PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Mechanical mixture of pieces of a homogeneous exotic alloy
  • Weight: Very heavy
  • Color: Shades of dusty reddish brown, like a uniform desaturated rust (note that this is the alloy's natural colour, not oxidation, as the alloy is extremely stable)
  • Resistances:
    • Energy (and other blaster-type weapons): Average - if you get hit while protected by this, it'll eventually come apart into individual bits under the strain
    • Kinetic: Low - can be shaken apart by impact; makes a decent very-short-term ablative armor against kinetic weapons

DESCRIPTION

"So out on the edge of Wild Space, there's this planet that wrecked itself. Its people mined it right down to the core. I've flown down some of those mineshafts until the temp gets too serious for normal heat shielding. My guess is that's why they developed this stuff, I mean the alloy. All that anyone's found is little bits that won't smelt any which way, so what we did is stick those bits in a hundred-thousand-PSI industrial press, cold. Out comes a roughish sandwich kind of thing that holds together pretty well like it was all one piece.

Shola are one of the only places you can find the ancient Sholan junk you need to make it. Where else? Uh, Ronyards and Lotho Minor and Patch-4 so far. And other garbage worlds, and little bits here and there as curios.

"Best heat and rad shielding I've ever seen. You need to fly too close to a star and can't afford Kerts-Bhrg? Sholan junkmetal's exactly what you're after. Swear to feth, a buddy of mine used it for roof tiles on Vjun, too - the acid rain just slides right off."
