Description:
Maka Sumoto desired a relatively easy to use weapon to give out to officers aboard the pirate ship, and weapons don't get much simpler than a big old sword with a gun barrel on it. The idea behind the weapon itself is that even somebody with a relatively good amount of training in swordplay would be thrown off by the wielder shooting the heavy holdout weapon.

The sword itself is very light, owing to the fact that an average crewer probably carries around a great deal of other weight, and those issued one of the gun-sabres. On the other hand, it is very durable, and can take a lot of punishment. It is not, however, going to hold up to a lightsaber in any shape or form.
