Atmosphere: Very Low
- Hyperdrive Class: None
An advanced speed and maneuverability in a vacuum
Strengths:
- Swift and armed
- Controlled via droid brain
- Can outperform most fighters in a near void condition
- No Hyperdrive
- Becomes vulnerable when in atmospheric conditions
- Cannot use maneuver as well in gravity environments
The Shock fighters are intended to be a compliment to the Awe fighters. The answer to space based weaknesses, these fighters are designed for near perfect suitability in a near void environment. With less wingspan and thinner metal construction the ship is intended to have less mass allowing it to accelerate faster and turn easier.
This lighter construction does create large problems when dealing with frame stresses. The lighter build makes it more vulnerable to attacks, which is why it has a far more robust shield to counter the lack of armor. The ship is also dangerously fragile when put into a full atmosphere, requiring a massive drop in speed in order to avoid the ship simply being ripped apart by friction. This also hampers the fighter’s maneuverability considerably. Strong gravity fields have a similar effect, while the fighters can pick up speed in an environment it cannot turn as quickly without tearing itself apart from the force. Pilots are strongly advised to avoid entering or going below the Mesosphere of a world at all, with recommendations on keeping fighting in the Thermosphere to a minimum, while working in the Exosphere poses little danger on most worlds.
While this limits the ship’s usefulness to only space based warfare, these ships are considered peers to most starfighters. The shields are of a more powerful design, drawing more energy to protect the fragile fighter. The weapons systems are about on par for the classification of the vessel. With twin launchers designed to carry any number of missiles and dual firing laser cannons, this ship is capable of competing with most enemy craft. These features combined with its ability to move seamlessly in a vacuum at high speeds make this craft deadly in space combat.
As with most of Ultimatum’s designs, the ship is capable of being piloted by a person or a droid brain. In most cases an organic pilot is in control of the vessel, however if incapacitated or otherwise rendered unable to continue piloting, the droid brain takes over. While not as effect as a fully trained pilot, the droid brain is capable of most advanced maneuvers and taking advantage of the ship’s unique abilities.
