- Description: Formed from critically wounded soldiers from the Eternal Army, the men and women of the Second-Chance Battalion are sought out by the Scientific Division and given a choice, to leave military service or to be repaired and given a second chance to serve the Empire, if they choose to accept they are rushed into surgery and have whatever damaged parts removed and replaced artificially, effectively giving them a second chance to once again fight for the Empire. The individuals who serve the in the Second-Chance Battalion are proud to again serve the Empire, even if they often remain on guard duty or transport protection detail. Most look up to Colonel Orrin as the first member of the Battalion as he was the first to be given a second chance to serve, so they remain entirely loyal to him above other members of the Scientific Division. Not all candidates survive the surgery required to join the Battalion, which keeps the number of soldiers serving to around 2,500.

- Combat Function: To ensure the protection of Science Division Facilities and Personnel, capture specific materials or creature needed for study, kill any individuals threatening active research. The Battalion often classes with other branches of the military, often being referred to as the “Broken” by other units serving the Empire.
- Second-Chance: Since all of the soldiers of the battalion would have normally died or been forced into an early retirement, surrender or retreat is not an option. Often, solders will fight ferociously and to the last man rather then squander their chance at a glorious death.
- Artificial Augments: All soldiers are modified in some way in order to keep them alive or ensure they are fit for combat, often these augments grant the average soldier enhanced stamina and some additional resistance to damage from standard weaponry.
- Back to Training: After their operations, soldiers of the battalion return to a special training regiment to adjust to their new augments, ensuring each soldier returns to combat fully trained and prepared for most situations that my come up during Scientific Division Operations.
- The Broken: While the men and women of the battalion see themselves as improved, the rest of the Eternal Military views these soldiers as cowards and failures, unable to even die for the Empire and as a result the battalion has difficulty coordinating with regular Army units, sometimes leading to infighting if a commanding officer is not present.
- Inflexible: With their new chance at service, soldiers of the Battalion believe they are invincible and often prefer head on assault to any sort of strategy. This can often lead to unnecessary loss of life and has often forced battalion soldiers to have an officer present in order to ensure they follow orders and overall strategy.
For as long as the Eternal Empire has existed, the Scientific Division has often lacked resources and field personal to improve Imperial technology. This changed when Colonel Vyktor Orrin rises through the ranks and finds himself having to rely on normal Eternal Army soldiers for any operations and protection. This often caused him to clash with High Command as it was believed he was pulling soldiers who could be used more efficiently on the front lines rather then protecting some lab. So, a compromise was arranged to ensure both groups were able to live in a sort of harmony. Vyktor was permitted to enlist those soldiers who would normally die or be forced to retire early due to battlefield injury into a special force that would perform all combat and protection operations for the Scientific Division, ensuring these soldiers are not wasted. These new soldiers were quickly formed into a new battalion and the very first troopers were allowed to name the battalion themselves, with the Second-Chance Battalion becoming the official title of these improved soldiers. While not fighting on the front lines, battalion soldiers often prove how ruthlessly efficient they can be, often leaving no survivors. They understand they are often protecting weaponry and new scientific developments that may propel the Eternal Empire to galactic dominance and they will fight to the death to ensure the future the Empire is secured, while also giving them a chance to die an honorable death in combat.
