Strengths:
  • Heavy long-range firepower
  • Can land on planets: it can thus land a sizeable invasion force for ground assaults
  • Strong hull
  • Strong defenses
Weaknesses:
  • Slow, unmaneuverable
  • Exposed command tower
  • Exposed ventral hangar
  • Exposed shield generators atop the command tower
  • Exposed aft tailfin: if the tailfin explodes, it triggers a chain reaction that may take the reactors down with it, and also disables the hyperdrive as well as its ability to land on planets
Description: Designed based on the Mateus-class elite carrier, the Sionoma-class ship is named after Gabriel Sionoma. Therapy Command realized on Asmeru that there were more possibilities for the hull that may not require high squadron numbers, but nevertheless called for additional firepower, especially when engaging enemies that do not have large numbers of fighters or do not have a lot of long-range firepower. Given that nearly half the firepower is stored in long-range hardpoints, it allows commanders to smash targets at long range, and then enemies agile enough to outrun the heavy hardpoints will then enter standard turbolaser range, where the smaller hardpoints can then be brought to bear against them. Of course, with the ship bristling with weapons, an additional reactor had to be mounted, but even when accounting for the space that additional reactor takes up, freeing up six squadrons allows to free up enough space for an additional 9,000 passengers, albeit in somewhat limited conditions of comfort. But even with just 4 squadrons, the ventral hangar is still just as exposed as was the case on its predecessor. As with nearly all dagger designs, dorsal, port and starboard weapons can all swing on 180-degree azimuthal arcs, meaning that they can all be brought to bear on the forward arc given the geometry of the ship.

Due to its ability to land on planets, granted by six repulsorlift generators and sixty ventral-mounted landing gears, its high cargo and passenger capacity, it allows commanders to use a Sionoma for landing troops for ground assaults. However, retaining the chassis means that several of the weaknesses of the chassis will also be retained: while the tailfin weakness has never been exploited in battle by its elite carrier predecessor, it was found that destroying the aft tailfin would not only hamper the ship's ability to land in planets or to jump to hyperspace, it would also expose the reactors, which can then be fired at by other attack craft. In addition, while the ventral point-defense and the turbolaser firepower is concentrated around the ventral hangar, the two heavy ventral hardpoints are located forward and aft of the central hangar respectively. Finally, as with all dagger designs, the Sionoma also shares a weakness under the form of a massive superstructure, topped by an exposed command tower.
