- Super Gun: The Silencer-type is essentially a super-heavy hybrid between a hypervelocity gun and an ion cannon. Every shot fires a burst of ionized, energy-sheathed slugs at near-light speed, giving the weapon tremendous range and shattering firepower. A direct hit can bypass most deflector shields, overload molecular shields, rip through heavy armor, and disable starships for several minutes at a time unless they have advanced EMP/Ion defenses.
- Hull-width: Due to the design requirements necessary to achieve the speed, range, and firepower, the Silencer-class must be fixed and run stern to bow. As a result, all firing solutions require the warship itself to move and maintain line-of-sight on targets.
- Power Hungry: Each shot draws tremendous power from the main generator of any ship it is fitted to, limiting most vessels to just one or two, at the sacrifice of other gun emplacements. Effectively forcing starship designers to choose between batteries and artillery - not both.
- Cooldown: Between every round of fire, the Silencer-type cannons must reload and recharge over the course of several minutes.
- Large Targets: Due to the size of the weapon and its intended range of firing, the Silencer-class cannot practically hit anything smaller or faster than a heavy frigate.
The Silencer-type Artillery Cannon is the product of KDY’s skunkworks under Arage Bao. The Sith Covenant acquired the plans following their occupation of Humbarine, and restarted development of the project. The result was a fixed super gun designed to the length of a capital ship, capable of busting heavy capital ships, battle stations, and ground-based fortresses.
From a technical perspective, the Silencer-type falls into the hypervelocity gun family of weapons, firing a burst of magnetically accelerated slugs at an intended space- or ground-based target. However, where it differs is through the addition of enlarged actuators that fire simultaneously, wrapping each slug in an ionic energy sheath. The outcome is a weapon that can foil all but the most novel defenses, crippling or outright destroying its target in one or two bursts. A single burst can travel 300,000km in just over one second, limiting its range to practical considerations only, such as the size of its target and rate of travel compared to the accuracy of the targeting computers.
Naturally, like most artillery cannons in its class, the Silencer-type has significant power demands and a low rate of fire, and realistically cannot be deployed in anything except a fixed configuration. Any warship it is installed on will have to sacrifice and account for these requirements, limiting its use to siege and anti-capital artillery roles only.
