PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Saelis Tovan is a lean, athletic Kiffar woman whose physique reflects years spent traversing difficult terrain rather than formal military service. She carries herself with quiet confidence, every movement deliberate without appearing rigid or rehearsed.

Her warm olive complexion contrasts with long raven-black hair, usually tied into a loose braid or ponytail while working. Amber eyes flecked with gold constantly scan her surroundings, quietly observing details others often overlook. Distinctive dark qukuuf markings sweep across her face, identifying her Kiffar heritage while adding subtle character rather than dominating her appearance.

She favors practical frontier clothing over armor or uniforms. Durable field jackets, fitted shirts, reinforced trousers, sturdy boots, and weatherproof travel gear make up most of her wardrobe. Everything she owns is well cared for but visibly well used, reflecting years spent aboard ships, crossing wilderness, and exploring worlds far from home.

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

Saelis believes understanding should always come before judgment.

Naturally curious and patient, she prefers listening to speaking and observing to assuming. New cultures, unfamiliar worlds, and different ways of life genuinely fascinate her, and she approaches them with respect rather than preconceived opinions.

Her upbringing shaped two complementary sides of her personality. From her mother, a Kiffar Guardian, she inherited discipline, responsibility, and the belief that protecting others begins with preparation. From her father, a surveyor and cartographer, she inherited an endless curiosity about what lies beyond the next horizon.

Although Force-sensitive, Saelis has never considered herself a Jedi or sought broader Force training. Instead, she devoted herself entirely to understanding the single gift she naturally possessed: psychometry.

She keeps her promises, values honesty above convenience, and believes that people should be judged by their actions rather than their allegiances.

STRENGTHS

Master Psychometrist

Saelis possesses extraordinary mastery over psychometry, allowing her to perceive emotional echoes, fragmented memories, and lingering impressions from objects she touches. Decades of experience have given her remarkable control over this ability, making it her defining skill.

Surveyor & Cartographer

She excels at reading terrain, navigating unfamiliar environments, producing accurate maps, and recognizing when accepted information no longer reflects reality.

Explorer

Saelis adapts quickly to unfamiliar cultures and environments, remaining calm and resourceful even when operating far from civilization.

Pilot

An experienced pilot of survey vessels and light transports, she is comfortable spending weeks or months traveling independently.

Fieldcraft

Years of exploration have made her highly capable in survival, navigation, climbing, wilderness travel, and emergency medicine.

Observant

Whether relying upon psychometry or simple experience, Saelis notices details others often overlook.

WEAKNESSES

Extremely Narrow Force Training

Psychometry is effectively the only Force ability Saelis possesses. She cannot perform telekinesis, mind tricks, Force healing, or the countless abilities commonly associated with Jedi or Sith.

Psychometry Isn't Perfect

Objects don't always retain useful memories. Some reveal nothing at all, while others contain confusing, incomplete, or emotionally overwhelming impressions that require careful interpretation.

Independent

Saelis often carries burdens alone and is reluctant to ask others for assistance, even when doing so would make life easier.

Curiosity

She has an unfortunate tendency to investigate mysteries that common sense suggests she should simply leave alone.

Restless

Years of constant travel have made remaining in one place surprisingly difficult. Home has become more of a feeling than a location.

HISTORY

Saelis Tovan was born on Kiffu to an ordinary Kiffar family. Her mother served among the Kiffar Guardians, while her father worked as a surveyor and cartographer. Though both influenced her greatly, her father's profession captured her imagination. Long before she understood how maps worked, Saelis filled scraps of paper with childish drawings of familiar forests, winding trails, and imagined places beyond the horizon.

When she was six years old, she discovered she possessed the Kiffar gift of psychometry after playing with an old toy that had once belonged to her grandmother. Through it she experienced fragments of her grandmother's childhood—moments of laughter, warmth, and innocent happiness that no one had ever described to her. It was an experience that shaped the rest of her life. Rather than fearing the Force, Saelis came to see psychometry as another way history left traces behind.

While other Force-sensitive individuals sought broader training, Saelis devoted herself entirely to mastering that one gift. Over the years, she became an exceptional psychometrist, learning to distinguish emotional echoes from genuine memories and understanding that even the clearest vision rarely revealed an entire truth.

As she grew older, Saelis followed her father into surveying and cartography. She learned to navigate difficult terrain, update outdated maps, pilot survey craft, and assess unfamiliar environments. Her mother ensured she also learned practical self-defense, survival skills, and emergency response, preparing her for the realities of working far from civilization.

Her abilities eventually earned her a place on an offworld survey expedition intended to last only a few months. For the first time, she was selected because of her own accomplishments rather than her family or unusual gift.

The galaxy proved far larger and more fascinating than any map she had ever studied.

What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a life of exploration. Saelis now travels from world to world surveying remote regions, assisting expeditions, updating navigation data, and helping others better understand the places they hope to settle or explore. Though she has seen countless worlds, she still carries the small toy that first awakened her gift—a reminder that every place, every object, and every person has a story waiting to be discovered.
