OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The Sentinel Series Droid was first manufactured during the Jedi Civil War and used by both the Jedi and the Sith during the Old Republic Era. Outwardly the iconic humanoid appearance remained unchanged while upgrades to materials and programming were made. The last Sentinel droid upgrade was the Mark V. Many centuries later the reliable design is being given new life in the Mark VI under the Sith Empire. A rugged droid with a well known history, to those who design battle droids, know they are superior to the Separatist designed B-Series and OOM-Series battle droids. But at a cost. A Sentinel droid is roughly the price of five B1 droids. During their original fielding many of the Sentinel droids had a personal deflector shield. In this new age of technological progress the mundane deflector shield of eight hundred years ago has become more easy to produce. To save further costs the Mark VI is not insulated against EMP attacks - a weakness that has plagued battle droid designs for much longer than the Sentinel droid series has been around. The Mark VI will be a contender for one of the most competent mainline battle droids found on the contemporary battlefield, programmed with the skills to use all major groups of small arms including grenades.
The personal shield is not meant to be an excuse to shrug off attacks. A blaster bolt is still a dangerous projectile. The shield should be used to absorb some of the attack to prolong the life of the droid. All shields break and personal shields are notoriously fragile (outside of the Droideka).
- Intent: To create a modern Sentinel Droid originating from the designs from the KOTOR series of games.

- Deflector Shield: This series of droids had optional deflector shielding which created a small bubble of protection around the droid, effective against most small arms. Though not as strong as some droid shielding the Mark VI droids have these shields as standard.
- Tactical Programming: The Sentinels of the Old Republic era were formidable for their time but lacked some of the finer decision making skills of their successors (such as the Tactical Droids of the Confederacy). With the prevalence of Tactical Droid programming it was only a matter of time before it made its way into more rank and file droids. The Mark VI has the mental prowess of an experienced organic soldier and can more quickly learn from past failures (should the droid survive them). Although it should be noted that the programming was watered down so not to slow down the Sentinel while in combat. A purpose built Tactical Droid would still be smarter than the Mark VI.
- Electromagnetic Pulse Sensitivity: At the end of the day the goal of creating a battle droid is to save costs while providing the most effective weapon for the task at hand. To this end the Mark VI has been given a Deflector Shield as standard while forgoing EMP resistant materials. With no resistance to anti-droid weaponry any Mark VI can fall easy prey to a lucky Jawa scavenger with an Ion Blaster, should the circumstances be right.
