  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Imperial Commonwealth of Dosuun
  • Affiliation: Imperial Commonwealth of Dosuun
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: ICNEC-DRS-M1 “Shardana”
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Durasteel, shield emitter arrays, energy relay conduits, superconductive power routing systems, advanced sensor and targeting processors, radiation-shielded control assemblies
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Spinal-column-mounted distributed shield relay system
  • Extends partial shield coverage to nearby allied vessels
  • Redistributes existing defensive load rather than generating independent shielding
  • Directional reinforcement capability along designated engagement vectors
  • Formation-linked defensive synchronization through FleetNet integration
  • Dynamic strain balancing between shield emitters and relay nodes
  • Compatible with standard Commonwealth naval shield architectures
STRENGTHS
  • Formation Defense: Enhances survivability of nearby allied ships operating within the relay envelope
  • Shield Redistribution: Reinforces weakened defensive sectors by dynamically redirecting shield capacity
  • Fleet Coordination: Functions effectively alongside FleetNet-enabled formations and coordinated tactical doctrines
  • Anchor Doctrine Synergy: Particularly effective aboard defensive or line-holding warships intended to stabilize fleet formations
WEAKNESSES
  • Host Vessel Strain: Increased defensive output places substantial thermal and power strain on the relay vessel
  • Range Falloff: Shield reinforcement effectiveness decreases significantly with distance from the host ship
  • Formation Dependence: Requires disciplined positioning and coordinated fleet movement for optimal effectiveness
  • Overload Risk: Sustained heavy incoming fire may degrade relay efficiency or temporarily disable the system to prevent catastrophic failure
  • No Independent Shield Creation: Cannot generate standalone shielding for allied vessels and relies entirely on redistributing existing defensive capacity

DESCRIPTION
The Shardana Defensive Shield Relay is a fleet-oriented defensive system developed by the Imperial Commonwealth Naval Engineering Corps to support coordinated naval formations operating under line and anchor doctrines. Rather than functioning as a traditional shield generator, the Shardana system acts as a distributed relay architecture, extending and redistributing portions of a host vessel’s defensive capacity across nearby allied ships within a controlled operational envelope.

Mounted primarily along reinforced spinal structures within Commonwealth capital ships, the relay system utilizes synchronized shield emitters, advanced power routing assemblies, and FleetNet-linked targeting processors to coordinate defensive coverage in real time. The system is designed to reinforce vulnerable sectors within a formation, stabilizing battle lines and reducing the likelihood of smaller support vessels being rapidly overwhelmed during prolonged engagements.

Unlike independent shield projection systems, the Shardana does not create new shielding. Instead, it reallocates existing defensive output through a controlled relay process, allowing nearby ships to benefit from partial reinforcement while remaining dependent upon their own shield systems. This distinction significantly limits the system’s effectiveness outside disciplined formations and prevents it from functioning as a replacement for conventional defensive infrastructure.

The system performs best when integrated into structured fleet formations where escort vessels, reconnaissance ships, and tactical support craft operate in close coordination with larger defensive anchors. In such formations, the Shardana allows support ships to conduct reconnaissance, electronic warfare, targeting coordination, and strike operations beneath a reinforced defensive umbrella.

However, this capability comes at considerable cost to the host vessel. Maintaining the relay network increases both thermal load and power distribution strain, particularly during periods of sustained incoming fire. Under extreme conditions, the system may reduce output or temporarily disengage portions of the network to prevent cascading failures across the host ship’s shield infrastructure.

The Shardana Defensive Shield Relay is therefore best understood not as an independent shield system, but as a force-multiplying defensive architecture designed to reward disciplined fleet coordination, positional awareness, and sustained line engagement doctrine.
