The 8th Noble
Every drag of the clock's arm was like an eternity. Every tick put a fine line and punctuation on yet another moment spent pouring over this letter. Colette's brows sank. She pursed her lips for a moment before she crumpled the paper and threw it in the can with a dozen other pieces just like it.
Nothing felt appropriate when swallowing your pride. 'Dear Reina' was too formal 'Hey, it's me' too shallow. To excuse her actions felt wrong, but she couldn't just leave it unsaid either. Or could she? Words like these had never been her thing. Despite what she may have made it seem like, she herself had been the apprentice of a renowned battlemaster for a reason.
Action would never be triumphed by word.
A long sigh blew from her nose. She grabbed a new paper and began to jot another string of letters onto it. Once satisfied she gave it a once-over and hurriedly ran out of the room. The people of Ukatis were nothing if not crafty. A brief 'overtaxation on the left starboard ramp flange' meant that her ship had to be checked before the redhead could take off. Colette handed her letter to a server who handed it to a dockworker who handed it to a technician who placed it on a nearby table when Reina wasn't looking on his way out.
Reina,
You were right, I didn't listen to you. I was blinded by my own beliefs and fears, and I tried to make you into something you are not. You saw what I didn't see, and I am ashamed to admit that.
I failed to keep my promise. As a mentor, I didn't listen. As a protector, I was too weak.
I don't expect you to forgive me. Maybe after some time has passed I hope we can meet again under less hostile circumstances. But I also don't expect that to be anytime soon given the emotions from earlier today.
Just know that I've taken a lot of what you said to heart, even some of the harsher truths.
