Description: Not designed to be the prettiest or the safest, Belle Morte when she designed the ship with the help of Iron Crown used second hand information to try and create the design. Reports of the Omega shield ships which could withstand heavy barrages and protect large amounts of their ships for a time was of interest with the threats in the Unknown regions or the way against their enemies. Any tactical advantage no matter how minor could prove invaluable to the Fringes efforts. Weeks toiling away in the rooms as researching the ancient Derriphan's also proved useful.

The first prototype was a success somewhat, they managed to produce a sustainable shield but without the specs it could only come to a forth the size of Omega's, not a profitable or worthwhile notion but something that could prove invaluable if used in the right sections of a fleet. Protect the most vulnerable parts of a ship and draw fire. That was the end goal as far as some and without more fudning it wouldn't become anything good. So the design and limited shield was left. The other key function she looked at was protecting it. The shield ships were made rather weak but that helped them. The old Derriphan's didn't even use shields they were just heavy armor plates and very little guns.

That became the new goal as they began to armor the ship up. The possibility of it being a ship for taking heavy damage and pushing through enemy lines was something more of interest. The suicidal oneness of the ships led to them moving about making the majority of systems be simplistic. The main shield, life support and communications were set up into the power with some minor weapons but nothing strong just to prevent borders or enemy ship coming. The crew would be tightly packed and best on minimal crew with eight gunners and sixteen to operate the ship systems as they charged through. The idea of ramming enemy ships and possibly surviving becoming something of a true battering ram to rip into and finish off ships.

For a prototype built around second-hand reports, I like this. It has all the check-marks of a prototype; it doesn't have the exact same capabilities as the opposition, it has a number of vulnerabilities and shortcomings. You've traded raw shielding potential for reliability and increased durability. The only thing I have to nitpick is that a prototype ship line doesn't typically see mass production til field tests are done. If you could drop it to minor and then in the future come back with a thread showing its use, we can bump it up to mass produced then. Sound good?
