Fast: Possessing a high speed, and decent maneuverability these mounts can travel in space and atmosphere quite well. Their Dovin Basal is able to propel them through real space quite well, and is easily suitable for short distances through hyperspace as well.
Pilot and Mount are one: The pilot and the mount have a deep bond. They can fight together, or as separate entities for the same goal. Their loyalty to one another is unshakable, and allows for incredible feats of teamwork. The Mount does not need the pilot to control it. Though it performs far better when it is directly controlled by a skilled rider.
Absorbing: The Dovin Basal allows the Shedim to absorb small amounts of laser fire and missiles at the cost of some speed and maneuverability. For the same price, it also allows the mount to drain deflector shields from small craft, like light freighters, shuttles, and fighters.

Harder to Multitask: The Dovin Basal, the heart of its defenses and propulsion, has trouble multitasking. The faster it travels the less it has to give to defense. The more defense it gives the less it can give to speed and maneuverability.
No Heavy Weapons: While it's a fast, and relatively powerful thing, especially if it makes it to atmosphere, it lacks any weaponry that really allows it to hit against anything above corvette size with any real effectiveness.
Smaller Numbers: They are deployed in squads of eight, making their numbers less than standard squadrons of 12.
Living: They must be given nourishment for them to continue to survive. They cannot rest on a planet for years in the same spot and be alive when you return.

Biology and technology in perfect harmony. The Death Knights of Vendaxa's belief of combining the best of both together is seen no where more clearly in their constant companions, the Shedim. Biot material fused together, a grown brain, and body, every part of them are genetically engineered and appear no where in nature. They are literally grown around the cybernetic aspects of their bodies, nerve endings connected directly to weapon systems, sensors, inertial dampeners, atmospheric shielding and oxygen supplies, shielding, comm units. They are completely fused, and there is no separating the technological from the biological any longer.
They are fast, deadly, versatile, and have an unwavering loyalty to their Knight, who is beside them their entire lives. They use their Dovin Basals to move, defend, and even attack. They are equipped with two light repeating laser cannons, a heavy laser cannon, and an EMP generator. Their powerful claws can rip into cockpits, or grapple onto capital ships.
The Knight's ride atop the Mount, on a "saddle" grown into the Mount's back. From there, they are able to control every action it takes, and to be belted onto the creature. A specialized suit is often required. However, it does produce an inertial dampener and an atmospheric shield around this saddle, and has an oxygen supply. So even if the Knight, for whatever reason, was not wearing their armor, they would be able to survive on the back of their partner.
They are equals to their Knight partners in every way. They live and die together. When one is rewarded, so is the other. They are unit, always together, fighting as one, and linked intrinsically. Partners to the end. Even if the Knight has fallen, the Mount will attempt to complete the mission to the best of their abilities, and will only return home when they have completed the mission and have their Knight's body in claw.
Together Knight and Mount stand ready and able to take on all who oppose them, and to bring about the galaxy they envision, with the only true Lord of the galaxy standing at the top.
Hail to the Vicelord.
