Roy first got his augmentations in the time he was on the Nar Shadda Security Force. However, they weren't nearly to the extent they are now. Before it just some augmentation to his brain and life support. Which how he managed to survive getting mow down by a firing squad. It wasn't until shortly after that he managed to get stabilized again from black market mechanics. Turning most of this body mechanical. It's important to know that he still has a functional "circulatory system". Allowing blood to flow through the remaining organs in his torso to what's left of his brain. All his limbs are 100% machine. After going through such transformations he gave himself some "upgrades".
Most of these "upgrades" were added on by Roy himself. The first being his enhanced physical abilities, such as his strength, reflexes, and durability. After that Roy took the time to weaponize his augmentations. First off was to grant himself to the ability to turn his forearms and hands into blasters. Second was by allowing mechanical claws/spikes to shoot out and protrude from his knuckles with an electro-plasma energy filament running along the edge of the sharpened blade, giving it far better cutting power and allowing it to block lightsabers. As well as some other weapons and gadgets to aid with offense, movement which functionally turned him into a walking talking weapon. Another function of his is the ability to give his body a vaccume seal. Meaning that he could comfortably survive in space for a little while.
