She's Growing On Me [Leyan]

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
It had been a few months since Jak had trained Leyan last; he felt that today would be a good day to start again. So after his shift had been finished at his boss', he headed back to his home; his personal junkpile of a ship that was in constant repair.

Jak knocked on the door of the ship. "Hey, Leyan? We doing training today, or nah?" When she didn't respond, he unlocked the door and stepped in. "Leyan?"

The interior was fairly homey; a large console was bolted to one wall, a recent addition; a new skylight had been installed for both their comfort; small plants and trees had been brought in for Leyan, and Jak had pretty much made the couch his bed; it was all but buried under vines and leaves.

"Leyan..." he called.

Leyan didn't hear Jak come in. She was engrossed in a holo-book that he'd shown her. It was all about a plant that became enchanted and grew into a man. The man was tired of seeing plants being destroyed and unappreciated by the galaxy and started on a murderous rampage. She stared down at the datapad with wide, horrified eyes. There was a girl tending to her garden, and he was getting closer... And closer....

A high-pitched squeak, accompanied by her entire body launching a couple inches out of the chair and throwing the datapad across the room was the end result of this. Leyan looked up at Jak, frightened for a few seconds.
"O-oh.... It's only you...."

Leyan took a few deep breaths.
"It was a creepy story. The man was an enchanted plant who hated everyone who didn't care about plants, so he started killing everyone, and he was going after this girl who had a garden, and he had this sharp thing, and there was this thing called a wood-chipper nearby, and it was just really scary...."
The last few words came out in a quiet squeak. It probably sounded a bit childish to Jak. But she'd never read something like that before.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak winced. "Oh.... that one... Yeah, I don't like that one either." After a beat, he asked, "So... are we doing training today? Sun's shining, garage is clean for once, I'm done my job for the day... sound like a good idea at all?"

Leyan nodded quickly. Anything to get her mind off of that story.
"I-I think you were saying something about sparring last time?"

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"So long as you've gotten your basic Force maneuvers down, yes," Jak clarified. "Once you know how to push, pull, move around, and levitate, you can start on your sparring."

Leyan knew that this was a test. Jak had started the last few training sessions this way. Instead of trying to catch the wrench with her hands, she used the Force to stop it right in front of her face. She was still getting used to using her abilities on the fly, however, and the wrench fell to the ground a few seconds later. She looked down at it unhappily.
"Well.... It lasted about five seconds longer than before...."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Hey, that's five seconds longer you'll live in combat," Jak teased. "Again. Pick up the wrench without touching it and throw it to me." He took a neutral, relaxed pose, ready for her toss.

Leyan used the skill she'd been working on for about three months to lift the wrench from the ground. She used a small burst of energy to send it sailing in the right direction before releasing her grip on it for Jak to catch.
"I just need to get used to using it suddenly. How do you concentrate when you're in a hurry or in danger?"
[member="Jak Sandrow"]

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak caught it and let it hover for a second before tossing it back to her. "Admittedly, it does get more difficult to concentrate when you're distracted. You just need to distance yourself from the task, and let the Force take over. It takes some getting used to, letting something else take you over, but it will definitely help you in the long run."

Let the Force... Take over? Leyan wasn't sure she liked the sound of that. She caught the wrench again. A little longer still before it fell again. She repeated her actions and tossed it back to Jak.
"But, if I let it in all the way... What if... What if it makes me do things I don't want to do?"
[member="Jak Sandrow"]

Leyan felt the same energy as before as the wrench came back to her. Instead of trying to use it with her whole body, she started concentrating on making it go to her arm. She pictured it being like a pressure of some kind, building in that limb alone. This time, the wrench stopped in mid-air very stably. It didn't falter an inch. She smiled.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"That's how you do it!" Jak smiled. "Way to go!"

As it came back to him, he caught it in his hand and put it down on the bench. "That's enough practice for now, I think... unless you want to continue?"

He was fine, either way; this was actually kind of fun.

Leyan nodded.
"Alright. Then what do we do next?"
She was a bit more eager to try something new now that she'd roughly improved.
