DESCRIPTION
It was found in several smaller-scale engagements that the Guernica, while adequate for low-survivability missions, was not the most appropriate choice for high-survivability bombing missions. The Sko heavy bomblet generator was designed in an attempt to provide a heavy bomblet generator for those craft expected to be used in high-survivability bombing missions, providing effectively unlimited ordnance. Because high-survivability missions often require one to switch the size of the bomblet, the Sko comes with two firing modes: an economy mode, whereby it drops the energy bomb equivalent of a proton bomb for a maximum firing rate of 6 rounds per minute, and a full-power mode, where it drops ordnance equivalent to 2 proton bombs for a maximum firing rate of 3 rounds per minute. The blast radiuses of each mode are 100m and 200m, causing the most damage within 15m and 30m respectively of the impact point.

Nevertheless, as with regular bomblet generators, the Sko is an unstable beast: if fired too often, it can even explode, usually taking the mount craft along with it, if it is small enough: a run-of-the-mill bomber equipped with a Sko would likely explode in such an occurrence, while a gunship may only have a rather large hole in its hull. In addition, since energy bombs are unguided weapons, a launch platform equipped with a Sko has to approach the target at rather close ranges to be effective, and has limited accuracy due to their unguided nature.

Important note: for subcapital construction purposes, a Sko heavy bomblet generator is worth 2 bomb bays

Strengths:
  • Unlimited ammunition
  • Can adjust firepower according to the desired effects
  • Can deliver heavy firepower at full power
Weaknesses:
  • Slow rate of fire
  • Unguided ordnance: it requires the launch platform to approach the target at close range to be able to effectively fire a proton bomb and has limited accuracy
  • Unstable: if fired too often in a short period of time, the bomblet generator can explode, usually taking the mount craft along with it if it is small enough
