SPECIAL FEATURES
Variable Field Geometry - After the central column opens to allow Plasma movement, the resulting Torus within the chamber needs to be precisely directed to any of the four vents. By alternating current flow to different sections of the electromagnetic 'cage', the Plasma can be fed through each Vent at the quantities required.
Strengths:
Superior Energy Output - With a mass-to-energy conversion rate of 100%, MAR reactors achieve efficiency levels far beyond their respective competitors. The Naval-Class Series 6 MAR specifically, out-performs its nearest rival by a factor of 2
Fuel escape safeguard - The antimatter and Matter both meet in the center of the central column. Both are drawn from fuel tanks and fed through via Magnetic confinement channels. If the reactor is destroyed or critical damage is detected, 'valves' in the form of an immediate switch in magnetic field geometry stops the movement of both fuels, keeping either from escaping into the SD's hull
Weaknesses:
Volatile Fuel - The use of Antimatter opens a plethora of potential problems. If, somehow, the antimatter's dedicated feed to the Reactor's central column were fractured or otherwise compromised, the escape of Antimatter into the vessel's hull would lead to gradual annihilation of the vessel's interior.
Fuel Tank - A single, large, very, very heavily armoured fuel tank is used to contain the vast amounts of Antimatter required to power an ESD. What happens if the sphere is deactivated/damaged/destroyed? Take a wild guess.
DESCRIPTION
Built specifically to power Emergence Destroyers (Skism class and others), the Series-6 is thus far, the most powerful reactor in The Emergence State, capable of outputting almost double the energy of the nearest ISD rival. The MAR itself is a toroidal structure 900m in diameter. Occupying almost the entire width of an average ESD, leaving only 100m between itself and the vacuum.
Heavily armoured and very large, thousands of Frasium tiles decorate the reactor's interior walls to offfer protection against the immense heat. Being nowhere near heat resistant enough to protect itself against its own plasma, the flow of energy is confined to a spinning torus by a complex series of Niobium-Tin Electromagnets. The same used in much of the Emergence's tech.
A single spherical fuel tank filled with a vast quantity of magnetically confined antimatter feeds its contents through a dedicated line into the central column of the reactor. The opposite end of this column has a similar injector that feeds regular matter. Both fuels meet in the middle where they collide and immediately annihilate each other. The complete conversion of mass to energy generates an incredible amount of energy in the form of gamma-ray plasma. This plasma quickly moves from the column into the 'greater chamber' where it is spun into a torus and confined by magnets. Four white vents each feed the plasma into dedicated transport networks that power the major aspects of the vessel (Hyperdrive, primary/sub systems, turboplasma array, engines).
Due to the nature of ignited fusion/MAR reactors, critical damage or sudden deactivation is essentially harmless as the gamma-ray plasma quickly fades without incurring any damages. However, the fuel used is not so harmless. The Antimatter injector within the central column features its own magnet architecture that, when detecting or suffering damage to its surroundings, activates and closes the 'valve' by reversing the direction the antimatter is moved, sending it back to its tank.
