SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Assassin blaster. Inspired by the DC-19 Stealth Carbine and the Nightstinger Sporting Blaster Rifle, the bolts fired by this weapon are invisible to naked sight. Use of Tibanna means that the bolts are still visible to infrared, but the heat trail dissipates in less than a second. Like with the DC-19, the weapon is near-silent. Like with the original Nightstinger, it is possible to employ a redirection crystal to mimic a normal blaster being shot from a direction different than the original trajectory.
  • Furthermore, the weapon itself is designed to be difficult to detect. Using polycarbonate and nightshadow coating, it can evade standard security scans.
  • Modular design. Can switch between pistol, carbine and sniper rifle mode, similar to the ancient A280 CFE.
  • Impressive firepower and range for all three configurations.
WEAKNESSES
  • Its construction does not make it totally invisible to scans, just difficult to detect. A standard security scan will not pick it up, but sophisticated scans will pick it up or at least notice oddities.
  • While it does not need to be cooled down after every shot, several shots in quick succession will cause the weapon to heat up and make it easier to detect. It will also have to cool down to prevent the weapon's blaster dampeners from overheating.
  • As with the DC-19 and the Nightstinger, its ammunition capacity is low.
  • The gun is not heavy, but its versatility makes it cumbersome. It is a bit of a chore to carry all the add on parts around in the field to change its configuration and thus not always a feasible option. Configuring the weapon is straightforward, but not instantaneous and takes some time. It is impractical to do so while being shot at.
DESCRIPTION

The RI Modular Blaster Mk1 'Shadow Gun' has been designed as an all-purpose blasters for assassins, black ops operatives and the like. It takes inspiration from the A280 CFE, the Nightstinger Sporting Blaster Rifle and the DC-19 Stealth Carbine. Like the CFE, it has a modular design, enabling the user to quickly convert the weapon into a sidearm, a service weapon or a sniper rifle. The reassembly process is straightfoward and intuitive, though it would still be impractical to reconfigure the weapon in the middle of a fire fight. The weapon is easily disassembled and reassembled, giving the user flexibility. Moreover, it utilises Auto-Rechargers and Self-replenishing canisters.

Similar to the Nightstinger and the Stealth Carbine, it fires invisible bolts and has no muzzle flash. As it uses TibannaX, the bolts themselves are still visible on infrared, but the heat trail dissipates in less than a second. Furthermore, it is quite possible to get lost if other people are also firing their guns in the moment the agent takes a shot. Thus having a back-up who uses a conventional blaster on the spot can help confuse foes, and cause them to focus on the attack they can actually see. A redirection crystal can be utilised in order to misdirect and confuse foes. However, the user must keep a cool-down period in mind when firing in order to avoid overheating the weapon. A sound suppressor unit makes each shot near-silent. The scope is non-reflective.

The weapon has been designed for precision, with a focus on use by spies, assassins, black ops agents and so on. The weapon has not been specifically designed to counter Force-Users, but its lethality and stealth can make it potent against them, too. Of course, Jedi, Sith and other space mages have precognitive abilities to anticipate attacks. However, Force-Users, especially less experienced ones, may still rely on visual factors to determine where a shot is coming from. This can be helpful for a shooter, since the shot and the location of the shooter are almost undetectable. Even in the pistol configuration, the weapon is strong against armour and personal shields, and in the sniper rifle mode it is a very good weapon to eliminate high-value targets from afar. Furthermore, carbine and sniper configuration allow the user to add under-barrel attachments. These must obviously be removed when the user wants to change the weapon's configuration.

The modular blaster is made out of polycarbonate and coated in Nightshadow. The design is quite versatile, allowing the weapon to be broken down into its individual components for ease of transport and then to be reassembled. Needless to say this is useful for concealment. The use of TibannaX helps, too. This means the weapon can evade standard scans, though more sophisticated ones stand a greater chance of detecting it. Smuggling the weapon past spaceport or town hall security is one thing, trying to walk through the front door of a maximum-security facility another. Revenant Industries does not recommend the latter.
