Suggestion Should we have “Core Values” for Chaos?

I was working the nightshift for 12 hours per shift when my brain suddenly reactivated for 30 seconds…

Every decent company I’ve ever worked for has had three or four “core values” to help unite their staff towards a common goal. Things like “integrity” “accountability” “teamwork” yadeeyada…

If Chaos had core value/mission slogan (not saying it needs one) what would those values be?

We already have a HR in SWRP Chaos.

It's the High Republic, not Human Resources.

(But anyway, being serious, my advice is that the title and the actual question you are posing are completely different. Should we have "Core Values" for Chaos? vs. If Chaos had core value/mission slogan, what would those values be?)

I don't know. This might be controversial. But I think a core value (that the website should have) is the end of the alienating, the banning of, asking others to not roleplay or interact with other people because they are disliked or they "did the thing" back in 2022 and some people haven't moved on. If someone hasn't been banned from the website then they should be allowed to roleplay in any faction, particularly, when they haven't been told what it exactly is they've done that is preventing someone from being apart of the community. I find this behaviour really weird tbh.

This seems important but I am a little confused. I thought if we were not banned, we ARE allowed in any faction?

This is not mean-spirited. I genuinely thought that was the rule.

Really? I was not aware of this :/ It seems like maybe board staff could help. I didn't know we could ask people not to play in our factions. I guess minor ones maybe but the majors are pretty open I thought.

I was told earlier this year that I could not join a faction. They sent a polite message to me in DMs about it after I expressed interest in joining. They even removed me from their Discord server. People have every right to do this, of course. It's their space. But the least they could do is given a proper explanation as for why.

I feel like "we don't like you" isn't a good enough reason to stop someone from roleplaying in a faction and with their members. If you have a good enough reason then say it and that way both sides can move on. At the end of the day I wouldn't want to write with a group of people if they didn't want me around either so the situation would resolve itself.

The "we don't owe you an explanation" thing is very childish as well.

Any MFO can ban a person from their faction, as per the faction owners right to keep the peace, especially in the event that a member has been a trouble maker in said faction, or in other factions. It's one of the ways factions police themselves and hold people accountable.

Ohh I guess that makes sense. I get people wanting an explanation too though. I've never lead a major faction so honestly I have no idea how it all works.

But as for the topic at hand I don't think we need any type of values or anything because I think we all are different and have different values. Plus I agree with Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell about getting away from corporate crap while we are here.

I'm going to slightly disagree with this, simply because I banned someone when I was THR admin, who was not only spreading negativity about the faction, but also harassing other members in the faction openly, but just not in the faction, itself. This person demanded me to tell them why they were banned, and I could have given them a whole break down of every infraction, but it wasn't worth my time. Said person was banned only a few months later for being completely inappropriate and had several more infractions. Did it seem like an over reaction to a lot of other people? Maybe. Did it keep the peace in my faction? Yes.

Not every case is warranted, but many are.

People deserve a second chance. They should be given the rope around their neck. It's down to them if they pull it wrong or not. Telling someone they can't join, without giving them your reasons, is bullying in my opinion.

I hard disagree, factions should be free to curate their member bases.

If a community finds someone toxic, or their actions the definition of reprehensible, it should be well within their rights to say "hey y'know what? We're just gonna....not....with this person."

And thank God folks have that ability, because otherwise you'd get a lot less people taking the time to click "create faction." Imagine being told you have to let someone who's behavior is sour - but not bannable - in your community? Big yike.

These things are more than fair and I wouldn't bother giving them an explanation neither. I am talking about people being stopped from joining factions for the less serious offence of "being annoying" and other such minor things.

Respectfully, second chances are earned. When behavior is changed, and that change is visible. Not a moment before.

Getting back on track regarding core values. Core values and mission statements work for people and corporations. Not really a community of people who come together to write stories. As others have echoed, I don't want to be reminded of HR slogans while I'm on chaos. I would ask what you would expect to gain by having them?
