OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: Factorizing the logical evolution in blaster-technology

  • Development Thread: [x] (22): Acquisition of the secret Styx R&D facility, access to new Sith developments. [x] (10): Purchase of ICE, giving access to exotic tech and research. [x] (20): Assault and reclaiming of Fort Tal'verda, the premier research and development facilities of the CIS. It was given to Ty'rel Holdings as a reward for their help. (52 posts)
PRODUCTION INFORMATION

  • Designer: Ty’rel Holdings

  • Manufacturer: Saiba Group | Ty’rel Holdings

  • Model: SG-WD-02 ‘The Annihilator’

  • Affiliation: Closed Market | Customers

  • Modularity: No

  • Production: Mass

  • Material: Dallorian Alloy, Plasteel, other blaster components

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Classification: Plasma Blaster

  • Size: Handheld

  • Length: 0.6m

  • Weight: 2.0kg

  • Ammunition Type: Diatium Power Cell

  • Ammunition Capacity: Theoretically infinite, practically about 50

  • Effective Range: Personal, CQC

  • Rate of Fire: semi-automatic

Special Features

  • High damage output, but limited range which makes it only suited for close quarter combat.

  • High risk/profit, damage to the blaster can make it go critical, which is caused by the unstable nature of the power source.

  • Continuous fire is not possible, so it will take time to burn through the more reinforced and dense subjects.

  • Cannot penetrate beskar, phrik et cetera. Would need far more power input to accomplish that.

  • Depending on the intensity, Ion/EMP interference will cause issues for the gun. This can range from temporary malfunction to a powersurge that could overload the gun.

DESCRIPTION

“A blaster? So… uncivilized.”
- a dead person

The lightsaber is a weapon of unnatural grace and supremacy. Together with the Force it has kept the Jedi and the Sith always one step ahead of the common masses, the ones that were not as lucky to be born sensitive to the mystic energy that exists around us.

Only the numerous nature of the unlucky prevented outright domination, but these days it seems as if every half-wit no-gooder is able to swing a sword as some kind of legendary warrior, it seems as if even the most morally-bankrupt and brainless can master the techniques of ancient history, basically becoming a God of untold might.

In this ludacris environment the Annihilator is an equalizer, one which comes with its own pros and cons of course. But that is always the case with experimental and cutting edge technology.

This blaster utilizes three concepts to gain its functionality. The Diatium PC, magnetic insulation akin to similar concepts found with the lightsaber and regular blasters and of course, plasma.

Magnetic insulation means that the bolts of plasma will be kept together when fired instead of immediately disintegrating in the air, but this also means that the same principles work as with a regular saber’s magnetic insulation. A wary Jedi or Sith can bounce the bolts right back at their attackers and turn the tables around.

The limited range is also a factor, for some reason the magnetic insulation is only functional to a certain degree, after about eighty to ninety meters the insulation dissipates and with it the payload it was carrying. Theories range from general inaptitude, limits to the technology which could be resolved with more research or even the ionization of particles.

Furthermore, while in general a ‘gun that shoots lightsabers’ sounds pretty, an important thing cannot be forgotten. Most of the strength that hails from the legendary lightsabers stems from its cutting power, but few if any people realize that the more dense items might be susceptible to the lightsaber, but only after being subjected to its cut for a decent amount of time. The Annihilator is not capable of subjecting a target with continuous strain in that capacity, which means that to blast through a reinforced bulkhead would generally take more time than a lightsaber would.

In short, it’s faster and more powerful than a regular blaster, but it has its own weaknesses and limitations which need to be resolved before it can truly be considered as a worthy successor of the lightsaber.

Alright, let's get this show on the road. :)

Would this blaster, like any other blaster, malfunction when hit by an EMP or Ion blast?
And last but not least, due to the power of this weapon, I'm going to have to ask you to do a dev thread of at least 35 quality posts.

Tag me with answers and edits. :)

The dev is there, and the power of the weapon is heavily balanced out by its many downsides.

I will approve this, albeit with the caveat (and a big one) that abusing this will end in tears and blood.
