Saab f'Czeht'sk
Character
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Saab found the regular DE-10 whilst stranded on Saleucami; using spare time between working on his ship, he converted the pistol into a Verpine shatter gun of his own imagining. Based on a standard Verpine design, he saw the heavier weight of the DE-10 frame as an advantage, allowing for him to install more powerful electromagnets. The combination yielded a heavier gun but with very similar recoil found in more conventional shatter guns.
Due to Saab not having access to state-of-the-art machining facilities…the gun is far less accurate compared to regular Verpine guns, though it maintains a rugged reliability, and can take more bumps than a standard Verpine shatter gun without it messing up the internals. The cylindrical power cell was refitted to hold the Verpine rounds, which acted as a revolver; the gun was reloaded via a break action in which the user could insert more shatter gun ammunition. The rounds for the gun had to be hand-crafted individually by Saab, making each and every projectile that much more valuable; made from any materials he could find, his current ammunition was made from smelting duraplast that he 'borrowed' from some of the abandoned armour sets laying around. The chamber was cycled by thumbing a small lever on the side of the frame.
During his testing of the new design, Saab found while the projectile stayed lethal for further than a blaster, it was only accurate up to 10m. Anything past that the Verpine rounds tended to violently tumble; flying up, veering off either side or crashing to the ground within a few more feet. Based on sheets of metal he managed to hit from longer distances…Saab concluded that at longer ranges the Verpine projectiles retained their momentum. Although they may not have been able to penetrate armour at long range the impact alone, with the ‘tumblers’ as he called them, would be enough to cause severe physical trauma…if it managed to make contact.

Strengths:
- Longer range than a standard blaster (maintained killing velocity past 30m and up to 45m)
- Substantial armour penetration at closer ranges (under 10m the projectile could easily pass through an armour of plastoid…under 5m it would almost retain enough momentum to do twice that)
- Little to no recoil
- Ruggedly reliable
- Near-silent with no visible muzzle flash
- Heavy in hand
- Longer range is hampered by it’s lower accuracy
- Hard to find ammunition, the ammunition is also heavy in quantities
- Magazine size was small and loading each round individually took a substantially longer time than reloading a blaster.
- Low rate of fire (even compared to a standard Verpine shatter gun)
