Someone once spoke "as long as there laws, there are those willing to break them". It becomes even easy when one is born into a family of thieves, assassins, and criminals. Such is the case of Salmai Djau, the head of the Blood Orchid Triad. She was born on the world of Takodana, in the ancient refuge that was once Maz Kanata's castle- still a gathering hole for all manner of criminal. She was born to a curious mixture. Her father was a Nightbrother turned bounty hunter, hailing from the
Mistwalker Clan. Her mother was fierce, cunning assassin of Kuati heritage. As such, she was born into the criminal element.
As she grew, she had made several visits back to her father's home, and being trained among her extended family. Namely, she was quickly taken in by her paternal aunts, being taught the ways of Nightsister combat and stealth. Her maternal grandmother did attempt to teach her in the ways of Dathomiri magic, but Salmai was not a great pupil when it came to meditation and incantation. Her connection to the spirts was limited. However, her grandmother nonetheless gave the gift of two blades, enchanted by the magicks to be impervious like the Sith alchemical blades of old. Her grandmother was a wise old witch, for she knew that her granddaughter would eventually find herself facing the Jedi in one path or another.
Aside from her visits to her Dathomirian family, Salmai largely spent her life being raised by her criminal parents. While she was at first a bounty hunter and mercenary at the age of 18, she soon found that she loved the thrills of piracy and theft. She eventually struck it out on her own, forming a gang in her own image: the Blood Orchid Triad. While not as big or as well known, it was a sisterhood of pirates, thieves, and ne'er-do-wells. She almost exclusively recruited women, as she found comfort in the matriarchal ways of the Dathomiri and her mother's Kuati background.
As it stands now, Salmai and her Triad have linked up with the larger community calling itself the Kraken Coalition. Who better to join than another den of piracy?

Strengths and Weaknesses(+) Lady Death: Having been trained by both her parents and her Dathomiri relatives, Salmai has becoming something of a fierce fighter. She knows how to handle blades and blasters with equally deadly effect. She has also learned how to use stealth to her advantage.
(+) Silvertongue: Being a pirate comes with the need to have a mind for negotiation. You have to be diplomatic amongst your crew, and with other buccaneers you deal with. Salmai is no different, having learned to use her words to great affect as well as her weaponry.
(-) Matriarchal: Being born of both Dathomirian and Kuati ancestry, Salmai has been exposed to a strongly matriarchal view of society. While she does not outright hate men, she is quick to judge them. She particularly has no problem killing them if she finds them to be one who harms women, be they in her crew or not.
(-) Force Unleashed: From her Dathomirian blood, she is a descendant of Allya. She has a connection to what her paternal family calls magic, and what Jedi refer to as the Force. Yet, she never got to be formally trained. Any attempt of Force usage is going to be sloppy at best, and catastrophic at worst.
