- Allows access to the ShadowNet over Holonet systems, without detection by the authorities
- Keyed to the individual, with their biometric data being digitized and anonymized, understandable only to the ShadowNet
- Has a self-destruction feature which safely fries the module's electronics when desired.
- Any law enforcement who finds this on your character will assume that you are a criminal.
The ShadowNet Encryption Module is a device about four inches long and two inches across that can be connected to any HoloNet communications port to encrypt and decrypt signals. It allows a user to clandestinely connect to the ShadowNet, a Dark Website within the HoloNet associated with the ShadowNet faction. The device uses encoding that attaches its transmissions to the underlying code upon which advertising is built, allowing it to disseminate itself to all corners of the galactic Holo Network. The built-in biometric scanner digitizes and anonymizes biometric data (typically a retina scan or finger press, depending on species) creating a Seed Number that can be recognized by the ShadowNet as being associated with a Handle, but which is not sensible to anyone else. This ensures that only authorized parties can access the ShadowNet, and their access can be canceled by the ShadowNet at any time.
The device stores no data beyond its encryption/decryption algorithms, but an additional security feature of a self-destruct allows it to fry its own electronics. This can be actuated by its user or actuated based on a clandestine signal transmitted from the ShadowNet to the device when it is connected.
It should be noted that while Microthrust builds the base module, it is configured by ShadowNet operatives from a generically available piece of technology to become a ShadowNet exclusive device.
