DESCRIPTION

The Sickle is the next ship out of the FLaT PACK Programme. It is designed to augment to Scythe, Turtle and Sev'rance class in providing well rounded battlegroups formed of relatively specialised ships. The Sickle has a similar aesthetic to the Contention and Scythe class vessels. The FLexible And Tactical PACKaged unit programme was designed to replace a number of individual flexible, general ships with a set of more focussed ships that work in pre-defined tactical units. The rationale is that tactical units can easily be rearranged to meet emerging needs and to cope with different situations. Refitting general purpose ships frequently to meet the rapidly changing nature of warfare wholesale was deemed too expensive. The business case for the programme identified that a whole raft of new designs could be achieved whilst still achieving value for money in the long term. The ships from this programme can still be refitted, as the lifespan of any hull is expected to be greater than any individual system.

Manoeuvrable and well armed, groups of Sickle class frigates can hold their own against Cruisers and will see off many similar sized and smaller ships. Like many recent CIS vessels, the Sickle uses long range ion weaponry to attempt to disrupt the operation of key larger vessels on approach. As is the norm for CIS ships, the Sickle-class uses more durable alloys in construction. However, to keep this vessel reasonably light and manoeuvrable, the Sickle only uses Turadium in the frame of the vessel, and Quadranium plating over key areas of the hull.

Unlike recent specialised ships, the Sickle is often seen on its own patrolling CIS space.

Alrighty, there's a few things that need to be looked at before I can approve this.
  • Even with the conversion of ten launchers to 20 extra guns you're over the limit by five.
  • We can't allow you to have both advanced and redundant shields, it's simply too powerful, especially without a dev thread.
  • Please change references from a heavy frigate to assault frigate as it might cause some confusion with people thinking there's a second class of frigate (IE: heavy cruisers)
  • Can you beef up your description some? Maybe add some detail about the Flat Pack program, your shields, or what happens when an enemy manages to get in close.
  • I'd also appreciate it if you could tell me what each of the metals included in its construction were used for as Turadium (while good for frames) is generally considered too expensive and heavy for general hull plating.

Hi [member="Domino"], thanks for the reply.

First up, the assault frigate has 45 capital guns, so 65 with warheads when transferred. I can't see which of the above I've miscalculated as it looks like 65?

Would a significant Dev thread allow the extra shielding? I'm willing to work on something for a very heavy frigate of the line.

I'll add some more details later today when at the laptop :)

Yeah, I'm just going to say I don't know why I thought that, seems pretty obvious this morning.

A dev thread would probably allow you to have a second shielding system but please bear in mind that it wont be a second fully powered advanced shield or even regular shield. Back up shields should really be a 'Whoops! Time to go!' deal.

You could use something like that, I'd prefer if you didn't though. There's nothing wrong with vanilla materials and the CIS put quite a bit of effort into producing that. Also I just asked if you could tell me what each of your material was being used for, not that you couldn't use any of them. (Unless you were using the Turadium for armor plating.

I'll be honest I was just carrying on with the same vein for CIS ships more than anything else, so just wanted to keep the method of construction in line with earlier ships. (Pure fluff really)

I'll add some more detail [member="Domino"]
