ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:
  • Heavy, long-range firepower
  • Capable of landing on planets
  • Small bow-on or astern target profile
Weaknesses:
  • Slower and less maneuverable than a typical escort frigate: its speed and maneuverability are more easily comparable to ships twice its size
  • Limited ammunition: can be a problem in prolonged firefights
  • Firepower consolidated in a single hardpoint: it is thus vulnerable to other corvettes and frigates capable of outrunning the main battery's traverse
  • Once the main turret is destroyed, a breach of the ammunition magazine will likely ensue, killing the ship along with it (unless the magazine is exhausted)
  • Once the forward armor is penetrated, a breach of the ammunition magazine will likely ensue, killing the ship along with it (unless the magazine is exhausted)
  • Easy to capture if a hull breach doesn't kill the ship: the internal space mostly gave way to the reactor, hangar and ammunition magazine, giving the ship limited space for crewmembers
Description: Although the Skor has admirably served a variety of light-sided navies since the ill-fated Anoat sector campaign, it was found that the point-defense relying on projectiles was a liability in prolonged engagement, while the space savings made allowed it to free up some space for handling a squadron of attack craft, alongside with a host of new improvements, such as new cap drains, explosive-reactive armor and self-sealing hypermatter tanks. Despite this, the limited space to work with made it so that the crew feels very cramped, but it was a worthwhile sacrifice to make, especially given the main hardpoint's ammunition magazine taking up a significant amount of space.

The Skor features one retractable 420mm heavy long-range hypervelocity cannon turret in the forward section, designed specifically for allowing smaller ships to mount such heavy consolidation weapons after the old 380mm one was found to be unsuitable for use on such a small ship, forming the ship's main battery, with a humongous ammunition magazine underneath the turret. However, it is the only anti-capital ship weapon mounted onboard and thus falls prey to the classical weaknesses of the type: fast corvettes and frigates can close range and outrun the main battery's traverse and, from there, can destroy it, and also it is relatively easy to capture due to the low crew complement and the limited space for crewmembers. Finally, while the ship is capable of taking a couple hits from barrel consolidation weapons before the armor is penetrated, once it is penetrated in the forward section, it is likely that a chain reaction is triggered in the ammunition magazine and the ship is destroyed as a result.
