OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: To create a multi-purpose repair and astromech droid

  • Canon Link: N/A

  • Primary Source: Astromech droid
PRODUCTION INFORMATION

  • Manufacturer: Slayn & Korpil

  • Affiliation: Open market

  • Model: S&K LGR&A-1 (Low Gravity Repair & Astromech Droid-1)

  • Production: Mass Produced

  • Modularity: High (Legs, repair tools, external plating, sensor systems)

  • Material: Durasteel, droid components
TECHNICAL INFORMATION

  • Classification: Second degree

  • Weight: 50kg

  • Length: 2 meters

  • Height: 0.7 meters

  • Movement: Six legs, thrusters for use in low gravity

  • Armaments: None but comes with an extremely low grade combat package for use against mynocks and other threats to the hull

  • Misc. Equipment: Standard astromech equipment, repair tools built into the legs, feet are magnetic, standard sensor suite, extensive repair database with suggested upgrades
SPECIAL FEATURES

  • High degree of reprogramming and upgrades available

  • Able to operate effectively in low gravity environments

  • Able to repair and upgrade ships

  • Can calculate hyperspace jumps and routes

  • Able to communicate in verpine and binary
Strengths:

  • Designed to repair and upgrade ships along with doing general maintenance

  • Is able to move easily across most terrain thanks to it’s numerous legs and thrusters

  • Easy to repair and upgrade thanks to it’s high degree of modular design

  • Thanks to the droids sticking out of the astromech pit in most starfighters it is able to access more of the craft for repairs
Weaknesses:

  • Only able to store 2 to 4 jumps depending on complexity

  • Transmitter is limited to only a few hundred meters

  • The droid is quite heavy

  • Because it is so long it isn’t able to fit fully into standard astromech pits so is way more exposed then most astromechs

  • Not hardened against EMP and ION damage to save costs
DESCRIPTION

With the need for repair droids the engineers at Slayn & Korpil decided to remake an old design. Taking heavily from the Hatchling Maintenance droid the design is able to operate in low gravity environments such as the hull of a ship where it is able to do repairs along with getting mynocks or other parasites off the ships hull. The droid is large however and is best employed on capital ships though it is possible to use them on starfighters. Thanks to it’s high degree of modularity the LGR&A-1 is able to adapt to most missions and has an extensive database on ship repair. The plating, tools, legs, and sensor systems can be replaced though thanks to this the droid cannot be hardened against EMP and ION weapons thanks to the circuitry needing to be as standard as possible to facilitate easy changes. The astromech portion is also a little underwhelming thanks to this most being added on when the engineers discovered they had enough spare processing power to install a secondary limited nav computer. This isn't helped by the limited range of the droids built in transmitter since it is designed to be operating aboard ship. This can become an issue when the droid is working in various roles planetside.
