Eralam
Character
As far as dustballs went, the planet Dorin, home of the Kel Dor, was one of the strangest ones.
The atmosphere in particular made it a rarity. Most planets had atmospheres consisting of nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, and other fairly common elements. Dorin's was helium. Most planets with helium atmospheres were tiny, frigid little chunks of hell that orbited around the dark, inhospitable edges of most systems. For a planet with standard gravity and a relatively temperate climate, it was unique. It even supported life, and had a sentient native species. That didn't make it any less deadly to humans, however.
As such, visitors had to wear breath masks at all times. Either that, or bring portable pressurized shelters with them. Without them, unconsciousness would occur in less than a minute, with death not long after.
Our combatants face each other in an ancient practice circle built by the inhabitants. The floor is stone, worn smooth by pounding feet over the centuries. The circle is ringed by large boulders, the circle itself stretching fifty feet across. Being thrown out of the arena does not necessarily count as a loss, but leaving voluntarily will be counted as a forfeit.
Due to the fact that any sort of pressurized shelter would be shredded within instants by any fight worth the name, the combatants are given breath masks. The masks are sturdy enough to take a beating, but a direct hit can certainly knock it off a fighter's face. Protecting the breath mask would be essential.
