ALEE,
HUTT SPACE

"Alright. We're here."

A single vessel emerged from hyperspace arriving in orbit of the world of Alee. It was a relatively obscure planet, an agriworld located at the very edge of Hutt Space with both the Imperial Confederation and the Black Sun on their doorstep both galactic powers already eying out the planet for it's resources. However this was not the reason for Joseph Torson's visit. His interest was in the abandoned shipyard that orbited the planet, which had once been operated by the now defunct Jedi-aligned Starlight Corporation.

Torson was here on a mission sanctioned by the Imperial Confederation's Security Service. He along with a team of mercenaries conveniently assembled in the aftermath of the Black Sun's attacks on Voss and the Parlemian, were tasked with surveying the shipyard and determining whether it could be restored by the Confederation and then towed into Imperial space for future usage by the Imperial Navy, all before the Black Sun could get their hands on it.

It was a simple mission and the Imperial Security Service already estimated that it would be a low-risk operation, which was a nice change of pace for Torson who was used to more high-risk and high-stakes operations. If anything this would be a simple in and out mission and before long he and his team would know it they would be back to Cholganna where the Mercenaries would collect their paycheck.

Nevertheless after their arrival at Alee, Torson would slowly pilot his infiltrator vessel towards one of Shipyards hangars before eventually parking it within the empty hangar. Once the ship had made landfall, the rear entrance ramp would protract from the main body of the ship allowing it's occupants to emerge from the vessel ready to begin their mission.

Silent Docks by Joseph Torson Joseph Torson

The simplest jobs were the ones that often resulted in the most unexpected variables. Jobs meant to be in and out. Jobs meant to be a quick steal. A quick kill. A simple job.

It was never simple. Kiera Sifdin always assumed the worst case scenario, because more often than not those kind of thoughts were the ones that saved her. But would they need to be used on this day, those kinds of thoughts?

She didn't know much about the job- all the more reason to assume the worst. Regardless of what she did or didn't know, Kiera was here and would do anything to get their objective. Today that objective was an abandoned station in orbit above Alee. The Imperial Confederation had commissioned this mission and offered a decent amount of credits to see it done. Although money was something Kiera cared little for, the grand plans she had required a line of sizable credits. This job was among the first that would begin building towards those plans.

But before anything could be done, the mission.

Stepping down the ramp she checked her dual pistols to ensure their safeties were indeed disabled. She was in her standard black and gold tunic, armor neatly tucked beneath it hidden away. The others on this adventure would note she was wore a light cloth mask with an elaborate and decorative design on it, golden in color. She didn't care if they knew her name, as she'd likely lie or use an alias anyways. But her face? For now she didn't want to be known. That day would come, as she hoped it would, though for now secrecy was her friend.

Her pistols ready and primed, she next took the blade from her boot and ran her finger along it. Recently sharpened. Stowing it she eyed the others on the team. It wasn't a large team by any means- about the size one might expect from a simple extraction job. She chuckled just beneath her breath.

Her gaze shifted towards the rest of the hanger, which was about as messy as one might expect from a station that was hurriedly abandoned. She pondered briefly what exactly they would be extracting but only for a moment. Her attention swung to the rest of the team.

Time to get to work.

Waiting aboard the shuttle was a relatively short Eldorai wrapped in a cloak of black feathers, hooded with a large durasteel case strapped over her shoulder. A small yellow droid clung to her back, its front claws wrapped around her neck and clutched together to keep itself in place as a long tail with a large optical lens scanned around curiously. To any that may be sensitive to the Force they'd note a stark absence of it around the short elf, a void where the Force itself didn't want to go near, she was Force Dead. Though Riven wasn't aware that she may not be the only one with such a condition present on the team...

She wasn't entirely certain that she should bring the Horizon Killer contained within its durasteel case to an abandoned shipyard, but maybe she'd get the opportunity to set it up at some point providing there was enough space to cover with it. Besides that she kept her LO-22S holstered at her hip beneath her cloak along with some shiva knives and achlys grenades. The Eldorai had introduced herself under one of her more common aliases; Ash, and as she waited alongside the others she held an unlit cigarette between her lips that she seemed to roll about with the tip of her tongue in her mouth.

Riven had already looked over her equipment, ensured everything was accounted for and operational as her droid remained clutched to her like a backpack offering light beeps and whirrs while its optical camera examined the rest of her team curiously. It seemed the elf herself was of very few words though and often avoided direct eye contact, her social anxiety always getting the better of her whenever she worked with a group. Her best hope was to set up somewhere and provide some cover if possible, otherwise she was going to be stuck using her pistol... But at least she was an extremely good shot with it.

As the shuttle touched down she adjusted the durasteel case over her shoulder with a light tug and took out her pistol as she kept it in one hand. She'd stay at the back of the group once they set out if possible; no doubt her companions were far more equipped for the front line than she was.

"So Torson, you decided not to bring a whole Platoon this time? Must be something special about this old hulk..." Tibera didn't wait for Torson to answer her before donning her helmet, her bulky frame barely fitting in the doorway of the cockpit.

Something wasn't sitting well with Tibera, and it wasn't just the fired tigersquid she had for lunch! The Coalition wasn't in the habit of sending teams of mercs out for nothing, and a surveying job just seemed to be a waste of resources. Though, she wasn't being paid to think, so her mind would have to be occupied planning on how to spend her next check.

Her plans were halted though, when her eyes met Kiera, a masked woman who seemed to know her chit. She was checking over her pistols, fingers quickly moving to the safety switches. DL-44s were dinosaurs, but they were still the galactic standard for blaster pistols. Everyone from feral street kids on Coruscant, to trained military officers knew how to operate one.

Something told her this chick meant business with those things, and that staying out of her way if the shooting started might be a good idea. Her armor was blaster hardened, but those big pistols were definite hole punchers, nasty if you did take a shot.

These, admittedly paranoid, thoughts would be dispelled as Tibera stepped her way to a rack inside the transport. There on the wall was an odd sight to be sure, a rifle with an actual magazine! Yes, Tibera was pulling out the slugthrower for this one, just in case there were still Jedi in this old station. If the saber swingers showed up, then they'd be getting drilled full of holes for their trouble!

Once the release lever was pulled, she was able to take the well-worn rifle off the wall, her index and ring finger pulling the charging handle back. Then the bolt picked up a single steel-cased bullet.

"Locked, loaded, ready to put some slugs in fools," Tibera said to no one in particular, she'd need to get over this habit of talking to herself! Better to just collect her mix of cryoban and frag grenades and be off to first objective.

After landing the vessel Joseph Torson was approached by Tibera Jessen, one of the mercenaries who was directly on Sularen payroll, as she commented about the nature of this mission. "The Supreme Commander simply likes to recycle and reuse old stuff." he simply responded. "Something about it being cheaper and more efficient then making newer stuff." he added. Of-course there was more this mission then simply restoring and reusing an old drydocks but Torson knew that the questions always came after the mission, not before.

He then proceeded to leave the cockpit of the vessel as he made his way towards his personal quarters within the small vessel moving forth to check and gather his equipment. A Heavy Pistol, a pair of Blaster Pistols, a lightsaber resistant vibroblade (Incase Force-users got involved), six grenades and old NIO-era Armor outfitted a jetpack an a Service droid attached to the dorsal part of his armor. It wasn't the absolute best gear in the galaxy, but it would still be sufficient enough to carry on this task for the Supreme Commander.

After making the final checks to his gear and equipping himself, Torson proceeded to exit his infiltrator, walking down it's entrance ramp as he approached the trio of mercenaries the Supreme Commander had hired. Upon reaching them, he took out a small hand-held holopad and began to speak. "Okay, so our mission is very simple. To determine whether this Station is in good enough condition for a little Imperial makeover." he began. "To that end our immediate priority would be to restore power to the station and disable it's defenses." he added.

Then with a click of a button, the holographic device activated displaying a full map of the drydocks for the three mercenaries to view. "Right now we're here, in one of the hangars within the drydock's Central Hub." he said pointing to a specific portion of the map. "Our current destination will be the bridge where we'll be able to manually restore the power and hopefully be disable the defenses." he added. "However we don't know if the station has any contingencies or boobytraps to prevent foreign intruders from accessing it, hence why we were sent here in advance. Any questions?"

Kiera listened in as more specifics about their mission came to light. Imperials loved their theatrics, something's never change no matter how far along in history you find yourself, least that's what she believed. Theatricality aside the mission was as clean cut as it could be: a standard sweep and securing of the station.

Her eyes examined the hologram of the station, taking particular note of the reactor and engine rooms. She may have been here for a job but that didn't mean she couldn't forward her own agenda where she could. For now her eyes shifted to the rest of the station as they received their first directive of securing the bridge.

She smirked beneath her mask as Joseph Torson Joseph Torson looked for confirmation that the assignment was understood. Without saying a word, Kiera took a step back and casually made her way to one of the several doors leading out of the hanger and into the many halls of the station.

The door was unpowered as she expected. Taking a deep inhale, she kneeled down and placed her fingers firmly beneath the crack of the door. Gritting her teeth, her breath still held, she began to force the door upward and open. Was she trying to make a point to her fellow mercenaries? Perhaps. After all the feat of forcing an unpowered door open wasn't easy, especially for a non-Force sensitive. Not for Kiera, whose heart burned to destroy such things.

She finally let out the air that had filled her lungs, her arms now holding open the door above her head. She gave a simple nod for the others to follow.

For now she would stick to the job, but when she saw her chance she wouldn't hesitate to take it. The core was her prize, and she didn't need anyone getting in her way.

Tibera looked over the Holomap that Torson was projecting, looked like tight quarters and lots of spots for ambushes. Overall, it shouldn't be a difficult op. The one thing she was glad of though, looked like there was no OPFOR anywhere nearby. Unless this place had security droids, it was unlikely that there would be anyone shooting at them. The mountainous lady relaxed her shoulders as things seemed less serious now.

Best thing to do now was just play it cool and head towards the first objective, that being the bridge. Before she could even start walking, one of the other girls managed to lift up the door to the first hallway bare-handed! That got a resounding whistle of surprise out of Tibera.

"Well, looks like I'm not the only one here who likes to lift heavy chit..." She then looked over to Joseph, he smirk hidden behind her helmet. "The Commander must have a type," She said slyly, joking of course. Sully probably only cared for women as far as he could use them for meat shields.

Putting aside the feat of strength she just witnessed, and the minor shock thereof, Tibera made her way through the doorway. She'd gladly take point on the operation, she was used to meeting the unknown head first. Wearing the scars of past instances with pride. Kriff it was dark in here, glad that she could turn on the headlights!

Tibs placed her fingers on a button on her helmet, causing two lights near the bottom to flick on. The light was substantial enough to light the way, and make sure no horrid gribblies would come to bite their face off, at least, not without prior warning! Metal creaked and floors groaned as the group walked forward. Seemed like the station wasn't doing so hot. Being left derelict would do that. If anything, this place was in too good a state!

Was someone keeping this place going? Maybe clankers, or maybe some Jedi who want to restore it, just like they did! It was puzzling, the station should have some signs of disrepair, but the whole place was spotless, like everyone moved out yesterday!

As Torson approached to brief the team Riven turned to listen intently. While she looked towards him as he explained their mission her gaze lingered towards the floor, only being redirected once the holomap was pulled up. Her crimson eyes then focused on their destination; the bridge, and she gave a nod of affirmation in response. There were no questions from the short assassin, mostly because she really didn't want to prolong discussion...

But it seemed that the rest of the team were just as assured in their mission as Riven turned to watch Kiera already making her way to one of the doors. A brief glance was turned back towards Torson with a light shrug before she followed after her, giving a light tug to the durasteel case strapped over her shoulder while her droid offered a brief whirr as the optical camera at the end of its tail peered over her other shoulder, always alert and paying attention to the Eldorai's surroundings.

She watched as Kiera lifted the door plainly and was surprised by her strength, and it appeared that from Tibera's words that she too was just as strong perhaps. The commander indeed might have a type but Riven herself was certainly the outlier in that regard considering how small she was. With a brief glance of acknowledgement she moved forward and through the opened door behind Tibera as she held her pistol at the ready, likewise flicking on a small light beneath the barrel as it helped illuminate the ominously dark hallways.

Giving a brief glance to her droid companion she spoke for the first time, her voice very soft and quiet; "Watch for heat signatures..." she instructed as the droid gave a low beep in response. This station would be cold, awfully so, without the power running. Riven was sure that if there were possible hostiles within this ghostship that they'd stick out like a sore thumb for her droid's scanner, whether organic or not, most machines run hot after all.

As perhaps expected she'd stick to the back of the group once they were through the door, keeping the rear covered, but her droid was constantly swiveling its scanner around to keep an eye out in every direction.

Once Torson finished the briefing, the other mercenaries got to work with Kiera heading towards one of the non-powered doors and forcing it open through her sheer strength alone. It was an impressive display of her strength which Torson took a mental note of, he was certain that Sularen would be interested in making use of such talent to further advance the goals of the Confederation. Tibera was quick to acknowledge Kiera's strength with some banter regarding Sularen. He couldn't help but chuckle a bit at that comment considering the entire team with the exception of him was comprised of women.

Setting the jokes aside, Torson would proceed to move forward joining the team as they made their way into the narrow hallways of the drydock, which surprisingly looked in a better condition then they should be. While metal creaked and floors groaned as the team advanced through the hallway, it did seem a bit strange that the station was in such a condition. But if that meant that the mission could proceed more smoothly then Torson didn't mind.

As the team advanced slowly through the hallway they would arrive at an hallway intersection with a set of elevators visible up ahead. Taking another look at the holomap, Torson took note of a nearby set of stairs that would give him and the team direct access to the level containing the control room. Thus, Torson proceeded to round the corner of the intersection to the right where the hallway would lead him and the team towards the stairs. In time they would be in the control room ready to begin the process of restoring power to the station and evaluating it's status. ]

However when Riven crossed corner of the intersection, the station suddenly began to rumble as a once dormant subsystem was activated which caused lights to start to flicker and blast doors to suddenly close right in the middle of the team formation splitting them up in two. Alerted to this sudden development, Torson quickly turned around just to see the two individual at the rear disappear behind the heavy blast door as they closed shut right infront of him.

"Well that's certainly not concerning" he said sarcastically.

The station was as Kiera had thought it to be. The halls were cold and was. The air was frozen in time. For several minutes it was almost a deafening silence were it not for their boots banging against the metal floors.

Then the silence was ended. A moment had passed and suddenly the station, once dead and silent, was suddenly revived. By what, Kiera couldn't be sure. What she was sure of was there was likely going to be resistance, organic or synthetic.

But first she had to process. The power retuning came with the sound of various blast doors closing. A security measure. The team was now split, with Kiera finding herself with the one they called Tibera. She didn't know much about her, only what she was told in the initial mission briefing prior to them arriving. She did notice the banter earlier, noting that she and their team lead had an established history of sorts. A weakness, or so Kiera believed.

Belief mattered little. She quickly examined the hallway they found themselves in, looking for a way to access the door controls.

"
Nothing," she thought to herself. She recalled the hologram of the station and decided they must be close to the bridge by a few hallways, given the increased security via blast doors. Precisely where was simply not knowable. Yet.

Moving past Tibera, she moved down the hall a few feet towards one of the other doors. Sliding open, she stepped into the room and quickly scanned it. A standard barrack with dozens of beds with footlockers at their feet, as well as a few tables and chairs scattered. In the corner she saw what she was looking for.

Walking over to a vent, she wasted no energy throwing several violent kicks at it, twisting it inwards. Once fully exposed she stepped back and nodded for her companion.

"Hologram showed vents offer us a direct route," she stated emotionlessly. She then nodded towards it for them to go.

She wasn't sure, but she was hoping it would get them to the bridge first.

Suddenly Tibera and Kiera were separated from the other two operatives. That did not bode well for anyone, though it at least came with the lights coming back on. Now she was stuck with a less-than-talkative creepy chick that could mangle powered doors, great. Putting that aside, Tibera looked to Kiera, who had just kicked in the opening to the vent.

"You want my big self to fit in there?? You gotta be joking..."

Tibera wasn't exactly dainty even without all the armor, but with all of it on she was broad as a tank! Not likely for her to be able to fit in there alone, besides the fact Kiera would be there too. Tibera thought for a second, looking along the wall to where the vents led. It would be a lot longer to get to the objective. Curses...

"Blast me to bits, alright... Just give me a sec..."

Tibera worked at removing the layers of powered armor that usually protected her from harm. It left her in a black all-over bodysuit that came up to her chin. It was stab-proof, but wouldn't stand up to blaster fire, just gotta be more careful than usual.

The mercenary followed Kiera into the vents and grumbled, having to carry a small flashlight from her kit in her mouth. Every movement in the vents felt like she was being gently strangled from all angles. The metal would creak and buckle as the two moved through it. There was one thing that was certain, this frakking sucked...

Riven blinked as the power came back online and the blast door in front of her suddenly closed, leaving both herself and Joseph separated from the others. The droid clinging to her back gave a low whirring sound as she glanced around to check if any defenses or the like had been activated too. But despite the split of the team this did at least present an opportunity they hadn't had before.

The short Eldorai looked towards Joseph and then gestured back towards the elevator, perhaps it had power now? She cautiously started walking back towards it and moved a finger to start pushing at the buttons in an attempt to call it. With any luck the power returning meant that they could just take the express route to the control room.

Though she couldn't help but ask her fellow teammate one very pressing question; "... Why did the power come back on...?" she asked with a glance. Was the station in some form of fluctuating malfunction? Was there another presence aboard it trying to bring it back online? These thoughts came to her while she waited, and hoped, for the elevator to respond. They had been cut off from the stairs after all, and she really didn't much like the idea of trying to find another set through the unexplored halls of the station.

After the blast doors shuttled right Torson's team walked past the bulkhead, splitting the group into two and leaving Torson with Riven who he thought was at the rear of the group when they first left the hangar. Nevertheless the power suddenly switching on was indeed concerning especially since the team had done little to trigger any dormant security systems.

Despite this sudden occurrence Torson and Riven pressed on, with the former already certain that they could eventually link up with Kiera and Riven at the bridge, which would be easier now that they could use the elevators. Before long, Riven found herself at the elevators and began pushing some buttons in an attempt to call it. As they both waited for the elevator, Riven spoke once more this time asking the golden question.

"... Why did the power come back on...?"

"No idea." Torson simply responded to Riven's question while raising his weapon and keeping an eye on the hallway for any signs of movement. "Regardless we need to stay alert. We don't know what kind of nasty surprises awaits us here." he responded. Then a single ringing sound could be heard as an elevator arrived on their level it's doors opening to allow Torson and Riven to step inside. With a single press of a button, the elevator's doors would soon close behind the pair with the elevator itself moving upwards heading towards their intended destination : The floor level containing the bridge.

Tibera continued moving through the vents, grumbling to herself before busting out towards the end of the ventilation shaft. She was definitely closer to the main power core. Only thing it cost her was her armor and rifle. Now was one of those times that she regretted quitting smoking. Still, the annoying part was over, or so she hoped.

The bridge of the station would be just down the halls here unless she missed her guess. Something still felt just a tad off about this, she expected there to be something here that would be shooting at her. A distinct lack of such things made it all feel so creepy. This place was as quiet as a tomb, but more than that, it was bloody empty.

With a slight shiver, the mercenary looked around the hall she'd been spat out in. One room stood out right next to her. It was a manufacturing room, one lit well enough to be noteworthy, and with a lot of equipment still running as if people had been using it.

A few mechanical arms were working, whirring and buzzing as they moved along a conveyer line. There were also 3D printing suits beeping as they went through their automated checks. A whistle came from Tibera as she watched these machines do their well-practiced dance as if their masters were in the next room.

"Looks like something has been turning on the manufacturing section. Now is that automated or...?" Tibera stopped herself, it was about them that she saw a keycard on the nearby desk. Better to keep this thing in case she needed it! She slipped it into a pouch she had on her waist, those were surprisingly numerous on her bodysuit, thanks to a small belt she wore.
