SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Potent Mixture: The actual substance contained within the canister, the ordinance that is meant to be used via particle weaponry, is a carefully crafted and measured compound. Made of energized particles that have been introduced to small amounts of pressurized blaster gas, the resulting particle ordinance ensures a deadly explosive result against any and all solid objects while also having a slightly enhanced effect on shields when compared to more typical projectile ordinance. This mixture is easily scaled up or down depending on the canister's volume and its damage potential is naturally scaled as well while maintaining its potent capability even despite more compact containers.
STRENGTHS
  • Rending Fire: A mixture of energized particles and blaster gas ensures a particularly explosive and devastating effect on physical matter. Metals, minerals, and other such substances are easily torn apart by the resulting explosion caused by the ordinance being discharged with density alone often being the only saving grace for whatever they might impact as other factors such as hardness or composition can scarcely mute their destructive potential.
WEAKNESSES
  • Volatile Munitions: Given the rather unstable nature of particle mixtures, the canisters are susceptible to exploding when not properly handled or especially when outright targeted by energy weaponry or damage such as by blaster fire. This naturally results in their ordinance payload instead exploding violently and typically damaging whatever the canister may be near or in contact with at the time, although this does provide some additional usability as makeshift explosive ordinance.
DESCRIPTION
Particle weaponry had been something of a mystery to the engineers and development team at Sanguine Defense Works for quite some time. The vast majority of their designs and products had largely been reverse engineered or based off of existing technology that was easily accessible and which technical knowledge of was widely known. Particle weaponry was not nearly as widespread as that of its laser counterpart and was virtually nonexistent within Wild Space and the Outer Rim. Importing some models to study had been considered but the shifting galaxy had put a halt to any and all imports for quite some time meaning that another avenue for acquiring the weaponry had been shut.

A few prototype particle cannon turrets were constructed at the SDW headquarters but these test weapons always lacked the most essential component of any ranged arsenal. The ammunition. The initial energized particle compounds proved too unstable to be of any use as they would often spontaneously combust either shortly after their composition was complete and the energizing process finalized or would do so at the slightest jostle during the extraction of the substance. Various mixtures and compounds were tested all with lackluster results until one experiment finally seemed to resolve the instability issue.

By introducing pressurized blaster gas into the compound, the particle mixture was diluted enough so that it could be extracted and packaged into canisters of varying sizes to fit various weapons. The pressurized gas, while diluting the raw power of the mixture overall, would essentially freeze the energizing reaction while at the same time storing said energy so that it could be unleashed at any time once the gas itself was triggered to do so. The blaster gas also gave the resulting particle ordinance a noticeable, albeit fairly minor, effect on most shields which no other mixture had accomplished. With their ammunition riddle solved the SDW's existing repertoire of blaster weaponry would soon be joined by particle beam counterparts, with their first widely produced particle cannon being that of the Mailoc MK. 2.
