Siae Andronike
Character
Siae's bracers look pretty standard to the casual observer: Dull, matte-black with minimal decorative styling or ornamentations, the cortosis-impregnated betaplast offered a significant defense against incoming threats, being able to block / disrupt lightsaber blades (though not anywhere near as well as sturdier cortosis-based designs could), and deflect small-arms-scaled blasters and melee weapons effectively. Designed to be rugged and reliable, they lacked the fancier, more-expanded capabilities of more contemporary bracers and vambraces, but could be counted on to operate in a variety of conditions with trusted reliability. Shielded against weather and moisture, against EMP/ion threats, and against kinetic damage, they would take an awful lot of punishment without losing their functionality. Yet, Siae's bracers were nowhere near as advanced or functional as other similar devices used in the galaxy today. Their features were largely standard, their limitations were pretty standard, and their performance was pretty standard. They weren't super-powerful slicing aids or massive capacity portable computers, nor were they overly powerful in terms of that performance – they couldn't penetrate complex systems, overcome serious interference or barriers, nor could they stop much more than a standard blaster rifle bolt. These weren't on par with the sorts of hard-light or energy shields seen in use nowadays, nor did they cover much more than her forearms, unlike those nifty retractable beskar bucklers the Mandos use.
SPECIAL FEATURES
- Integrated Concealed Dart Launcher: A close-range weapon, capable of firing up to three darts with impressive force, delivering a variety of types of damage (depending on the darts used). Only accurate up to 8-10m and unable to penetrate through heavier armors, the weapon still offered a potent means of personal defense or offensive applications. Siae often used darts which contained a powerful paralytic compound, capable of rendering a large adult humanoid or similarly-sized beast unconscious and immobile for several hours with a single strike.
- Integrated Multi-Feature Chrono: Capable of using planetary open-access global positioning systems and public navigation channels to navigate through unfamiliar terrain and locations, the integrated compass was a useful asset when finding one's self on a new world for the first time. Capable of telling time on a vast number of worlds, including discerning time zones, predicting sunrise and sunset, it also boasted an atmospheric sensor, temperature sensor, and gravity sensor, giving its wearer a 'snapshot' of their situations at all times. Further, it boasts a timer, alarm, and more…
- Integrated Bracer Computer: Though limited by contemporary standards, the integrated computer was durable and reliable, well-suited to rugged use and versatile enough for most situations and applications. It features an integrated beckon call system, capable of pairing with vehicles, allowing Siae to summon or control them remotely up to 1500km. Able to read a single datacard and possessing a surprisingly large memory, it could store a wide variety of data, and used advanced data-sifting and information technologies to provide a number of applications on demand quickly and reliably. An integrated encrypted comlink is also found, with a range of up to 1500km.
- Integrated Holoprojector: Copying the mechanism of the centuries-old imagecasters, the pinhole-sized projector could display a 3-dimensional display a few centimeters above the bracer, allowing the wearer to study maps, schematics, or other images in-depth when needed.
- Slicing Enhancement: The infiltrator glove technology offers Siae the ability to slice into most common computers and systems much more easily, with systems bypass programs, decryption software, and other pre-programmed slicing protocols capable of penetrating most low-to-medium-security systems, locks, or devices.
- Protection: Shielded against radiation, including ion and EMP disruption or attacks, and using a cortosis-weave impregnation of the already tough betaplast construction, the bracers could successfully take a great deal of damage against kinetic attacks, even deflecting small arms blaster fire and lightsaber strikes (with the added benefit of likely temporarily 'shorting out' the lightsabers' blades and giving her an opportunity for a counter-attack or to make her escape), the bracers offered Siae a reliable, albeit limited protection in combat. Sleek and unobtrusive, her bracers were well-suited to personal combat, though lacked protection beyond the areas they covered.
- Integrated Tech: Using integrated computer, holoprojector, slicing enhancement, and chrono features offers Siae a variety of advantages, from a 'pair-able' beckon call system, slicing low-to-medium-grade systems and locks, data storage/retrieval, and even an encrypted short-range comlink.
- Dart Launcher: A close-range dart launcher, capable of delivering potent darts, laden with paralytic neurotoxins, striking with force sufficient to penetrate polymer armors (e.g., betaplast, duraplast, etc.), cloth, and tough hide/leather, the bracers provide an excellent offensive capability.
- Protection: Capable of guarding against EMP/Ion and utilizing betaplast - notable for its durability against kinetic damage - impregnated with cortosis-weave, the bracers can protect against small arms blaster fire, lightsabers, and melee weapons.
- Limited Range and Munitions Capacity: The integrated concealed dart launcher was slimline and discreet, but the trade off meant just three (3) small darts could be carried at any time and reloading would take a few moments and couldn't be done rapidly. Further, since it used a mechanical system and compressed air to launch them, meant to make these more reliable and accurate, they were still limited in their range and striking power, effective only to about 8-10m and unable to pierce stronger armor types.
- Limited Chrono Functions: The chrono used in these bracers was able to provide a number of functions, however those functions were not without significant limitations. For example, while able to operate as urban compasses and digital compasses, assisting with navigation through both urban areas and across various worlds' landscapes, they relied on open-access broadcasts and data sources. While these were present on many worlds, this was not in fact universal, and on such worlds where these were not present, this 'urban compass' feature was entirely wasted. Likewise, the digital compass was not able to operate properly where significant atmospheric or magnetic interference was present, simply lacking the strength to overcome such challenges. For this same reason, it wouldn't work through intense shielding, natural or artificial, meaning that if one was trying to navigate through subterranean caves or labyrinthine catacombs, depending how far underground, the nature of cover, etc. this feature too might be unavailable. Similarly, the chrono contained the ability to tell time on more than a thousand world, which is neat, except there's far more than a thousand worlds in the galaxy. Likewise, the limited power suppl meant the integrated sensors only gave detailed data regarding a 10km radius of the user, and less so where interference was present. So, like many things, when it worked it worked well, but when it didn't, it didn't.
- Limited Computer Capacity: Okay, it's a datapad – it's a good datapad – but it's not a great datapad, by anyone's definition. It was simply a standard bracer computer, without much in the way of bells and whistles beyond the standard. Siae did include the AI-aided slicing measures commonly seen in infiltrator gloves, but these bracers simply lacked the power to overcome anything more than most common systems and programming, nor could they penetrate especially complex countermeasures or security systems. The datacard reader only accepted a single standard datacard at a time and wasn't able to accommodate other data storage devices or mediums. The use of a gabonna memory crystal gave it a decent-sized memory, but there was always the risk of the crystal itself being damaged and then there was just no comparison to the vastly faster and larger computers in use commonly around the galaxy these days, so while it was good by Conclave standards it really didn't measure up to contemporary technologies.
- Limited Holoprojection Capabilities: The integrated holoprojector couldn't display a large image, limited to just about 30cm high and about as wide, at maximum scale. So, while it allowed 'better' in depth study of an image, this wasn't always ideal. Further, it was difficult to use in bright environs, as the relatively weak projection quality might appear 'grainy' or 'washed out' because of this, making it less than hoped for in terms of clarity and detail.
