Private Set Me On Fire!

⚜Tags: Varin Mortifer Varin Mortifer

⚜ The sounds of a warrior practicing a rigid routine could be heard echoing within one of the training halls of Coruscant. I was perfecting my craft, creating a myriad of ways to blend my cosmic flames and dueling techniques together. With each swing of my lightsaber, a blazingly hot trail of violet-red flames follows it. I would perform a series of attacks, sending out waves of flame in various forms as I trained, sweat dripping off me into smoldering embers upon hitting the floor.

My saber technique was fast, precise, and exact, and as I flourished it in my hand, imagining myself surrounded by enemies, I switched to Makashi, one of the saber forms I had honed to mastery. The movements of this form in my hands almost mimicked those of my former master. Graceful and fluid, not missing a beat as its fiery aura sent waves of heat throughout the training hall. To those who may have witnessed it, it looked as if I was dancing as each strike, each technique I blended with cosmic flame magic, was a beautiful sight.

By the time I had finished my final flourish, the entirety of the training hall had become consumed in fire, burning with a vibrant violet-red hue, the temperature of the room considerably high enough to see heat haze. With panted breath, I began to extinguish them by my will alone as I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself. I was still getting acclimated to the Covenant and their ways after being exiled from proper sith for a few years.

Varin had made his way to the training room after spending some time recovering, still walking with a slight limp though he no longer needed the scabbard to his Black Blade to lean on and assist his walking; everything was still stiff however. Opting to take part in some training fit-ins to hopefully loosen the joints and muscles, he felt the heat within the training room and walked in to see flame that had partially enveloped the room. The cause of the flame, now beginning to douse the flame.

His gaze fell upon the Sith that was training as he silently walked in through the flame, almost as if they parted for him like a curtain.

“Impressive.”

He stopped just on the other side of the flames, a small distance from the Sith.

“However some are more inclined to train when the room is not set ablaze.”

Another step forward as his eye seemed to measure the force signature of this new Sith he had never met.

The hilt of his saber was clasped to his belt, the dark colors of his training outfit almost blended him in with the smoke trail that seemed to trail from his back, as if a furnace itself resided within him.

“I believe we have not met.”

⚜ Yggdrakses was the first one to sense him, then me. He felt like a kindred soul, and Yggdrakses' fervent excitement from his arrival was evidence enough. Scutinizing eyes poured over the behemoth of a man as I took him in. I smirked as I placed a hand on the ground and sent a wave of force energy out, causing all the flames that had remained to extinguish themselves. "If I wished for praise of my skills, I would have sought to train in front of the feeble minded acolytes at the academy." I hissed.

I sat down to take a break for a moment, now that this sith had come to interrupt my solitude. When he inquired that he hadn't seen me before, I scoffed. "I try to keep a low profile, not draw too much attention to myself.....yet at least." I noted, wiping sweat that hung on my eyebrows. "The name is Kaelyr...." I began, Yggdrakses urging me to get to know him. That threw me off for a moment, as I have never felt this sensation from it before, but his sensations tend to be right or for the betterment of our bond.

"So just what exactly are you. If you are like me, then that means a deity of fire resides in you as well. Mine has not been able to contain its excitement since your arrival." I revealed, standing as I was readying myself for another go at my training. ⚜

A soft scoff left his chest after he spoke.

“I never asked if you wanted praise, and keeping a low profile usually means less burning walls.”

When he introduced himself Varin offered a small nod.

“Varin, Varin Mortifer.”

His next question caused him to arch his brow, his gaze then narrowed.

“Quite dangerous of you to be so open of your own demons.”

He paced around him, slowly. Heat rolling off his body in waves like a heartbeat. A furnace of darkside energy burning within his very being. A volcano always erupting from within, yet contained in the surface.

He stopped just in front of him.

“Yet you say yours has excitement upon my arrival? A being of flame from within you.”

The runes upon his back pulsed a vibrant orange from within his shirt, just barely revealing ancient Sith scripture burned upon his flesh.

“I am many things. A vessel, rage, conquest. Some have called me The Living Pyre.”

Something beneath the surface of his being stirred deep inside at the mention of his title.

“How long have you had yours?”

⚜ He had a point, though I could admit I got lost in my training and forgot that I was not in the safety of my own training holodeck. It was at least confirmed that this Varin was just like me, though from the way he spoke, I could only come to believe that he was more a cage for whatever lurked within him than a willing participant in how he gained his bodily visitor. I smiled at his question, producing an orb of cosmic flame like a miniature sun. "Yggdrakses, the Vehement Sun, The Demon of Ravenous Fire, The All-consuming Flame. He has a penchant for burning things, and a twisted love and obsession with those who can manipulate fire."

I began, staring into the blazing orb before dismissing it. "Mine seems to trust you, given we are both vessels for otherworldly beings. Mine hasn't been wrong when giving directions in the three years since our souls were melded together, so I have no choice but to believe he's right about you." I admitted, hoping that would answer both his statement and question.

My ember red eyes fell upon his form, finding he was dressed in combat oriented clothing, and the lightsaber at his hip was evidence enough to know he was a fighter. I found myself poring over every bulge of muscle that could be seen, taking into account his gargantuan height. A part of me knew, given the right circumstances, I could best him in a duel, so I decided to test my theory. "I take it you didnt come here to spectate, and running through my drills by myself has become monotonous and mind-numbing. Care to help me work up a sweat? I can't say when the last time I had a good challenge."

My lightsaber blazed to life as I gave him a devilish smirk. "Come at me with everything you've got."

“Three years you have been joined and bound to one another? We have been bound since before I can remember.”

When Kaelyr challenged him to a duel Varin's posture changed. Now that was a language he understood. Alliance through combat. And he knew this man would not want it easy. He wanted a challenge.

And Varin would give that to him.

Varin watched him take his stance before him, his saber igniting with a crimson hue.

Varin plucked his heavy crossguard hilt. The blade roared to life with plasma fire encasing the core of burning red light. The roar slowly graduated to a growl as if a very dragon itself resided within his weapon.

His other hand then flexed, his gauntlet activating a white lightshield that cracked like lightning held within a disc surround by bloody crimson electricity that held its shape.

Varin pulled the shield in front of him and rested his blade on its edge creating a sharp his as sparks shot from the impact of both equipment.

“Very well.”

He pushed forward with the shield first, a bash to force him to flinch or block, before he followed up with a quick forward thrust of his blade.

I met his shield with a fist filled with Force energy, the collision of both offsetting the initial strike. Seeing his lightsaber coming at me to run me through, I parried it, allowing it to slide against my saber and overextend his striking arm. With a raised boot, I forced distance between us, using his abdomen as a springboard. Once my feet touched the training ground floor, I shot forward, my cosmic flame enhanced lightsaber poised to deliver a sweeping strike to bisect Varin from his left shoulder to his right hip. I would press forward, accompanying my initial attack with a flurry of arcing strikes, jabs, and thrusts.

If the towering sith managed to deflect and evade those attacks, I would dart around to his left, coming up behind him, spinning clockwise, delivering a giant blow from his left hip up to Rickter's right pectoral, only to immediately sweep it back horizontally to the left to cleave him in two at the chest. I was determined to force him into submission without killing the man, which, given his size and strength, was going to be hard. I was up for a challenge, however, and found myself becoming excited at the prospect of defeating him.

"Kaelyr Speech"

The parry had come swift and efficiently, Kaelyr performed some acrobatics showing his more nimble fighting style then came in with his own flurry of attacks.

Varin may have seemed large and slow, but he was surprisingly quick with a saber. Deflecting each blow that came his way, flashes of white and hot sparks danced off their blades as he countered each blow that came to him.

The force surged through his body further enhancing his speed and strength.

When Kaelyr darted behind him Varin was already at the defensive his Light Shield coming up to deflect the first blow. When Kaelyr's saber swung around to his other side Varin's hand came up, gripping the blade.

The saber that was so used to cleaning flesh stopped by Varin's own hand. It shook and hissed against him, more sparks shot forth, then slowly Varin's head turned towards Kaelyr.

Without warning a surge of force power erupted from his back, smoking tendrils of heat began to wrap around Kaelyr's arm and legs. They might not have burned him, but what he would feel would not be simply clouds, but something more corporeal. Something physical. It grabbed tightly, then Varin quickly kicked back, ramming his boot towards his chest.

Our clash was to be expected of two sith. The only true advantage that Varin held was his size; couple that with his remarkable speed, and he was close to being a problem for me. However, I have felled giants before, and he would be no different. What surprised me, however wasnt his martial prowess, but the otherworldly power he held. Smoke latched onto me like a viper onto a rodent, and being that he defended successfully against my attack, I was left open, and he took the advantage.

Being kicked across the training hall knocked the breath from my lungs for sure, but it also exhilarated me too. It had been so long since I had faced someone with the potential to be my equal in so long. Rising to my feet, blood escaping from my lips, I smiled at him. "Varin was it? I'll surely remember you, as you are the first in a very long time that has ignited my desire to annihilate everything in cosmic fire!!" I roared as red-violet flames screamed to life around me. My lightsaber found two extra feet added to its length as it was wreathed in cosmic fire, my eyes ablaze with the same.

Bursting forth, I rushed the behemoth of a man with an onslaught of flaming arcs of superheated force, going as far as to also unleash a torrent of cosmic flames upon him. The area would become deafened by the roaring of flames and my laughter as I let the restraint of my power loosen just a bit.

"Kaelyr Speech"

Heat swallowed him as the attacks came. Laughter echoed around him as violet and red flame seemed to engulf the room. The blows from his enemy’s saber came quickly in flurries, Varin’s body keeping up in a way that seemed to stay on track with Kaelyr’s speed.

Blocks, parries, evading. One arc coming in just close enough to cut the chest portion of his training shirt. A wound that normally would have been cauterized now bled like it was slashed from a blade of metal. His teeth gritted and he sneered from the quick pain, then his forearm came up, colliding with Kaelyr’s, halting one of his flurries in its tracks.

The wound on his chest, slowly hissed and closed up, the blood melting part of the floor at their feet from his internal body heat. As the wound closed, the dead flesh fell away like ash in the wind, not even a scar left behind.

Varin’s gaze found Kaelyr’s, it was then he would see it.

The eyes of something far older than Varin, the eyes of conquest, the eyes of war. The retina of his good eye shifted ever so slightly into a slit before rounding back to its normal shape. Within his iris, it was as if hellfire itself was birthed. Torrents of flame that danced within his eyes like the rays of solar flame.

“You want fire?”

His voice was deep.

“Then, a gift from me.”

The violet red flame that threatened to overtake Varin’s body slowly revolved around him, a torrent of spiraling infernal energy that began to shape itself behind him. The shape of a draconic skull, a forked tongue that lapped the air like a serpent.

Its maw opening up with rows of teeth before it surged forward, over Varin’s head. Its body slowly rotating, threatening to coil and wrap around Kaelyr’s very being.
