Suggestion Searchable Map?

Been pondering this for a while - maybe something where the map could snap to a planet’s location or tell us which major faction it belongs to? The map is lovely and I use it a lot when planning threads on planets I’m not super familiar with, but I’m blind and sometimes have trouble figuring out where things are when zooming in and dragging to see all the planet names.

Not sure how difficult this would be to implement but I figure it wouldn’t hurt to ask!

I just don’t wanna accidentally start a goofy public thread in a sith stronghold or something ty

You should be able to search planets on the map now, allowing you to quickly zoom to them and providing a link to the custom or Wookiee article one it. The only issue is that you need to make sure it is spelled correctly, or it won't work.

Clicking on the eye icon takes you there while the search icon below it takes you to the details. Just give it a quick zoom and it pops up.

Since the map is in flux with being updated, I'd use the classic map selection to see which planets are within a major faction cloud until the new one has all the updates and planet movements completed.

That is what I would advise, as Tefka has indicated that while Major factions can continue to post their hex claims on the map update thread, the actual map will not be updated until it reaches its final form.

If you use the classic map for now, you will know which planets are within the cloud as of the last map update. Depending on how long the update may take, just double check if any neutral hexes by a major faction have been claimed on the map update.

But one can RP on any planet. No one can bar you from RPing on a planet if you want to RP on it, even if it's on a major faction cloud.

Per the Map Announcement below, here is the quoted language on it.

Major Factions, please continue to update the Map Update Thread with your hexes, we'll honor them. Please do not abuse this period of time, or I will be forced to intervene and tell you to stop, and then I'll likely halt all map operations.


This temporary cooldown is in effort to support the final adoption of the new map while last changes are being made. (Faction clouds are plotted, but there's still 2,000+ planets to move around.)

Some things to be aware of -

1. If you have opinions of where a planet currently is, don't weigh in. There will be a period of time to do so, it will be formally announced. Right now, I don't care, you're distracting from the actual important stuff.

2. The new timeline, which will debut after the map is finalized and formally adopted/announced, will carry with it an IC explanation for why... things... are different.

I know its fun to be excited but please exhibit patience while we march towards the last week or two of this transition. I don't think we've changed the map since like, 2016-2017, so again, I thank you for your patience this is a new undertaking for all of us.

I like how the map has done this since like, 2021, and this person has been at 100% zoom raging about planet locations.
