Jonyna hadn't done one on one training with a padawan in quite a while. It was an unfortunate byproduct of her own schedule, and a result of her own stacking of said schedule.

She could only be so many places at once, unfortunately.

But when Val had requested her to teach a padawan of the grandmaster, Jonyna made time.

Just outside of the temple, Jonyna sat in the middle of a patch of trees, waiting for this supposed padawan's arrival. The hum of the air around her, as a small device sat next to her, playing music from days gone by.

Anneliese had only ever glimpsed Jonyna in fleeting, respectful moments as she passed by -- admiring the strength that seemed to so freely exude from the redheaded Cathar. Today, of all days, Anneliese felt a deep excitement and anticipation. The chance was given to meet someone she had quietly admired, yet another figure she could look up to, and this in itself to Annie was more precious than any possession that could be given to her.

As Anneliese stepped through the clearing, the gentle strains of music helped settle her nerves. A playful gust of wind swept through, whipping strands of her fiery hair around her face and lending her an air of spirited determination. Every step was laced with gratitude for the bonds she had been encouraged to forge—bonds that promised growth and wisdom.

Reaching the edge of the grove, she paused to steady herself before approaching Jonyna. With a respectful smile and clear, steady tone, she introduced herself, lowering her head into a respectful bow, "I am Anneliese Kaohal, Padawan to Master Valery. I have come to report for training."

Anneliese blinked once at the comment, a quiet laugh slipping out before she could stop it. It was soft — amused but warm — her hand instinctively brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, that fiery red catching the sun.

"Guess we're easy to spot on the battlefield then," she murmured, lips quirking into a small grin. "Bright hair and a tendency to set things on fire."

She hesitated a beat — not out of nervousness, but surprise. This wasn't what she'd expected. No instructions, no sparring stance, no flare of combat-ready Force techniques. Just… music. Wind. Stillness.

It made her straighten slightly — not out of tension, but re-calibration.

So she sat, crossing her legs beside Jonyna with steady, deliberate ease. Her shoulders rolled once as if letting something unspoken fall away — a warrior settling, not shrinking. Her eyes lifted to the horizon, where the breeze stirred the grass in lazy arcs.

Jonyna was happy to just let them sit for a bit, listening to the sound of her favorite song. It was nice, to just enjoy the music, but she had a deeper meaning to it.

"Do you feel it?" Jonyna asked as she held a hand up, opening one eye. "The vibrations in the air. That's all sound is, ya know. The wind going up and down, making noise. With a little bit of a push," She paused, and suddenly the music stopped. Jonyna picked up the small device that had been playing it, and showed it off. It was still playing, but no noise could be heard. "We can manipulate it. The wind itself."

Anneliese's eyes remained closed for a moment, listening—not just to the absence of music, but to the space it left behind. Her fingers brushed over the earth at her side, grounding herself as she exhaled a slow, steady breath.

"Everything speaks, if you're still enough to listen," she said quietly, her voice carrying the weight of reflection. "The rustle of leaves, the way the air shifts before a storm... even silence has a sound, if you know how to feel it."

She opened her eyes then, gazing at the device in Jonyna's hand with a kind of reverent curiosity.

"You're not just stopping sound… you're guiding it. Like the Force, isn't it? A current, always moving—sometimes loud, sometimes soft—but always present. It's beautiful, what you can do with it."

The music wove itself gently into the air again with a flick of Jonyna's fingers, subtle and seamless — and Anneliese found herself smiling, not just at the display, but at the word kiddo.

It stuck with her, in a good way.

Something about it was comforting. Familiar. Not patronizing, but close — like a gentle hand on her shoulder or a knowing glance shared between those who'd walked similar paths. It made her feel like she belonged in the room, and maybe even in the moment.

Anneliese closed her eyes.

The chatter in her mind settled, and she let herself breathe — deep and slow, sinking into the stillness. She wasn't trying to prove anything, not to Jonyna, and not even to herself. She just… existed, tuning into the current beneath the surface. The Force shimmered there, always present, always waiting.

It pulsed in soft waves around her — and in the middle of it all, the music. Not just the sound, but its rhythm. Its pattern. Its heart.

She didn't reach out so much as she aligned with it, isolating its undertone like a thread through fabric. She followed it, let it fill her lungs, then shifted her hand gently — coaxing the air to respond. No grand gesture, no dramatic flair. Just quiet imitation, a reflection of what Jonyna had created.

But it was hers now. Warmer in tone, drawn from memory. From the hush of wild Kashyyyk nights. From lullabies long gone. From the soft hum of morning sparring rituals and the ache of too many goodbyes.

The music changed — subtly, but noticeably. Not better, just different.

Anneliese opened her eyes slowly, meeting Jonyna's with a quiet, almost shy smile.

Jonyna watched with a soft gaze, remembering her first time doing so. It was messy, but it was always going to be messy. And yet, this padawan seemed to have a knack for it that she hadn't back then. A natural talent that showed in how little she needed to do.

Slowly, the music shifted. And Jonyna smiled.

"You're better than I was at that age."

The trick?

The noise of her voice didn't seem to come from Jonyna's mouth. It was as if it was disconnected from it, coming from another source from behind the padawan.

"Now, would you like to learn to throw your voice?"
