Private Rooted in the Living Current

Seo couldn't help but laugh as Ahlean enthusiastically claimed Lou for herself. The little girl marched toward the front door with absolute confidence, dragging the bewildered Padawan behind her as though this had been the plan all along. Eimhear and Clar hurried after them, each eager to be the first to introduce their unexpected guest, while Seo followed at a far more leisurely pace, thoroughly amused by the expression Lou sent back over his shoulder. The silent plea for rescue earned only a sympathetic smile and the slightest shrug. "You'll survive," she called after him, unable to suppress the laughter in her voice. "She's decided you're family for the evening."

Before they reached the doorway, another figure stepped outside. A young man, perhaps sixteen, paused on the porch as the commotion reached him. He stood noticeably taller than Seo now, with brown hair catching the afternoon sun and the same warm golden eyes that had greeted Lou throughout the day. There was an easy confidence about him, tempered by kindness rather than bravado. His attention settled first on the trio of excited girls, then on the unfamiliar young man they were escorting toward the house.

"Mama's inside," he said with an easy smile before offering Lou a respectful inclination of his head. "I'm Aodhan Linn. Be welcome, stranger." His gaze shifted to Seo, and his smile broadened immediately. "You're finally home." He crossed the remaining distance without hesitation, wrapping his mother in a warm embrace. The years had quietly overtaken her; he now stood several inches taller, and she found herself looking slightly upward as she returned the hug. She laughed softly, giving his back an affectionate pat. "You're still growing," she observed. "At this rate you'll have to duck just to come through the front door." Aodhan chuckled. "Grandfather says the same thing every week."

By the time Seo and Aodhan stepped inside, the younger girls had already announced their arrival to the entire household. The cozy sandstone home echoed with excited voices as Ahlean proudly declared she'd "found" Lou, while Clar attempted to explain the story with considerably more detail, only to be interrupted repeatedly by Eimhear's corrections. The welcoming scent of fresh bread, roasted vegetables, slow-cooked meat, and fragrant herbs drifted from the kitchen, wrapping the home in a warmth that seemed to erase the desert beyond its walls. Laughter answered the girls' enthusiastic introductions before Lou even had the chance to properly introduce himself.

Seo slipped out of her boots near the entrance and smiled at the familiar scene. Nothing had changed. Her father would undoubtedly emerge from another room, curious about the commotion; her mother would greet everyone with the effortless hospitality that had become second nature after years of welcoming travelers and neighbors alike; and her sisters would spend the next hour asking Lou enough questions to rival an interrogation. She glanced toward the young Padawan with quiet reassurance, knowing how nervous he had been only minutes earlier.

"Welcome home for the evening, Lou," she said gently. "I have a feeling my family has already decided you're staying."
