Corazona von Ascania

HISTORY
Born to simple farmers, Roberd had little in the way of prospects. For generations, the Courbis family had farmed the same plot of land, which was owned by the von Layris family and was sworn to their service. Of course, like most boys growing up in the countryside, Roberd grew up with tales of Knights and Princesses, great heroes battling vile beasts and foul villains to keep safe the people of fair Ukatis. Formative years practicing with sticks and wooden armor led to Roberd developing a deep passion for sword play, even if owning a blade of quality was simply not within the bounds of reality for one such as him. For a time, Roberd had resigned himself to a life in the dirt, planting and harvesting instead of riding into honorable battle.
That was until his 15th name day.
Varco von Layris, petulant son of Baron Marcco, was always known as a bully and a drunkard. Often, he would ride out into his father's domain to flex his power over the common folk, and they were happy to serve his every whim if it meant keeping his anger at bay. But one could only delay such an outburst for so long, for one night of drunken revelry led to Varco nearly beating a poor man to death for the supposed crime of disrepecting the lordling by failing to serve his desired liquor fast enough. That man might verywell have died in the mud if there hadn't been a brave, stupid boy around to charge Varco and knock him into the mud. While Roberd had no chance of defeating the nobleman, he refused to yield to his better and stood tall, even as Varco attempted to draw his blade. Luckily for Roberd, Baron Marcco himself had come to retrieve his petulant spawn, and instead of removing the boy's hand for daring to strike a noble, he chose something else entirely.
Roberd would leave his home, but it was not the apparent punishment he believed, for he was to squire under the Baron's older son, Baleon von Layris, and perhaps one day see himself elevated to Knighthood. Baleon was a harsh teacher, strong and quick to correct with a slap, but he proved to be honorable and strong of character. He taught Roberd what it really meant to be a Knight of Ukatis, to serve the common folk, to uphold the traditions of the homeworld in the face of enemies both at home and from off-world. In times of peace, Baleon and Roberd would often take part in tournaments across Ukatis. Displays of swordmanship and jousting resulted in as many victories as defeats for the Baron's son, but Squire Roberd learned well from his master and, upon his 19th name day, he was at last knighted by his master and allowed to join a tournament himself.
He was defeated. In fact, he lost all three of his duals and the joust he entered on a whim.
But he learned. Every bruise was a reminder that he could be better.
In the following decades, Roberd Courbis became known as one of the greatest natural dualists on Ukatis, his skill with a blade and lance nearly unmatched, even by the great Counts and Dukes of the realm. Though he had no land to his name and had not taken a wife, Roberd proved himself a beacon of chivalry and honor. He often traveled the lands, going to the rural villages and towns to aid them in whatever way he could. When Ukatis faced invasion, Roberd would be on the frontlines, in service to this Count or that in defense of his people. Despite his age, the Knight appeared to have lost none of his edge as he continued to win jousts and tournaments at the age he should have retired to a countryside estate. Instead, he was eventually invited to join the personal guard of King Horace, a mistake that would see him disgraced and dishonored.
Horace was a greedy, drunkard of a King, revelingin the pleasures of palace life while largely leaving the rulership of his people to stewards and lackies who would ensure he was never troubled by the needs of the common folk. Distaste soon turned to disgust, for Roberd could only stand aside and watch the King gorge while Ukatis would never obtain true glory.
Then came
Marcel von Ascania
. Bold and seemingly a decade younger, Marcel's energy and drive were a glorious sight. He spoke of past glories reclaimed, she spoke of Ukatis achieving true significance in the galaxy, free from the yoke of King Horace and the Galactic Alliance. It would be an honorable rebellion to free Ukatis and install a strong King.
Roberd knew it was wrong. He knew he should hold to his oath.
Instead, he cast aside his honor and joined the rebels. He marched with them to the capital and killed his fellow Ukatins, realizing all too late that Marcel had been a mere pawn of a Sith Lord. Roberd's King, though he be a userper, had promoted him to a Viscount, thinking it would disguise the man's descent into madness at the hands of a monstrous Sith Lord. In the end they were so close, the throne was in their grasp-
Then Marcel died. Killed at the hands of his own daughter. The spell was broken, and Roberd was overwhelmed with shame.
The rebels were driven to rout by the loyalists and the Jedi, Roberd blindly falling in with the remaining rebel lords as they went into hiding. He did not remain with them for long, stripping away his ornate armor and cloak, tossing his orante vibroblade to the ground, and beginning his exile from his homeworld.
He had lost his honor. He had lost his home. The stories they would tell of Roberd would be of a traitor, nothing more.

APPEARANCE
Despite it all, Roberd remains a Knight. Tall and strong, his white hair cut short and matched by a beard, Roberd has lost his gleaming armor and now takes to tattered robes and a cloak to hide his face. His pale blue eyes hold endless regret and shame, but his face remains kind despite the great tragedy he brought upon himself.

PERSONALITY
Perhaps the word that best describes Roberd is stoic, for he is a Knight pulled from the old tales. Brave in the face of danger, compassionate to the weak and defenseless, Roberd has always believed himself a force for good. Following his treason, the old knight has become jaded, a man once filled with joy and laughter now grows silent in his solitude. Though a traitor to his people, Roberd will still hold to his oath and defend those in need, especially the people of Ukatis
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
+Cut through you like cutting cake: Even at his age, Roberd remains perhaps one of the greatest swordsmen ever produced by Ukatis. He is most at home in a duel with a blade in his hand.
+Bold: Brave to a fault, Roberd is often the first into battle and the first to volunteer for missions deemed near suicidal for most.
+Decades of Service: Years spent as a servant to Ukatis, Roberd has become a rather proficient tactician and strategist, even if he would prefer to lead from the front.
-Accursed Traitor: Once hero to the people of Ukatis, Roberd is not forced into exile by his own treachery. Feared and hated by his people, Roberd can never return home nor expect anything but contempt from his people.
-Honorable Fool: Bravery aside, Roberd has been blinded by his oaths and traditions in the past and is likely to fall victim to the same fate again.
-Slave of the Sith: Though only for a short time, an alliance with the Sith has left Roberd forever changed, touched by the Dark Side and forever in its grasp.
