Sailing

Mon Cala(Dac) , Sirene Islands | [member="Myra Elspeth"] | Theme

Waves lapped against the dark wood of his sailboat as it was moored against the last island on the Sirene Island chain. Makai was preparing for the first real voyage of the Aeolus.Seemed only fitting he would name his boat after the divine keeper of the winds, now he could only help those winds would be in his favor today. No one hopped aboard a sailboat only to use the outboard motors. Today's trip wasn't a long one, island hopping here and there, visiting a outcropping or two.

Still it seemed he was dragging the entire guest house on board. Currently it was a cooler.A grunt or two seemed to helped drag it on board which ended up with him nearly tripping and falling backwards into the boat. Catching himself, Makai made sure Ellie wasn't around to see his clumsiness before continuing.

It took a little longer to drag everything up on deck but it appeared he finished before Ellie had arrived. Being on Life Day break from school, Makai had invited her over, the girl arriving not too long ago. They hadn't seen one another since the kiss at Zak Dymo's wedding. There had been messages back and forth, their usual banter. Face to face though? Makai was hoping not to make an awkward idiot of himself.

Bare feet easily walked down the gangplank, deciding to wait on the white sand beach for his friend. It was probably best to look like he wasn't desperately waiting for the first sign of her too.

The rapid thump, thump, thump of pounding footsteps wouldn't be missed. Makai would not have to wait long.

Long brown hair came streaming out behind her, but the fringe of long bangs always managed to catch between her eyes. A flick of her hand pushed them away from the gray orbs, excitement rushing through that brilliant gaze.

"MAKAI!" the cry went echoing out as Myra Elspeth came tearing down the dock like a Mynock out of the Nine Hells and indeed a Force to be reckoned with.

Her bag jiggled on her back with every step, feet pounding as she turned and continued down the wooden dock. Dressed in spacer clothes, she was suited more for travel. It was fairly evident that she didn't even bother to change from the shuttle that had dropped her off. Nope, too excited to see the half, Galen.

"Makai!" a wave of a hand and another burst of speed and it was only too soon that the young girl would throw her arms around him.

Makai loitered around, gazing at the ocean as he waited. The thumping of feet on the deck startled him at first, thinking there was some sort of emergency. One [member="Myra Elspeth"] quickly came into view. Amused look colored his features as he caught sight of the girl. It looked more as if she was just coming off a envirosuit walk rather than joining him for a day of island hopping.

"ELLIE!"

It appeared he didn't have to worry about their time apart as she tackled him in a hug. Makai threw his own arms around her, picking her off the ground a little. Laughing he kissed her on the cheek before setting her back down on the wooden dock.

He was more than excited to see her, releasing his grip on her just slightly to take her in. Grin spread across his face as he thought of some ways to tease her later on about the deep space getup.

"I missed you." It was no understatement, Makai had been a little lost without his friend/crush bossing him around lately. "How's everything? I haven't seen your Ma in a long time, is she okay?"

There was nothing as giddy as feeling Makai's arms around her skinny frame and his kiss right on with her cheek. If anyone could beam as brightly as she did then, Myra would be hard pressed to believe it. Gray eyes were wide, her brown hair all over the place, and cheeks a bright pink in excitement.

Goodness, Makai Dashiell had no right to look that cute! His curly brown hair was flopping all over the place, the wind picking it up now and then to toss it in the air. Myra was able to catch a few of the bleached highlights the sun had painted through it, and oh how pretty his blue scales appeared under the glow of the sun.

"Missed you too." and she did. Loads. " She's great! Just been busy getting some stuff done with my pa. They are looking a building some new station."

With a jiggle, she adjusted the straps of her back. Rocking on her feet, the pre-teen preened under Makai's attention. She might be all arms and legs but it didn't matter. Right here, right now, she had him all to herself.

"How's your pa doing?' a glance around. "Where's Koa?"

"Another station? Can't wait to visit. Tell your Ma I miss seeing her....Maybe I can pop over soon."

Amused eyes took her in as she jiggled her backpack and continued on the conversation. It was cute to watch Ellie be completely excited. All the fears about kissing her and acting like a total idiot seemed to fly out the window. Granted, he always ended up acting like an idiot around Ellie, but she didn't seem to mind.

"He's alright. Busy."

Truth was his Dad seemed a bit distracted lately. Makai couldn't figure out what just yet but was still investigating.

"Koa is asleep on deck." Head inclined towards the moored sailboat. "Seems to like resting out in the sun."

It was finally time to tease her. Scale speckled hand reach out and tugged at her long sleeved clothing. A questioning brow was raised, directed at her attire. While he was ready in board shorts and a long-sleeved rash guard, it was clear Ellie wasn't going to make it in the heat. Not in that get up.

"So....where are your beach clothes? I see Deep Space Ellie but no Ocean Fun Ellie." Iced azure eyes looked towards her backpack. "In there I hope? If you hop onto the sailboat, there's a stateroom below decks if you want to go change. I can get us underway while you're busy."

[member="Makai Dashiell"]

"Oh." Myra immediately gave a glance down at her clothing. Well, she hadn't really given thought about changing over as much as seeing Makai again. Her anticipation had gotten the best of her, and it showed. Cheeks flushed pink in a sheepish smile.

"Ah, yeah," she gave the nod, rocking on her heels and then giving a first few steps over towards the sailing boat.

"I got clothes to change over." it would be rather hot to continue wearing them.

"KOA!!" she cried out, trying to see if the Loth-cat could hear her. Of course, he did. Only that his sudden start and abrupt look around was more klutzy than graceful.

"So this is it?!"

[member="Myra Elspeth"]

"Good."

Startled Koa would do his best to get his bearings. Feline eyes spotted Myra and he perked up, trotting down the narrow gangplank looking as if his arrival should be celebrated. Reaching the dock he pranced around the girls legs, expecting to be the center of attention.

"Yep.Aeolus, or God of the Winds if we roughly translate the Galan language..." A slight pause. "A grand tour awaits mi'lady"

Eyes caught the gangplank, looking at the considerable distance between the dock and the boat. Makai was still in a playful mood yet also didn't want to see Ellie fall into the water. Moving quickly, he picked up his friend "caveman style" , with Ellie slung over his shoulder. Her head would be hanging down by his backside, his arm securely around the back of her knees so she couldn't slip away.

"First step of the tour, gangplank. Key is not to fall into the water."

Bare feet confidently started on the gangplank, walking up towards the boat. Carrying odd loads aboard had gotten him used to juggling extra weight along with himself up the narrow strip of wood. It didn't take long to to reach the deck with Koa hot at their heels, trying to jump up and play with Ellie's long hair.

"This is the deck. I'm sure you can see the wood grain from the angle you're at. I hand stained everything. Worth it, don't you think?"

Makai grinned like an idiot, moving along the deck so Ellie could see the vast expanses of wood he put down by hand. He was really just teasing her, knowing she couldn't see much. Knees bent, he worked on letting Ellie get back upright, starting with letting her slide down and put her feet on the decking.

Course Koa would try to be the center of attention. Just the way he got to purring and making himself at home by strutting around and rubbing up on Myra's legs made that evident enough.

"Oh your silly thing," the young teenager exclaimed, bending down to grab the fluffy feline and tug him into her arms. Koa wasn't too prepared for that, so he gave a mewl of protest. One that waned into a half purr when Myra began to rub him behind his ears.

"Aeolus?" having the girl try and repeat it without sounding funny was trouble enough. But she tried anyways, and that's what counted right? A pink blush colored her cheeks. She set Koa down after.

"You gonna make me walk then plank then ---EEK!" the shriek of her voice turned into laughter as Makai slung her over her shoulder. Her world spun, hair flopping over her face and catching in her mouth.

"MAKAI!" she gave him a proper smack on his left butt cheek too.

"Haha.. put me DOWN!"

Of course, Myra really didn't want him to.

"Hey, if you keep getting handsy its going to cost you."

Makai ignored her pleas, arm still firmly around her knees to hold her in place. Secretly he didn't mind her smacking his backside. Koa continued to follow them around, jumping up and trying to play with [member="Myra Elspeth"] 's hair. He wasn't succeeding and started to make little grunting noises with each jump.

Moving below decks, Makai continued to carry her down on the 'tour' of the rest of the boat. It was much the same as the top deck, wood paneled and following the bow of the ship. Stopping in the galley, Makai moved to let Ellie down. Hand loosened on the back of her knees and he let Ellie slide down his chest until her feet reached the floor.

Ellie was still close to him and he reached out and pulled her back to him, moving in for a kiss. It was still a little awkward, yet somehow better than their first kiss at the wedding. It felt like an eternity but in reality it was only a brief encounter of their lips.

There was a sheepish grin afterwards.

"Sorry....I've been wanting to do that since the first time....Hope you don't mind....."

[member="Makai Dashiell"]

It would be a lie to say that sliding against Makai didn't get Myra all tingly and short of breath. Really, it was a silly thing, but it also prompted another rush of color upon the young girl's cheeks when he kissed her right after.

It was as if it didn't matter that she was all legs and arms and zilch on curves; or that she had more hair on her head than charisma and charm. Her tongue had the habit of running away from her, making the pre-teen seem to be all brash than silk. But oh how did Makai Dashiell manage to make her feel as if she were butter melting on a hot pan.

Felt like forever but gone in an instant. That's what it seemed when both ended up just awkwardly gazing up at each other with a shuffle of feet.

"I don't mind." Myra was quick to say, her voice cracking a bit and sending another abashed wave of self-consciousness over her face.

'Course, that's when Koa demanded attention, bumping his wide head against their feet with a loud yowl.

Myra gave a giggle, looking down at the Loth-Cat.

"Alright, you'll get affection too."

Makai scowled at his pet a little as the creature moved against their legs and yowled for attention. Of course the little beast would bring him back to reality, demanding attention from Ellie more so than himself. It seemed both Dashiell "men" were taken with the pre-teen girl.

He reached down and scratched the Loth-cat behind the ears, feline eyes closing in pleasure as Koa finally got the attention he was worthy of. Little noises of appreciative pleasure emanated from Koa, only stopping when Makai withdrew his hand once again.

"I better get this boat underway.We got some stops to make for Dad." Makai nodded over towards the corner. "Bathroom's right there when you wanna change, you can throw your stuff wherever.....Food in the galley if you're hungry."

Since Ellie had just come off her transport, Makai figured she probably needed a few moments to herself after their initial reunion. Koa was plastered to the side of her and he didn't bother trying to move the creature up deck. With a grin, Makai kissed her cheek and started to walk away.

"Since you don't mind..."

With a jaunty little step, Makai disappeared back up the stairs to unhook the sailboat from the dock and get them going on the wide open waters.

"Umm, okay." Myra's face gained another shade of pink at the Dashiell's brush of her cheek with a kiss. Koa butted his head against her ankle again, prompting the pre-teen to pluck him down from the ground.

"Whatcha mean, stuff for your dad?" she called out before Makai managed to dart out. Likely a question she should have asked after she'd changed over, but after not seeing the half Galen for a long while now, Myra was a bit hesitant to see him walk off so fast. Even if it was a ridiculous concept seeing as how they were on the same ship.

As if catching herself, the brunette had a sudden abashed wave flush her face in embarrassment. Really, did she have to ask that here?? Now?

"Nevermind, you go on now," she gave a shake of her head, plucking it away from Koa -- who was none too happy. He thrust his head onto her palm to make his displeasure known.

Half-way up the stairs he stopped at her words. Makai eased back underneath the deck, stopped to catch her words about what they had to do for his Dad. Iced azure eyes took in her appearance quickly. Her cheeks flushed and she seemed embarrassed about something. Did he say something wrong?

"We got to pick up a few things for a project. Don't worry, we'll still have a lot of fun.Promise."

Makai stopped to look her up and down.

"You look kind of flushed.Hurry up and change, you're going to miss being on the water."

Giving a final look at her, Makai disappeared up the stairs and into the bright Dac sunshine.Eyes squinted for a moment before putting on sunglasses and unhooking them from the dock. Within minutes they were cutting through the ocean, sails puffed out in the stiff breeze.

You didn't have to tell her twice then. Myra was practically flying on air, quickly grabbing hold of the hem of her shirt to swipe it over her head. A small ,"pfft." sound flubbed her lips, the fabric catching not once, but twice in her rush. One hand managed to slip off the right sleeve but the left was being stubborn. Half blind for all of two seconds and Koa decided to bonk her on the calf again.

"Koa not now!" she cried out, light and breath coming back to her as she managed to wrangle the shirt off. Cool air caught bare skin, tiny hairs standing on end with the cold. A hop, skip and a jump followed the removal of her pants with the replacement of shorts. Well, after putting on the blue and white poka dot bathing suit underneath.

Oh she was a terriblly lackluster sight, but the color seemed to offset her golden skin. Time spent at the farm and on Tatooine provided for a tan. Not to mention the constant swimming.

"Alright." she gave herself a glance over. Her hair was a mess. Poofing up at the sides and falling down her shoulders and back like dirty straw. A glower set over her features.

"Stupid hair." she muttered, fingers combing through the thick mass to tie it up in a messy topknot at the crown of her head. A few bits of strands she raked down along the sides of her face, hoping that at least it made her look a little bit pretty.

Well, considering how even the bathing suit did nothing for the carpenter's delight of a chest she had.

Wind rushed through his curly locks as his sunglass encased eyes scanned the ocean. Off in the distance several fishing boats could be seen trawling on the horizon. Islands dotted the view as well, sticking out like odd green polka-dots against the brilliant blue. It was a decent day to head out on the water if he had to say so himself.

One hand rested lightly on the wheel, keeping the Aeolus on track as they cut through the water. Head turned towards the entrance to below deck, looking for Ellie. Granted she hadn't been out of his sight for long and he did kind of tell her to rest or grab some food if she needed to.

The only creature emerging from below deck was Koa, looking highly annoyed. Ellie must have told him off or refused to pay attention to the demanding Loth-cat. Tail held as proudly as Koa could muster, he trotted over to the plush seats behind the wheel and sat down.

"She kick you out buddy? Try stealing her sandwich again? I told you, gotta be careful." Makai reached over to pat his pet on the head. " She's feisty but I think its worth it, don't you think? Would you want a girl who agreed with you all the time? Kind of annoying."

"I didn't kick him out." Myra's voice piped up from behind Makai, if a bit defensively. Granted, it had a lot more bark than actual bite. Walking up the stairs, the pre-teen used her hands to keep her balance along the railings. Soon as she popped her head out and into the open hair, the free strands of her messy topknot went flying.

"Oh!" she cried out, only to blink a bit rapidly and try to tuck back the strands.

"Stupid hair," she muttered, color pinkening her cheeks again. There he was, standing on the helm and oh did her little heart ever start it's wild pitter patter in her chest. Myra swore Makai would be able to hear it too, surely had to, it was loud enough to thunder in her ears.

"So where we heading?" she asked, trying to keep the conversation going and to pretend that she wasn't eyeballing the half-galen like a Jawa spotting something shiny.

He couldn't hear Ellie's heart beating wildly, despite her belief. Amusement was on his face as he watched her cautiously move towards helm. His one hand remained casually on the wheel, although there was autopilot of sorts for the boat if he wanted. It felt good to focus on the open sea, if anything it was a distraction to keep from kissing Ellie once again.

"When did your hair get so long?" In reality, it had probably always been this long but he had never paid any real attention. Now that they both seemed to be paying a little more attention to one another...well..."Its nice."

"We're going to the Murul Trench. Dad has some buoys out there and he wants me to collect them and do a little poking around. After that we can sail around where you want, maybe visit an archipelago and get out and swim."

Makai reached out and took her hand, putting it on the wheel of the sailboat. Bare feet moved away from the helm just slightly and he let go of the steering. It was all up to Ellie now. He had all the confidence the world she would do fine navigating, besides, he was right next to her.

"So whats new in your life? What have I missed? Probably a lot, I hear your Ma is gearing up for a Southern Systems event again."

[member="Makai Dashiell"]

"Oh," instant hand coming up to run her fingers through the loose strands. What was it about him simply saying such things that made her head all loopy??

"Dunno just has for a long while now," she told him. Which was right. Her ma rarely ever cuts her hair, just gave her a trim now and then.

"Murul Trench?" rocking on her feet, the pre-teen went bounding up towards where Makai stood at the helm, only to have him take her hand and set it right on top of it.

"Gah!" she managed to squeak out. Oh dang it, did I really squeak like that? Mortification sent more blood to her face.

"Umm," a white knuckle grip ensued with Myra and the helm. Nope, not gonna let it go. She might mess it up.

"Sure you want me to hold this?" not answering his question. Wow, it was rather heavy, and with the wind blowing, she could feel how the tug pulled at the boat.

"And yeah... she is. The Annual Bazaar."

[member="Myra Elspeth"]

"Murul Trench, yeah. Its really deep and I've never bothered to swim down there obviously...no one can reach the bottom by free diving."

Stepping closer, he put his arm behind Ellie's back to reach over and help her with the wheel. He had full confidence in her and wasn't worried about going off course or crashing the sailboat. It was merely an excuse to be close to her without coming off as some needy creep.

"Of course, why couldn't you steer? I can always put on an autopilot of sorts too, helps when I'm out here by myself.Comes in handy."

"The Bazaar, right. I'll be there, haven't missed one since I was...what? Five years old." Wheel slowly turned, they were getting closer to the trench. Koa snored behind them, basking in the warm sunshine and stiff breeze. "You never answered me, you know. What have you been up to? How long are you staying?"

Considering the recent events in his life, Makai hoped she was staying longer than a few days. A distraction would be more than welcome in his life.

[member="Makai Dashiell"]

"Oh, well um." an anxious finger brushed her hair back away from her face. Myra was trying to split her attention from the helm, answering his question, and trying not to be caught staring at him.... all... standing there. Hair all ruffling in the breeze. Or noticing the way he stood and how his teeth seemed so white and his scales were such a bright --

A sudden clearing of her throat and Myra snapped her gaze forward off into the horizone. "Umm. Depends. How long are we gonna be sailing for?" maybe a week tops? Her ma wanted to take her back to the hospital again to get her monthly check up. Going back and forth to the hospital had always been a part of her life. It was an awkward thing, but she'd grown used to it. What took a bit of time was getting them to not have a dozen guards following her all the damn time.
