OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: A personal coat/leather armor for Julius Sedaire.

  • Canon Link: N/A

  • Development Thread: If Needed

  • Primary Source: From the entry on Albek in the Star Wars: Force & Destiny: Savage Spirits: A Sourcebook for Seekers Game guide.

    “The spine-backed, reptilian
albeks have spread to numerous worlds across the galaxy in large part due to a single trait of the species - its complete and utter fearlessness. Though averaging less than a meter in length, albeks are stubborn and aggressive. They have been known to take the intrusion of a starship or speedr into their territory as a challenge and often stow away aboard the offending vessel. Once in place, they can be quite difficult to remove as the small creatures have a fierce temper and a unique ability to anticipate blows or grabbing hands with the force. Pinning down albeks that don’t want to be caught is all but impossible, and usually only makes them more determined to stay where they are.”

SPECIAL FEATURES

DETAILED SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Lightsaber Resistance - From the threads of phrik armorweave making up the underlayer and linin, to the alchemised albek hide making up the outside, the entire outfit is able to withstand several strikes before the leather will begin to crack, burn, peel or otherwise fail. The underlayers are woven of a phrik armorweave becoming popular in the Fringe, and are as durable against lightsabers as any other phrik armor within reasonable comparison.

  • Precognitive Buff - Owing to the special way in which several contacts in the Underground helped to treat the hide of a mighty Albek that Julius acquired through unmentioned means. The Albek is a force-sensitive creature that is renowned for being hard to hit and catch, and almost precognitive in it’s abilities to evade attacks or threats. With the Arts of Alchemy, this ability was preserved in the hide, and thus Julius can expect even further warning against attacks and ill-intent centered to his person, reacting a split second quicker to evade said harm.

  • Exemplar Class Personal Energy Shield: A ray/particle personal energy shield for maneuvering defense.

  • Magno-Grip Boots: These enable Julius to grip to metallic surfaces and aid in keeping footing, etc..

Strengths:

  • Danger! Danger!: Helps to further enhance Julius’ precognitive abilities to react even faster to danger & harm

  • War Resistance: The alchemised Albek hide & phrik linings provide a hefty resistance to lightsabers and minor resistance to things like blasters and blades.
Weaknesses:

  • Stifling: This outfit, when worn full and proper, is not terribly good at breathing and circulating, so is best not used for hot environments or anything of the like.

  • Kinetic Impact: Particularly on the limbs, this “armor” is just not terribly protective against blunt force trauma.

DESCRIPTION

Julius has taken to favoring less overt armor after his extended stay in the Kathol Outback and Outer Rim, and indeed his coats have become a signature style to himself. The need, however, was for something a bit more protective as he began to put boozing and womanizing behind him. His failure on Corellia, though most would view it a success, showed him that it was high past time he began to be serious about life.

Where he got the ideas, or who exactly alchemized the thing, is a rather unimportant secret. It is immensely comfortable, saving in extremely hot or humid environments. Being leather with metallic thread linings and underlayers, it is supremely flexible and suited to one with such a reliance on speed and agility as Julius. The design barely hinders his abilities at all, and seem to fit him like a glove.

Overall, it has a much more official and almost militaristic feel to it than his previously favored bantha-hide greatcoat that some say was his brothers from his CorSec days, that the Green Jedi had taken to wearing in remembrance of him when all thought he was dead. But it does follow some stylings of his home planet, resembling vaguely the uniform of a CorSec officer, and blending that Corellian Greatcoat feel many recognize.

Staying mostly in black with muted grey pipings and dull brushed gunmetal, the outfit is almost suspiciously bereft of prior decoration and flash, being humble and utilitarian, dedicated to a singular purpose and excelling at it quite exclusively: Protection with maximum movement allowed. Even the belts are plain durasteel, with spacers leather and nylon making up the pouches and holsters, with the same going for the boots, to which he cunningly added a set of magno-grips to.

Perhaps the crowning piece of this for thematic protection is the Exemplar-Class Personal Energy shield from ArmaTech. Acquired at cost, it was added to the suit so that during any exotic maneuvering and fighting, Julius could afford some protection to himself and focus on the fight at hand, and hopefully not be taken out by surprise or stray bolts. Even the best and fastest of precognitive's can be taken by surprise, after all.

Nice submission, nothing wrong with it, but can you add another weakness to it?

Specifically that ysalamiri fields and similar effects negate the alchemical properties.

Good to go after that.

[member="Tai Fa"] - I understand Chaos Canon has decided on some subs that the Alchemy doesn't work in null feeds. However there are equal examples that do. Many of them I made on my own Alchemist. I'd rather not add that specific weakness as this isnt a terribly protective item to begin with. It's a coat. It's best protection is against lightsabers, but anything with weight will still transfer full kinetic impact. And that kind of damage, next to cutting a limb off, is hugely detrimental to a speedster type character like Julius.

Below are a few links to Chaos Alchemy items that have been approved, by myself or others, that function inside null fields. Some with active and some with passive effects. I am willing to add one or even more weaknesses, no problem. I'd just rather not add that particular one if possible, as null fields of varying types are disproportionately common here, and would make the coat next to useless then.
