And where were the spiders
There was something to be said for the Starchaser line. While the descendants of the ones who served in Palpatine’s order weren’t all that many, they definitely followed one trait for sure, and that was pride. It definitely didn’t miss Marek Starchaser either. He stepped from his commandeered Lone Scout. Really, it was becoming home, but he figured it was time to upgrade to something else. He liked something he could live in, but maybe it was time to set sights and land somewhere.

Following instinct, really, was what directed him here. He had heard through the galactic grapevine that this could be where he would find solace, and a place to learn. Exiting his craft, he had his pistol on one hip, a blade on the other, and strapped across his back was his rifle. Take it all, just in case. He didn’t have much, he did live in that ship, so it all meant something.

Right, so this was where he felt he needed to go? Now what? Looking back at his ship, he shrugged, taking what was obviously a lost path. He hated feeling lost, but with the Jedi hunting him down. “Great.”

Newcomers to the Roon sanctum weren’t a daily occurrence, so when a stranger requested clearance to land Kara, being the closest knight on hand, had been sent as a welcoming party. It wasn’t that they didn’t want anyone they didn’t know wandering they grounds, it was just that the Templars had managed to get their hands on some rather shiny trinkets since they’d been founded and weren’t about to let anyone else wander off with them.

“Can I help you?” She asked as the man meandered by where she’d stationed herself. He seemed a little lost, which wasn’t entirely surprising considering it had taken her a while to get her bearings. Usually people just managed to find their way off the landing pad before they started to lose track of where things were. When she’d first set the Like You Stole It down here Kara had spent the next hour just taking in the view.

The Sanctum was nestled in the mountains, between the ocean and a large pristine lake. The sky always held a glow that hinted at a coming sunset. That there were no sunsets or sunrises had taken some getting used to, and it was impossible to tell the time using the sky, but this was as close as she’d come to having a home outside of Kirima.

There were a few things that Marek hated, and chief among them were his cousin, and his holier than thou attitude with his fancy Force training and paramilitary standing. Really, what did his ship and his ‘wing-family’ accomplish? Not much, if Marek was to be honest. Plus, Marek just didn’t do the whole home thing. And look, he didn’t have any military background, but he was able to carry just as many weapons as anyone else, and land mostly where he wanted.

He still knew he wouldn’t get far wandering. This was a whole bit of a crapshoot, to come here unannounced? Good luck on that, Starchaser. Right, though, he knew someone would have to come here. Not like the Confederacy to leave a planet such as this unguarded. Hearing the voice, he turned, hand instinctively going to his hip. Right, he shouldn’t be doing that. Peering at the blonde, and doing his best to move only his eyes and not his full head when he gave her a once over, he nodded. “I bet you can.”

Really, now wasn’t the time for smart remarks, but he was a Starchaser, and that meant proud and a bit crass. Still, this world was something else. “So, I hear this is a place where people can become a bit more useful than they are on their own?” Really, he didn’t want to admit that this adventuring he as doing solo was not as fulfilling as it used to be.

Years of experience let Kara bury her annoyance at both the stranger’s leer and his rather suggestive response. This sort of behavior was acceptable behavior in bars where half the fun was getting attention, but not when trying to gain entry into someplace like the Templar Sanctum. Well, that why he was probably here. Maybe he’d mistaken them for a pleasure resort. The obvious lack of bikini clad females bearing umbrella laden drinks was sure to clue him straight eventually.

His next statement unfortunately indicated that he’d come to Roon knowing that they had a dearth of bikinis and tiny umbrellas. Damn, it looked like she would have to put up with his wandering eyes then. “If you’re asking if we produce illicit enhancement drugs, then no. That’s the mountainous castle perpetually stuck between night and sunrise.”

No one had expressly forbidden Kara from responding to vague inquiries with blatant sarcasm, so that was how she was going to respond until ordered otherwise. If she’d wanted to deal with the maddeningly unspecific she would have never left court, where she had been expressly forbidden from responding with blatant sarcasm. Twice. “This is the main sanctum of the Templar Order. If you are looking for training then maybe you’ve come to the right place.”

Marek knew why he was here, it called to him, on that primal level. The Force. That was what brought him here, but it didn’t mean he was going to immediately play nice with the locals. Probably a bad idea, no telling who he would offend. But really, if they wanted him to play nice send someone less attractive to be the first person he met on Roon. Sure, he could be crude, but once he had a target in mind, he was fine.

Some worlds were just less attractive than others. Not to say all worlds needed beaches, but it never hurt their cause. And the remaining worlds would just have to settle for the few gems buried among their ranks. Grinning with her answer, he nodded. “Nah, darlin’. Don’t need anything for enhancements. I’m fine the way I am.” And that was a loaded sentence, especially with Marek’s ego.

A gaze that looked her over before taking in the scenery and the unique state of the world, this was the place, was it? “Training, of course. Why else would I be here?” He wasn’t going to try to be too difficult. No telling what this Templar could do. Yes, he could sense enough to know that she could probably melt his brain, or something. “That’ll be the castle, huh?”

There were times that Kara lamented the fact that they hadn’t managed to build the landing pad over water. It would be so nice to be able to send puffed up newcomers into the drink to cool off. Dumping people off the side of a mountain was so much more fatal and mother was sure to disapprove of a representative of Kirima using diplomatic immunity for so petty as reason, especially since said representative was supposed to keep a low profile.

So, instead of doing anything violent or dramatic Kara summoned her most sparkly princess smile and made herself play nice. Half of life was dealing with people who saw singular attributes rather than people. If she couldn’t deal with this joker then she’d never be a good queen. “I’m sure you are.”

Focusing on the reason he’d decided to grace this planet with his presence was much easier to deal with than the innuendo. There was a set bureaucratic routine that everyone went through when joining, and if there was anything she was go at, it was bureaucratic routines. “Follow me then. You’ll need to submit a few samples before we allow you access to the facilities. Nothing too extensive: figure prints, eye and facial scans for a background check. Then we’ll need to test your midi-chlorian level. Once that’s done you will be assigned quarters.”

Maybe some day he’d learn humility. When he calmed down and learned his place in the galactic scheme of things. That’d be the day, now wouldn’t it? Marek would be more than thankful for the placement of the landing pad, had he been able to read the blonde’s thoughts. Granted, he wasn’t afraid of the water, which was one place he thrived, after learning the survival techniques from his parents. But really, who couldn’t help but strive to make a tropical paradise somewhere they could always be safe?

But this was Marek, he pushed people. He wanted to understand how they worked, and what their boiling points were. How far could he push and prod until someone just snapped? In his life, it was really the only way to work it, figure out where he could go, and what he could do without getting attacked. Lucky for him he had a strong understanding on a variety of weapons and combat techniques. Grinning to her, he tipped his head to the side and shrugged, equal parts dismissal and acceptance of her sarcasm.

If he was going to show her his skills ever, he’d need a whole new tactical game.

“Lead on, Princess.” He smirked. That only made sense. Idly he was curious what worlds had biometric records on him, and what the group here would turn him away for. Adjusting his rifle on his back, he nodded after he gave a glance back to his ship. He’d come back out for the Lone Scout soon. Once they started to walk he spoke again. “How long’ve you been here?”

From what Kara understood, there were few grown women who enjoyed being called princess by sarcastic men who didn’t care to put an ounce of respect behind the title. That same situation when the man in question didn’t realize that he was actually addressing a princess was about twice as annoying. Or so she assumed, it wasn’t like she knew what it was like to be called princess while not actually being one.

“Knight Avoyos, if you please.” Formality was an effective barrier between a person and the nearly uncontrollable urge to commit acts of violence. Her mother, the master politician that she was, could make please and sir sound like insults equal to anything the roughest spacer could utter. While the princess’s years spent living among spacers had made her more likely to use actual profanities, she was still perfectly able to pull of chillingly polite.

“I was recruited nearly three years ago.” She’d changed a lot since then. The restless teenager who had hated the idea of responsibility was slowly turning into someone that resembled a functioning adult. Stars, maybe one day she would make a half-decent queen for Kirima. Hopefully no time soon, Kara still had plenty of wanderlust to burn off.
