SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Projects false dark side aura and helps mask the wearer's emotions.
  • Alchemised.
STRENGTHS
  • The ring projects a false dark side aura for the wearer, making them appear as a darksider,. The false aura also helps mask the wearer's emotions. Moreover, with some focus the ring is able to manifest an optical illusion of physical darkside corruption. Depending on the user's desires, this can range from simple yellow eyes to far more extensive signs of physical darkside degradation Conversely, the illusion can also make the wearer look more physically appealing...since many Sith these days remain attractive...sometimes in an uncanny valley way.
  • More resistant to wear and damage due to alchemisation, even from lightsabres and heavy kinetic impacts.
WEAKNESSES
  • Of course, while a lightsabre strike might not destroy the ring, it can cut off the finger wearing it and thus lift the veil.
  • Force null zones. The item gains its power from the Force, after all. It will become a mundane piece of jewellery in a Ysalamiri field.
  • Using blatantly lightside powers while wearing the ring weakens the illusion, making this very ill-advised. One cannot maintain an aura of darkness while, for example, summoning Force Light.
  • A strong master gifted in illusions and mentalism could notice something is...off about the aura, though not necessarily what.
  • The Force is a duality, and so while Force Light can damage dark side artefacts, powerful blasts of dark side energy can damage the ring and the sorcery that gives it its preternatural qualities.
DESCRIPTION

In this day and age, Sith are fond of infiltrating all manners of institutions to get what they want. One could say that it was a trend started by Darth Bane and Zannah. The latter famously used her sorcerous arts to infiltrate the Jedi Archives, fooling even Jedi Masters. Since then many Sith have followed in her footsteps to accrue power and wealth. Sith have infiltrated corporate boardrooms, galactic governments and Jedi councils. Or sometimes just the bedrooms of gullible Padawans. The followers of the Illuminated Path of the Light Father, the Inheritors of the Light Father, are a home-grown Tephriki cult that has, in many ways, adopted Banite methods.

Spawned by heretical Vaderites who learned the true story of Vader's fall and redemption, they are devoted to ending the tyranny of the Disciples of the Vader and the Dominion of Light. They revere Vader not as the tyrannical Dark Lord, but as a repentant warrior who now, according to their beliefs, guards the gates of Chaos as penance for his sins. But the Inheritors are an underground sect persecuted by the riven factions of Tephrike. They serve the Light, but must strike from the shadows to undermine the totalitarian regimes through subterfuge, espionage, propaganda and assassination.

All too often this requires an Inheritor to hide in plain sight and walk the halls of the temples and strongholds of the Sith disguised as one of them. For a select few agents and assassins, the alchemists of the sect have fashioned the Sentinel's Masque, a ring that allows them to conceal their true allegiance in the Force. It allows them to pass as servants of evil. Only very experienced agents are given the ring.

Imbued with a mentalist's power, the ring aids the wearer by covering them in a dark side aura. In the process, the wearer's true alignment is obfuscated and it helps mask the wearer's emotions from Force-based scrutiny. The the wearer does not need to spend Force energy on casting and maintaining the spell themselves, though they must wear the ring for the deception to work. The fact that the ring has a presence in the Force does not arouse suspicion because wearing sorcerous items is normal for a Sith. However, the cloak conceals that it was forged through the arts of the light, not the dark. One could call it a cloak of darkness. The runes are engraved upon the ring, and it is bonded to the wearer through a small amount of their blood.

It is important to note that the ring cannot eliminate the wearer's light side or neutral aura. It merely conceals it behind a dark shadow. While the cloak of smothering darkness is very potent and intense, if the veil is lifted, one can perceive the wearer's true nature. Furthermore, using blatantly lightside powers such as say Force Light while wearing the item is ill-advised. In the end, the most effective camouflage is simply to play the part and avoid being detected committing acts that would make others question the masquerade. Of course, this more often than not this requires making harrowing moral compromises to fit amongst the Sith, who are all too inclined to demand savage tests of loyalty. But an Inheritor's life is sacrifice.
