OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
A Bloodlyre while inert.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
A Bloodlyre taking its primary combat form.
SPECIAL FEATURES
First invented hundreds of thousands of years ago, before the Sharu civilization went undercover as the Toka, the Bloodlyre is a multi-configuration/shapeshifting melee weapon.
The Sharuka, a successor civilization, are capable of manufacturing them, but Sharukan culture reserves Bloodlyres for elite operatives and prominent persons. Ancient authentic Bloodlyres are near-sacred status symbols denoting strong connection with the prehistoric Sharu.
Several of the Forerunner stasis cocoons contained fully functional, original Bloodlyres. Elite Forerunner operatives sometimes own or borrow Bloodlyres regardless of their own species. The Gree, for one, are known to get amazing results out of the weapons' transformation potential.

A Bloodlyre taking its primary combat form.
SPECIAL FEATURES
- Mechanical/dimensional shapeshifting
- Self-repair
- Easily concealable in its inert form, e.g. as a large bracelet or other personal ornament.
- Can take its primary form (a sword of sorts) quickly and easily.
- Can be willed into other forms (basic shield, gauntlet, knife, tool) depending on practice. (Or on species: Gree, for example, turn out to be unusually excellent at finding stable new shapes for their Bloodlyres.)
- Can self-repair by returning to its inert state (typically a large bracelet/cuff) for minutes or hours.
- Low-profile, exotic technology: very easy to get past any and all weapon scanners unless it is currently taking the shape of, for example, a sword.
- Better at creating piercing points (rapiers, stilettos, etc.) than especially keen edges. Cutting power and edge durability comparable to stainless steel.
- Will bend like stainless steel upon impact, though obviously it can straighten itself out.
- Shape change takes a handful of seconds; it is not instantaneous.
- Absolutely incomprehensible to modern non-Sharu/Sharuka technicians.
