SPECIAL FEATURES

  • [~] Induces fear instead of physical damage, so it’s more difficult to defend yourself against it, but a particularly strong mind could resist its capabilities.

  • [~] The blast is imperceptible for both the wielder as well as the target. So it’s harder to dodge, but also harder to aim.

  • [~] Alchemical treatment makes it far more durable than the usual rifle. This makes it a touch heavier than normal and also comes with a faint Darkside signature.

  • [~] The Velokite integrated into the design isolates the rifle from the Force. This goes two ways: you cannot use the Force to yank it away from the wielder, but the wielder cannot grab for it through the Force if it's dropped or otherwise removed during battle.

  • [~] The Hurlothrumbic Rifle works at its best on humans and near-humans that are able to produce viable offspring with other humans. For the rifle to be effective against any other species it needs to be specifically calibrated, which is not a process you can do during a battle.

DESCRIPTION

The Galaxy is a dangerous place with hostile conflicts running rampant.

From blasters that snare your very soul to guns that snatch away your free will altogether. They all contribute to this hostile environment in one way or another, but something was missing.

Something crucial.

During Cerita’s training with Dissero she came face to face with the very real threat that fear presents. This experience and Dissero’s experiments with the Velokrons made her realize that there was a market out there for weaponizing Force techniques the Force Users take for granted. In the end she declined to go the route of her Master and simply imbue a blaster rifle with a Force-effect. Instead she took inspiration from the Guns of Command and the ancient Hurlothrumbic Generator designed by the Imperials years ago.

The Periculum produces focused energy waves that are invisible to the eye and negatively influence certain areas of a sentient’s mind. It effectively stimulates the brain to simulate the effects of fear in the target.

The inspiration of the Periculum, the Hurlothrumbic Generator, was capable of unleashing planet-wide terror on its highest settings.

In this the rifle is less ambitious: with a maximum range of 250 meters and an optimum range of 50. The law of diminishing returns apply here though, the farther the waves have to travel the less effective they are going to be in effecting a target’s mind.

On average at 50 meter a direct hit from the gun will cause sudden dread, paranoia and a heavy decrease in the target’s capability to reason and stay focused. At 250 meter and one direct hit, this effect is severely decreased and instead simply puts the target on edge. No sentient is the same, of course. Some will be better prepared to deal with the sudden fear and might continue to focus at a loss of battle efficiency, while others might cave at even a glancing blow from a far distance.*

Furthermore the rifle, being a personalized and experimental model, has been alchemized to withstand most types of direct damage. Constant contact with a lit lightsaber and/or Force Light are exceptions to this.

*Note: This means that it’s up to the opposing writer to determine how their characters are influenced by the gun’s capabilities.

OK, so.

It's a cool, obscure canon thing scaled waythefeth down, minimally produced, and given a bunch of limitations, and that's my favorite thing to see. However, we both know this is going to spur a small explosion of hurlothrumbic weaponry, not all of it as balanced as this. So here's what's gotta happen.

Gimme a dev thread. Ten posts will get you the gun, but if you're the kind of person who doesn't like their stuff ripped off easily, I'd recommend going bigger. Set the bar high, basically.

Gimme some metrics for the length and weight. 'Standard' blaster rifles vary widely -- think of a clone trooper rifle vs. a stormtrooper E-11.

You've already got the OOC note I was going to ask for, and I think it's clear enough that the PC target gets to specify the impact.

OK, tag me when you're done.

In the meantime, I think it'd be wise to add a passage on how this affects different species. Humanoid vs. non, mammalian vs. reptilian, etc. That opens up the possibility of tuning this for different kinds of species, which would certainly add to your dev load but could be cool.

Added these two lines, added the dev threads, should be good now!
