hues, with many exhibiting blue tones reminiscent of their Squib genetic origin. In groups, they behave like cunning, scavenger packs — loyal to Lucy alone, playful in private, and vicious in battle.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I (Standard oxygen atmosphere)
  • Average Height of Adults: 1.0 meter at shoulder when quadrupedal; up to 1.3m when partially upright
  • Average Length of Adults: 1.5 meters
  • Skin color: Black, gray, blue, or pink undercoat (usually not visible beneath fur)
  • Hair color: Bright blue, dusky indigo, blood red, slate gray, or gradient shades (engineered to appeal or deceive)
  • Distinctions:
    • Fanged, oversized mouths with unhinging capability
    • Fluffy, plush coats with adaptive camouflage in rare cases
    • Curled, expressive tails and oversized Squib-like ears
    • Capable of limited upright walking
    • Glowing red or gold eyes in darkness
    • Emit chirps, yips, and disturbing laughter-like sounds
  • Races:
    • Shimmerskin: Albino or reflective-furred variants, deployed for stealth
    • Mawlings: Bulkier, darker-toned warbred Skreelings used in raids
  • Force Sensitivity: Low (selectively bred for heightened perception; rarely manifests Force ability in offspring)
  • Physical Description: At first glance, a Skreeling resembles a fluffy mammalian predator with exaggerated Squib features — expressive ears, large blinking eyes, and thick, plush fur. Yet beneath the cuddly exterior lie heavy Hyenax bone structure, semi-opposable claws, and the Slakari-hound’s vicious underbite.

They are deceptively small, compact creatures whose gait oscillates between bouncing playfully and stalking like a beast. Their coloration ranges from pastel hues (bioengineered by Lucy to be “adorable”) to more naturalistic earth tones. Some feature unnaturally colored irises, glowing in low light.

Strengths:
  • Deceptively Cute: Appear harmless, even pet-like — ideal for infiltration or surprise attacks. Uses pheromones to lure people in, causing people to want to snuggle them...
  • Pack Tactics: Coordinate ambushes using mimicry, diversions, and group strikes. Agile, fast, and vicious.
  • Detachable Fur: similar to decoy fluff — if grabbed, the Skreeling can shed fur to escape
Weaknesses:
  • Bound to Lucy: Imprinted on Lucy Fortan Raaf; they resist or ignore orders from most others.
  • Vocalization Dependency: Communicate and coordinate through sound — susceptible to sonic interference or mimicry confusion.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore; prefer raw meat, bone marrow, and fruit. Drawn to sugary or fatty treats. Will accept food as bribery but still may bite the hand that feeds.
  • Communication:
    • Chirps, chuffs, yips, warbles, and barks
    • Non-verbal cues (tail sways, ear flicks, pack formation shifts)
    • Some mimicry of sounds (sobbing, mewing, doors creaking, etc.) for psychological tactics
    • Technology level: None individually; capable of pressing buttons, tearing cables, or playing with datapads
  • Primary Sounds:
    • Chirps – High-pitched, playful tones used in casual social settings or when alerting others to presence (“I’m here!”).
    • Chuffs – Short bursts of breathy huffs, used for affection or curiosity. Often directed at Lucy or favored people.
    • Cackles & Yips – Similar to hyenax laughter, used to express amusement, mockery, or pack cohesion. Louder during combat.
    • Barks – Sharper, staccato sounds for warning or attention. Also used in synchronized pack communication.
    • Whines & Warbles – Drawn out, wobbling sounds expressing disappointment, hunger, or confusion. Very expressive.
    • Hiss-clicks – Sithspawn-exclusive; low-register defense sounds infused with alchemical resonance. Causes unease in Force-sensitives.
  • Linguistic Traits:
    • Semiotic Complexity: Their language is closer to a paralinguistic code — not quite language, but expressive enough for intent, mood, and commands.
    • Lucy's Imprint Language: Lucy speaks to them in Galactic Basic, but they respond in chirps, yips, and clicks — yet understand her fully.
    • Command Recognition: Each Skreeling is trained to understand up to 200+ unique vocal and emotional cues from Lucy alone.
  • Religion/Beliefs:
    • Regard Lucy as a goddess/mother/chosen being
    • Display rituals such as trophy-gathering or bone-decoration around her den (home) or ship
  • General behavior:
    • Live in small, matriarch-led packs with rigid social hierarchy
    • Raise young communally; all Skreelings imprint on Lucy or her scent
    • Highly expressive, emotional creatures — cackle, pout, sulk, and preen
    • Nocturnal by design; see well in low light
    • Loyal to the point of post-mortem aggression if Lucy is harmed
  • Combat behavior:
    • Attack in coordinated waves, targeting soft tissue and electronics
    • Use Slakari-hound speed and reaction time for ambush kills
    • Infectious bites: low-grade alchemical venom causes fever, confusion, and delirium
    • Emit disorienting yowls (Sithspawn sonic amplification) to startle prey
  • Behavioral Notes:
    • Walk upright sometimes, hunch-backed and waddling with exaggerated arms and toothy smiles.
    • Use rudimentary mimicry to imitate speech, often in singsong voices ("Lu-cy! Lu-cy!")
    • Can follow "clues" left behind — chemical, Force, or memory echoes — making them ideal for tracking prey, intruders, or wayward Sith acolytes who “forgot” their lessons.
  • Pack Structure:
    • Matriarchal Hierarchy: One dominant female Skreeling (likely Lucy's favorite) leads the pack.
    • Sub-chatterers: Lower Skreelings who repeat and echo words — sometimes backwards.
    • Bone-Binders: Those who “decorate” their dens with scavenged bones, tech parts, or Lucy’s old accessories.
  • The Societal Facade: As part of her flair for theatrical subversion, Lucy encourages others to dismiss them as:
    • Vanity pets
    • Exotic furballs
    • Spoiled companion animals
  • In reality:
    • Skreelings are rigidly trained, with encoded safewords and battle formations
    • Their fur is synth-fibered and blaster resistant; claws are sharpened durasteel derivatives
    • They’ve been spotted climbing walls, crawling through ducts, and ripping through armor
    • Lucy often feeds them treats in public. They purr.
  • Temperament:
    • Playful when idle, murderously focused when deployed
    • Pack hunters with tightly coordinated tactics
    • Known to “gift” trophies to Lucy, or designated handlers.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Skreelings were developed by Lucy Fortan Raaf in the aftermath of her extensive studies into Sithspawn behavior, emotional imprinting, and adaptive hybridization. Inspired by her grandmother Taeli Raaf's infamous Mochirsa Butchers and Wohmotai Scourge, Lucy sought to create something uniquely her own: less monstrous, more portable, yet no less terrifying in the right context.

She began with the Squib genome for intelligence and manipulative expressiveness, layered in Hyenax traits for bone-crushing aggression, and refined them using the Slakari-hound’s coordination and pack loyalty. Through a blend of alchemy, dark science, and aesthetic obsession, she produced the first batch — blue-furred, big-eyed, and sharp-toothed.

The galactic elite scoffed — until a Skreeling ripped out the throat of an assassin disguised as a server.

They now remain a rare but feared presence, known colloquially as “Sithsnugglers,” “Lucy's Little Horrors,” or simply, the Blue Ones.
Most wisely keep their distance — or bring treats.
