STRENGTHS
- A Buzzsaw against Durasteel: Particle Beam Cannons are notable for their sustained rates of fire and high damage output. Those outfitted onto the Scythe-Class Cruiser also have a one hundred and eighty degree arc of fire allowing their advanced targeting systems to maintain contact with enemy vessels once they've been struck. Sustained contact with a handful of Particle Beams can drain any ships deflector shields, sustained contact with upwards of eight beams or more can devour a shields power supply quickly and cut into the meaty, metallic side of any starship in short order. A barrage from the Scythe's Particle Beams on unprotected ships can absolutely shred a durasteel hull and the frame beneath it.
- All the Other Explosions: Disruptor Cannons, Proton Torpedoes; the Scythe also comes equipped with both of them. Though either has only a small representation on the Cruiser they make up another powerful punch that can be delivered and that remains active when the Scythe is recharging its particle beams.
- Fast and Furious: The Scythe was designed to make ground quickly against enemy vessels. It's easily faster than larger vessels and most Cruisers of its size meaning it can close quickly and chew up enemy ships, especially those that believe it will take them longer to make distance.
WEAKNESSES
- A long reload: Particle Beams can maintain a sustained amount of fire for a lengthy amount of time but recharging them is also a lengthy process. Once a Particle Beam has drained its power supply (upwards of 15-25 seconds worth of sustained fire in many cases) it requires a full minute before it can be fired again. During this time the Scythe can only rely on its other weapon systems.
- Low Hangar Capacity: While these Cruisers do have a Hangar Capacity it is reserved for a mixture of Shuttles and Gunships. No Fighter Squadrons are generally docked on board a Scythe-Class Cruiser leaving the Cruiser to rely on the high number of point defense cannons at its disposal to defend against enemy fighters and bombers.
DESCRIPTION
The Scythe-Class Cruiser hereafter referred to as 'the Scythe' was commissioned by
Naimes Ahn-Dross
for the Mandalorian Clan that bears his name and has sworn allegiance to him. While Clan Ahn-Dross is small, boasting few members its contributions to the Mandalorian Clans are still noteworthy. Many of those from Clan Ahn-Dross are skilled combatants and the union of Mandalorian and Dathomiri culture, via Cennika Hawk the partner of Naimes ensures that they have strong connections to the force as well.The Scythe was made to permit those of Clan Ahn-Dross to take on an active military and exploration role. True, the Cruiser is primarily made for 'Fast Attack' however as Clan Ahn-Dross are primarily a spacebound Clan the ships often also serve as the homes for different members.
Boasting powerful 'Particle Beam' technology alongside Disruptor Cannons and Proton Torpedo Launchers the Scythe's are able to punch well above their weight class in terms of sheer damage output to hostile vessels. They also come with high defensive potential. Both offense and defense are augmented by powerful ion engines which ensure that the Scythes are fast ships, capable of outrunning most things of a similar or larger size without trouble.
These Cruisers cost a lot to build ensuring their production value is limited at best. While other Scythe-Class Cruisers could be built in the future at present there are maybe a dozen such cruisers existence and all of them are under the command of the Ahn-Dross or those they've given a captaincy to.
