  • Intent: To make a versatile explosive substance
  • Canon Link: n/a
  • Permissions: n/a
  • Primary Source: n/a

  • Manufacturer:
    • Custom recipe created by Hex
  • Affiliation:
    • Hex
    • Darkwire - only for characters who would reasonably have friendly contact with Hex's Darkwire cell
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: n/a
  • Modularity: By default it is blue and peppermint flavour, but it can be flavoured or coloured using various inert food additives
  • Production: Limited
  • Material:

  • Classification: Mastication activated chemical explosive
  • Size: Small
  • Weight: Light
  • Explosive Type: Chemical
  • Delivery Method:
    • Placed
    • Can theoretically be thrown but too light for effective use
  • Effective Range: Pinpoint
  • Area Of Effect: Personal
  • Damage Output: Damage output dependent on level of hydration time through mastication.
    • Low - around 6 seconds
    • Average - around 12 seconds
    • High - around 18 seconds
    • Very High - around 24 seconds
  • Method of Consumption: Chewed orally
  • Average Life: Will start to dry out slowly once removed from source of hydration will completely dry out rendering it inert in about thirty minutes per five seconds of chewing. Can then be chewed again but will be much harder and less pleasant
  • Nutritional Value/Allergies/Side Effects/ Purpose:
    • Around 15 bioavailable calories per stick
    • Despite flavourings it tends to have a mildly metallic taste
    • Excessive consumption can produce a laxative effect
    • Excessive consumption can cause oral and esophageal ulceration
    • Swallowing can cause severe stomach upset and painful inflamation of the digestive tract - recommend seeking immediate medical attention

  • A gum that comes is conveniently paper wrapped strips and looks like regular chewing gum.
  • Small amounts of stabilised Iadrium provides the explosive charge. This is held deactivated by a water sensitive decellerant.
  • The product is activated by adding moisture and massaging the gum thoroughly. By far the most efficient way to do this is to chew it.
  • The stabilisers keep the activated Iadrium from premature detonation, requiring some form of intense heat from a detonator cord or spark detonator to ignite.
  • Yield depends on roughly how long it is chewed. A quick chew will provide an effective high temperature Incendiary, the longer it is chewed the faster the Iadrium will detonate and any longer than about 18 seconds would class the product as an explosive rather than an Incendiary.
  • Multiple pieces can be chewed at once but working out the additional chew time is anything from 50% to 100% extra per additional stick.
  • The paper that the gum is wrapped in contains a thin strip woven with magnesium that fan be used as a fuse for the explosive once it has been activated

  • Discrete: To most observers, this product looks and tastes like chewing gum, it can even safely be chewed if inspected making it useful for clandestine situations.
  • Variable yield: While it is an inexact method of setting the detonation type, being able to choose between a high temperature Incendiary and an explosive effect is very useful.
  • Malleable: When moist, the gum is very malleable and easy to shape as wished allowing it to be used in a variety of creative ways.
  • Stable when inactive: Without moisture, the mixture of stabilisers and accelerants makes it near impossible to accidentally trigger the explosive
Untitled38_20220418222607.png

  • Mildly toxic: Using it appropriately now and again is unlikely to cause any problems, but it does contain several unpleasant chemicals so using it too frequently or swallowing it will have nasty results.
  • Inexact mixing: The timings are a guide but when factoring in chewing style, saliva production or just general time keeping, it is very inexact and it is always a risk that the detonation will be more or less energetic than planned.
  • Poor choice for combat: The difficulty in throwing a piece of chewing gum with a detonator attached should be self evident, the chances of hitting the target or keeping the detonator in place is small enough that it limits the product to use as a placed charge.
  • Small blast area: The product contains no compression and is only as shaped as you can squash a piece of chewing gum with your fingers, limiting it's blast radius to only a couple of metres at best. Enough to blow off a door, or take out a small speeder and it's occupants, but not enough to be considered for anti-personnel or mass destructive use.
  • Requires a detonator: The product is deliberately quite stable and as such requires a high temperature detonator to trigger the explosive either in the form of a detonator strip, blasting cap or an electrical detonator.

"Iadrium putty burns my mouth and tastes disgusting" are not words that most teenagers have uttered, but Hex is notice most teenagers.

Upon chewing the Iadrium putty from her Party Poppers for the last time, Hex happened upon a brain wave and decided to make a new putty from the ground up, using the list of ingredients on the back of her favourite chewing gum, mixed with a few non-listed ingredients that she had in her wardrobe from other projects. It took a couple of attempts to perfect the quantities including an incident where she needed to briefly be treated for chemical gastroenteritis, but now it is "perfect".

The gum looks inert and harmless, it can even be chewed if someone asks, and the flavourings mask the worst of the chemical taste. Hex herself likes peppermint, but does keep the artificial flavours minimal as if it tastes too good she might forget what she is actually chewing. It is great for use as an Incendiary, burning almost as hot as thermite if the timing is done right, capable of melting through metal components.

Further chewing can turn the gum into an effective explosive, while not as powerful as a thermal detonator or similar, it has more than enough punch to cause significant damage to a target.
