OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a world interesting for Chaos writers, and a haven for pirates.
  • Image Credit: I made the map myself, with this online tool.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Planet Name: Sharatan V
  • Demonym: Sharatanian
  • Region: Unknown Regions
  • System Name: Sharatan
  • System Features: There are four other planets in the Sharatan system, each desolate and uninhabitable, but teeming with minerals and resources ripe for the taking. Currently, they are occupied and mined by the pirates based on Sharatan V. Sharatan V has three small moons, each the site of bases used for refueling and defense by the pirates.
  • Coordinates: Z-11
  • Major Imports: Starships, Food, Luxury Items.
  • Major Exports: Bronzium, Tolium Gas, Starship Fuel
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
  • Gravity: Standard
  • Climate: Most of Sharatan V is a desolate wasteland with no value on the surface except sand and dirt. It's hot, very, very hot.
  • Primary Terrain: Wasteland, Desert, Mountains, Forest.

  • Major Locations:

  • The Lowlands: The Lowlands is the largest region on Sharatan V, and makes up the southern half of the northernmost continent, Eleron. It is made of endless desert waste, sand dunes upon sand dunes. The local pirates seldom go there, for fear of a roving tribe of marauders that takes residence there, and is hostile to any not of their sacred brotherhood. If a pirate disappoints their crew enough, they are marooned in the middle of the Lowlands, and left to die of thirst or marauders.

  • Riverside: Riverside is the closest thing Sharatan V has to a city, and the only place that off-worlders are guaranteed to be safe. It features a spaceport, a large water treatment plant and dispensers, and a large market-place where off-worlders can purchase goods the pirates have 'acquired'.

  • The Bulge: The Bulge is the only settled part of Sharatan V that has soil suitable for agriculture. Here, the pirates enslave those captured in raids and put them to work growing food to sustain their lives on this world. They grow vegetables, grains, fruits, and even raise livestock, all under the watchful eyes of their pirate overlord. If a slave displeases their pirate masters, they are either shot on the spot or marooned in the Lowlands, just as good as a death sentence.

  • The Spine Mountains: This humongous mountain chain is where the majority of the pirates that live on the surface of Sharatan V make their home, as well as where the world's resources can be found. Hangars, mines, and cantinas are common sights on the top of the mountains, as well as the sounds of blaster fire, whether it be target practice or a small turf-war.

  • The Big Forest: Mostly unexplored, the Big Forest is the only place one can find trees on the planet. Densely packed with trees and dangerous predators, any who try and go in usually end up dead. Very dead. The local pirates refuse to enter, believing it to be cursed, and only maintain a small outpost on the entire continent it sits on, called 'Nowhere'.

POPULATION
  • Native Species: N/A
  • Immigrated Species: Human, Twi'lek, Various Others
  • Population: Sparsely Populated
  • Demographics: The vast majority of Sharatanians are human, but as with any assortment of galactic scum, non-humans are a-plenty. The second largest population group are Twi'leks, most of whom are the pirate's captured slaves.
  • Primary Languages: Galactic Standard Basic, Huttese
  • Culture:
  • Daily Life: The life of a Sharatanian is filled with labor, whether they be pirate or slave. Pirates maintain their ships, create new Uglies, and leave to raid and pillage nearby travelers. Slaves farm, mine, and do other menial tasks the pirates see as below them. As with any world so heavily populated by criminals and outlaws, there is plenty of fighting, and bodies are not an uncommon sight.
  • Religion: Sharatan is a hodge-podge of religions from all over the galaxy, reminiscent of its hodge-podge population. There is no mandated religion, and most Sharatanians don't care what you believe, as long as you don't stick it in their face.
  • Sports: The most recognized sport on Sharatan V is dagger-finger. One takes a knife, sets their hand on a flat surface with their fingers spread, and attempts to stab between their fingers as quickly as possible without stabbing their actual hand. Winning this game is a sign of strength, and there is many a pirate crew that settles all disputes with it.
  • Recreational Activities: They're pirates. They watch slave dancers, play dagger-finger, and pick fights with each other for fun. Slaves are not allowed to have fun.
  • Liberty: There is a uniting principle among the residents of Sharatan V, almost the only thing that keeps them together as a whole: liberty. On this world, they can do whatever they please, and they only get what they earn. There is no privilege, no birth-right. These pirates will defend their freedom with their lives.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
  • Government: The Sharatan V government can be described as a confederacy. The various pirate captains represent member-states, and only come together in times of war, or when the entire planet is threatened. When a situation like this arises, the captains come together and elect a High Captain to lead them.
  • Affiliation: The Pirate Confederacy of Sharatan V
  • Wealth: High. Between Sharatan's natural resources and raids for goods and cargo, the pirate captains are very rich. Of course, a blockade would absolutely destroy their wealth, as they would lose access to their income, and need to hire smugglers to get their product out.
  • Stability: The pirate captains only care about their own territory. Sharatan V is essentially fiefdoms divided between warlords, constantly trying to screw each other over through scheming or outright force. Anyone is welcome to trade at Riverside, but anywhere else is dangerous territory. The only time the captains stop trying to take each other over is when the entire planet is threatened. Stability is rather low.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Freedom is one of the things all the captains agree on. Every sentient is free to do whatever they wish at any time. It's just that others are free to do things to you because you did those things. Force and strength are respected on Sharatan. You want something, you gotta take it, because no one gets anything they didn't earn.

MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY

  • Military: The main defense of Sharatan is the pirate's fleet, mostly made up of Uglies; hodge-podge ships made out of the remains of destroyed ships. Fighters, freighters, destroyers, they're all garbage on the verge of falling apart. What makes them a threat is the skill of the ones piloting them. Sharatan V has some of the most skilled pirates in the galaxy, and every one of them is determined to defend their freedom to their last breath. If someone tries to invade this place, they can expect to pay for every inch of the world with blood.
  • Technology: Spacefaring. They're no more advanced than any other civilization, if not slightly below because of their reliance on Uglies.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Sharatan V was first discovered in 15 BBY by pirates fleeing the might of the Galactic Empire. Forced to land to hide from a Star Destroyer, they happened upon the natural resources to be found in the mountains of the main landmass. Thinking they had found the jackpot of hide-outs, they decided to stay right where they were. These first pirates laid low for years, slowly recruiting crew and stealing the bodies of destroyed ships to create Uglies, biding their time. When they thought their forces were good enough, they began raiding nearby travelers, colonies, and outposts. They captured goods, cargo, weapons, ships and slaves.

Knowing they would need to do work to make Sharatan V a permanent solution. They set their slaves to work, building farms, mines, and hideouts in the mountains. By the time of the Battle of Yavin, they had a thriving pirate settlement, attracting more and more scum. By the time the Empire fell at the Battle of Endor, they had so many pirates, they had too much in-fighting. That was when the Confederacy was officially established, and the system of the High-Captain. Due to their rather remote location, there has only been need of two High-Captains.

The first was when an Imperial Remnant fleet stumbled across a Sharatan raiding party, and sent one Destroyer after them, and the Destroyer found their sacred oasis. The first High-Captain was elected, and Sharatan went to war. Their Ugly fleet saw the most action it had ever witnessed at this battle, and over the next few days, the blasters fired non-stop. Scores of pirates died to destroy the Imperial ship, and it took decades for the pirates to recover.

This incident taught the pirates they needed to be more careful. No crew can fly directly back to Sharatan. They must visit at least two systems before coming home, to avoid being tracked. For centuries after that, the pirates of Sharatan were the bane on honest folk in that region of space. They raided, hid, and traded in the black market, growing their fortunes.

The second time the High-Captain was needed, it was another fleet of pirates. They wanted a cut of Sharatan, but wanted it all to themselves. Ugly fleet versus Ugly fleet, this battle raged for weeks, in space and on land. A crew of the enemy crashed in the Lowlands, and became a roving tribe that haunts the region to this day.

Then the Four Hundred Year Darkness came, and Sharatan thrived. With the collapse of most known governments, it was free-reign on the galaxy. Sharatanian pirates reaved and raided like never before, collecting a vast wealth of goods and slaves to work their fields and mines. It was a Golden Age of Piracy.

But that was then. With order somewhat restored to the galaxy and the rise of new factions, Sharatan has laid low. But the crews are getting restless, and the pirates dream of the past, when their ships ruled their space. . .
