Rise of the Jedispawn

At first Mantic listened -skepticism shadowing his features. He crossed his arms and tried to break his mental barrier he had against accepting this form of the force. If there was truly light in these powers he could be wrong. Perhaps this is what is needed to counter the sith's tricks. The force knows how many times he had faced, Vong creatures, mutated sith lords or other beings conjured directly from the dark side.

He had managed to survive it al, but not without great effort and often at the cost of not being able to accomplish any real good on the field of battle due to him being occupied with these abominations.

He leaned slightly forward as [member="Phylis Alince"] explained that she would demonstrate an ability of the grand masters sword. the light blinded him for a moment and he staggered backwards unprepared for what came from the demonstration. Pushing a coffee table positioned slightly behind him a cup was stirred and quickly sensed an opportunity to escape toward the edges of the table. It rolled with an eagerness resembling the expression of a toddler who just realized its parents had left the front door open and the world was out there for the taking....

It tipped over the edge and rushed toward its freedom and inevitable destruction.
Had it not been for Mantics rapid reaction.

He slowly raised his hand replacing the cup silently on the table making sure it was again steady.

Then he straightened his robes with a firm expression hoping that no one had noticed his little embarrassing escapade in the background of the assembled.

He was concerned by what [member="Shmi Labooda"] said. It was something he taught himself, that even though it is done with good intentions, every step bending the rules always ends up with the darkness growing.
At least so far...

Phylis’ gaze travelled the room. She felt their scepticism, their disquiet, a mood voiced by the young lady with the blonde hair. Phylis had a list of all the guests, had never met this girl, but knew who this was, if only by deduction.
Though Phylis was not the most perceptive of people regarding emotions, she did sense something in the girl, a rather hasty qualification. Curious.

“Ms Ibaris, yes?” she asked, nodding to her. “To answer your question; I will not know until I try. However, I feel it will not be painful for the creature undergoing it. The Dark Side is corruption, it is taint, it twists and destroys all it touches. My goal is not to make a Crysalide Rancor or a Monolith. I do not want to make an army of conquest, I want to give knowledge and protection. The Force is my ally, but I know well that I must not become complacent.”
It was an open question whether fate, or the Force, would be kind to her for such noble pronouncements.

Reaching beneath the bench she produced a cage in which a rodent like creature was sitting. It looked up at her blankly and went back to preening itself.

“My objective is to infuse this creature with the Light to increase its intelligence, resilience and longevity. I ask any Jedi here assembled to come forward and assist if you are skilled in Force Light, Art of the Small or healing. I will need your assistance for this first time.”

Nina observed the others as they joined them, quietly as always. She remained close to her mother and brother, the latter of whom had instantly taken a liking to the weapon on display. She didn't like it; knowing what it was used for made it difficult to appreciate its beautiful design and exquisite craftmanship. Her hand reached for Théo's. "Don't touch it," she told him before he could even think about doing so. She knew him too well to trust him not to something stupid.

Listening closely to what the adults were saying, Nina couldn't help but feel a bit... useless, for lack of a better word. She couldn't think of anything to say or do, and even if she did there was no way of making her opinion known. You know, other than invading people's minds using telepathy. It didn't feel right doing so on complete strangers - there was no way of knowing how they'd react. No, instead she remained the quiet onlooker she'd always been, focusing more on making sure Théo didn't get himself in trouble for trying to touch someone's lightsaber.

[member="Phylis Alince"] | [member="Coci Heavenshield"]

Dawnbringer? Now that won his heart which would be clear by the growing smile on his face. When Master Alince demonstrated further the deal was done! And he wanted to know who this [member="Corvus Raaf"] person was, he or she sounded like a kindred spirit to Théo and he knew of the Jedi Order and that there is more than one grand master besides his father, but that was all he knew. He had moved forward, just a little, but not to go touch it, more to get a closer look. But .. the voice of Nina flooded his mind, his voice of reason, but boy is she over protective. A firm grip on his hand stopped him. "I am not going to touch it, just look at it". He replied to her with a slight annoyance, even shot her a glance that would reflect as much, but she knew him all too well.

Yeah I am going to go and mess with a sword with all these Jedi in the room, not to mention mother! His own thoughts to himself.

Looking around Théo did a double take when he spotted a Padawan he had met before, Audren with white hair as white as Nina's. He seemed to be becoming surrounded with people of white hair of late, as beautiful as they are he wondered if they lacked something.

Things started to become even more exciting when a rodent was produced, and more questions asked which he did not understand of them, but this is a learning experience for him, to watch and observe. And so he remained by Nina's side, especially after Mama had moved forward and indicated for them both to remain.

Her eyes narrowed with a slight raise to the eyebrow, a symbol indeed. Coci would have thought that fighting for freedom and justice would have been enough to rally any Jedi, was not the Jedi Order symbol of the Rising Phoenix enough? Well each to their own she supposed. Unsheathing the Dawnbringer once more, Phylis showed them it's full power. The lightside of the force welling up in the master and through the blade to the wall. As impressive as it was, it still had limitations, that of the person wielding it needed to have the ability to funnel the force this way, and even if they did their level of ability would still effect it. And how long would one be able to continue to produce this flow of the force through the blade? Although it had a long range, the lightsaber would still produce the same effect.

"This is an extraordinary feat to be able to produce this effect on the blade", which she acknowledge as fact, but it is very hard to impress Coci. "I would be more impressed if this sword could do something a saber cannot, and that is .. could you hone this sword's blade to cut, Cortosis or Phrik for example. If this sword uses the pure energy from the force, would this not be possible?". It would be pure energy of the lightside that could only do this as far as she is aware of the technology these days.

A rodent sat in a cage, nose twitching and looking around with curiosity. Coci turned to the children and held her hand up to indicate to remain where they are for the time being, giving Théo in particular a fixed looked. Another Jedi in the room had asked a question which would place doubt in the minds of some. Coci removed the rodent from the cage and let it sit in the palm of her hand and caressed the back of it's head with her finger, and let the force flow through her to calm the small creature. She has an affinity with rodents, as odd as that is, her alias as a Jedi Shadow is Creimire which in old language of Corellia, means rodent. "Does this rodent need to be awake for this?", it would very easy for Coci to have the creature sleep deeply throughout the experience.

The skills that Phylis requires, Coci has and some.

Having stayed out of the conversation until now Mantic decided it was time to get involved. Straightening his back he took a step forward in response to [member="Phylis Alince"] s request.

"While I am open to discuss this venture I am not comfortable with altering a living being even if the purpose is for the greater good." he had a hoarse was and stopped to clear it before continuing.

"I am Mantic Dorn of the Galactic Republic and I must confess, I am not the first person to approach when it comes bending the rules. I believe most in this room has seen outcome of such noble but less restricted undertakings in the past. We must first and foremost secure that such a rite is contained and monitored by outsiders to track any signs of corruption in the animal or ourselves. both during the rite and in the aftermath."

He turned toward [member="Coci Heavenshield"] and made a short bow.

"Master Heavenshield's of the silvers idea to use this to imbue a weapon with more power is indeed much more appealing to me. But I would like to contradict the usage of physical swords. Why not focus on using the power to refine force crystals. Surely the lightsaber is still the best choice to be modified, it is after all a weapon that in its nature is closely affiliated with the force." he smoothed his robe and collected his thoughts.

"But the art of light alchemy is not my area of expertise and I might be wrong."

Mantic was half way guessing how to forward his thoughts so that it had some sort of impact. He could not shake of the feeling that this could turn into something very wrong. With the siths constant intrigues who could say that their evil tentacles had not reached inside this room as well. He took a deep breath and centered his mind. It was impossible to live and constantly watch over ones shoulder, but when it came to something important as this he decided it was best to keep it in mind.

Phylis could not contain a ‘Hmmph’ at this. She had, in just five years, created a Light Side version of Sith Alchemy and forged a sword equal to any which had been designed in the past 20,000. And yet they were not impressed?
‘When you have made something better I will accept your critique’ she thought, and almost said.

However, she was not here to lecture or indulge her ego, however tempting it was.

“Hmmph, I will remind you that this is my first Alkahest infused blade. I am not sure what can be done in the future. As for crystals I have done this, yes. However, physical blades form an easier conduit for the transference of Force energy. The Sith know this, and I have to agree with them on that point. The advantages of the physical blade is its ability to become a channel and storage, but its weakness is the weight and awkwardness. Nothing comes without sacrifice.”

Having spent more time defending her art than she had wished, and feeling rather less appreciated than she’d have liked, she turned to Mantic Dorn.

“As for altering a living being, I understand your concerns. However, we as Jedi practice it all the time, as does the rest of the galaxy. Any time we use the Force to heal we are altering beings. I can only say what my studies predict on this.”

“Master Heavenshield, if you will help the patient sleep it will assist me.”

With this done and the rat adorably sleeping, Phylis withdrew the rodent and placed it on the counter. Putting aside her concerns she focused on the Force, centring herself.

Reaching out her hand to the small rodent she called on the Force first to heal and soothe the creature, and then used her powers to look deeper, to delve into the small animal. There she could see how its lifeforce merged with the living Force, could feel its heartbeat and breath.

Then she called upon the Force again, using the Light to enter the creature’s body and bind with its cells. In this way she poured more and more of herself into the rat, binding its cells with the Light Side whilst she sought to not change the creature unduly.

Finally, the task was done and she slumped forward slightly, out of breath and a little drained. With her being the only one assisting the amount of power required had taken its toll.

As she leaned on the bench, breathing heavily, the rat opened its eyes. Little sparks of gold could be seen in its eyes, but it looked quite unharmed as it scurried over to its feedlot and nibbled on some pellets.

“It’s done…” Phylis said softly. The creature had a definite Light aura now.

Tiland had been watching and listening. It was not his role to be involved in such things or discussions. No, his was to restore to life those who were weary or suffering and protect through non-lethal means those who were injured or weary. While the display of things going on was certainly interesting, it was not such a concern for him. After Phylis had done her thing with the rat, Tiland drifted forward through the crowd, carrying a steaming cup of tea.

"Drink this now," He said softly, handing it to her, and setting a hand on her shoulder. He centered himself in the Force, letting it flow through him, revitalizing himself, and then sent that into Phylis. It should restore her and repair any damage the act may have done to her. "Anything hurt?" He asked after a moment. He couldn't sense anything more, but there was always a chance something strange had happened. One could never be too careful.

After the rodent had been sedated and would not feel anything during the what Phylis would do, Coci stood back to give her room to work. She watched, and sensed the force pull in around the master jedi before filling the small creature with lightside elements. As the magic continue, Coci could feel the rodent stir in the mind, it intelligence increased, thought patterns altered and it's body became stronger.

Coci, due to her job, can be blunt and cold and yes it takes a lot to impress her. Moreover, she had come to this meeting and workshop in order to find out what other Jedi are doing, sometimes you have to 'keep an eye on' those closest to you, to make sure they are not delving into something that not only would be considered, 'unnatural' in the yes of other Jedi but that they have best intentions in the process. Master Phylis Alince is a power Jedi, that much was clear when in the Republic and the Jedi Order, but now she had grown even more so over the years. Her study into this new facet of the force, the lightside of the force is nothing short of impressive.

When the Master Jedi sat depleted, Coci moved to her and place her hand on the woman's shoulder. The lightside of the force funneling through Coci into Phylis to help restore her energy and power. With soft words, "Now that was impressive", she said with genuine admiration.

Audren stayed silent as the others spoke. He was by no means a powerful healer, and while he'd heard of Art of the Small and Force Light - and seen a powerful demonstration of the latter - had absolutely no experience with either of them. So he stayed put and watched. And listened, the questions posed to the Jedi Master conducting the session were useful. Master Heavenshield's about the metal blade versus lightsaber blade he didn't much care about, as he had a tendency to carry both, but cutting phrik or cortosis was an interesting option. He hadn't been aware that Sith alchemy caused pain for the living creatures it was used on - it made sense, he'd just never thought about it - and Mantic Dorn's concerns were logical. Personally, the Sephi disagreed with them, being under the impression that the Force itself wouldn't allow darkness. If Master Alince were to truly use the Light Side of the Force, there would be no corruption. That said, putting safeguards in play to verify would mitigate Dorn's concerns in the matter, and they were already here. Those not taking part in the alchemy would no doubt be watching through the Force.

Master Alince clearly did not agree.

A 'hmmph' was heard just before she launched into an explanation. That Dawnbringer was the first alkahest blade she'd forged put a certain perspective on things and opened up avenues. Coming from the route that Dawnbringer was the pinnacle of her creations put so many limits on things, but the other direction opened up a myriad of opportunities. The crystals as well, though he'd have to test for himself whether the physical blades truly held the properties she claimed. Her explanation began to sound defensive, but she ended it before it became overly-so and began the procedure.

The rodent was put to sleep courtesy of Coci, then placed on a counter. If Audren had thought the room suffused with Force power before, he was proven wrong as the lady centered herself and began. For his part, Audren 'watched' the rat through the Force in an attempt to see what was happening to it. Healing energies were the first to be sensed, then something more. What little he could determine suggested she'd essentially pushed light-side power into the rodent and bonded it to the cells. Doing so tired the Master considerably, which was something to keep in mind. Its eyes now had more of a golden hue than before, but it seemed normal. Through it all, Audren sensed no corruption in the rat, during or after the operation. Besides the change in the eyes however, there was no other apparent physical change.

The method used brought some questions to mind for the Padawan. He was by no means an expert, but he'd heard the basic information that midichlorians were what allowed beings access to the Force. How many there were per cell directly contributed to available Force power.

"Audren Sykes. If I may, Master Alince, two questions. First, will the Light Side present in the rodent fade over time? Basic midichlorian research shows that the number of them directly affects connection to the Force, yet the rat now has an obviously stronger aura. Were there or will there be more midichlorians generated as a result of what you did? And secondly, this obviously took a fair bit out of you. Would one be able to draw or focus Force power freely given to lessen the effect on all involved?"

Maybe he was just showing his inexperience with the subject, but the questions made sense to him.

Myra'di sat dumbfounded. There was little, to no, physical change on the rodent. But she felt that it was different. She knew in her being that the rodent was changed. She knew not how, exactly, as that level of Force manipulation was still beyond her, so far beyond. But by god she was going to learn. The blond padawan asked questions as she thought along the same lines. She would offer a faint smirk, content to remain observing. Why waste the effort of social interaction, when others are willing to do it for you to get the same results you desired?

He felt a little bit off in the midst of it all. Clearly, this was not a lecture, nor a discussion but rather an execution of the rite.

Mantic blamed himself for not being more prepared but as it all commenced he refocused his inner self toward the patterns that were being molded in the room.
The rodent was as everything else part of the web that formed the force.

He knew his own doubts about the right were dangerous and so he made an effort not to tangle himself with the more central aspects of the transformation.
Instead he maintained a sort of supportive role in the outskirts of the rite.
As the web was reformed at the heart of the rite Mantic made sure to mend those bright threads that were stretched in the perimeter. It was not crucial for the transformation itself but it could help against the dark to find ways into the rodent and in the long run cause corruption.

At least, that was Mantics intention.

Phylis gratefully accepted the concoction from Tiland.
“No, nothing hurt, just a little strained. Thank you.”
She offered a smile at Coci, glad she had managed to convince one person of her talents.

The young Padawan who looked a lot like an Eldorai…but probably was not…spoke.
“Hmm, I am not sure if the connection will fade. I have bound the Light into the creature, merged its cells with the Force. It is probable that it may fade over time as my control is imperfect this time, but it will not be for years yet. As for the second, yes, it is always my preferred option to borrow power from those around me if they give it freely. I created Dawnbringer with the aid of Corvus and Taeli Raaf, allowing me to forge it without becoming exhausted.”

Phylis gently picked up the small rodent. It didn’t seem afraid, but looked at her with more knowledge and intelligence than a normal rat.
“I shall have to see, but I feel I have made it a little smarter and a little tougher. It’s not a warbeast or even a familiar, but it is a start….”

"Even on this small scale, you have done something extraordinary. I must confess I was skeptical but I see now this is a rare and powerful skill". Coci moved back toward her children and stood beside them, taking their hands once more. Théo and Nina had expressed interesting in this skill, to learn it from a master with ability, but now was not the time to speak of it, that would be done in private.

"What is it that you require of us .. of me to be able to progress this further?", she posed the question on behalf of herself and her children, the others are here to address this with their own words. This meeting was only just the beginning of something far more important, Coci understood that much now.

Mantic removed himself from the web, slowly detaching the threads from himself. He had sensed nothing but light.
And he was astounded.

With jaws dropped he looked at the animal carefully taking a few steps forward.

"I... I..." he stammered [member="Phylis Alince"] "... I must commend your ability."

"I still believe that we need to study this over time, but this result is widely above what I had expected." he inclined his head to the master.

The firrerreo stood up and strode across the room, kneeling down to be eye-level with the rodent in [member="Phylis Alince"]'s hands.

"Warbeast you sure aren't." She said, with a smile, as she gently stroked the creatures head, "but the potential applications of such powers are only limited by our imaginations, I believe." Standing upright, golden eyes burning with purpose, she maintained her smile as she addressed the Master. "Limited as my abilities are, I am at your service as needed in your endeavors here."

Stating her offer to aid Master Alince, the firrerreo moved off to a seat towards the outer edge of the room, resuming her observations. She was pleased with herself. She managed to engage a social exchange without managing to, intentionally or not, insult anyone.

Feeling much better now she had recovered somewhat, and that the Jedi present had recognised her work. She nodded.

“Thank you, my friends. This is just the beginning, but for now I will reflect more. My next goal for today is to teach whichever of you wish to know how to use Alkahest yourselves. It’s not an easy jump, but I think I can guide most of you through it. That will allow me to recover my energy so we might study our Jedispawn here closer.”

Jedispawn…an amusing name to be sure. “Hmm, well, I actually think his name is Nibbles. Nibbles the Jedispawn! Look out, Sith, there’s a new power in the galaxy!” she said.
Nibbles, as demanded by the circumstances, had curled up and gone to sleep.
“Hmmph, might need a raincheck on his glorious crusade,” she added jokingly.

For the entire process, she watched and 'watched' very carefully, feeling the way the Force worked in this, seeing the rat as he was worked on. It felt like Adas, but not. Not as refined, not as complex, but it was there. This was the vague representation of what her longtime canine companion would be, had he been fashioned with the Light, but back then there were no keen experimenters. Fifteen years ago was a very different time, a simpler time, a warmer time. Thoughts for people far older than she.

"Consider me interested in what you have to teach, Master Alince," she said, walking over to the woman and the rat curled up in her hands, "May I?"

She meant Nibbles, with a gesture, looking from Phylis' face to the snoozing rodent. She wanted an even closer look, to examine the little creature in his resting state, in her own hands. Whether it was granted or not, she still petted the rat with soft strokes of her fingertips from the top of his head and down to his shoulders. Her interests had always been in great and fearsome beasts; that this rat intrigued her was interesting in itself.

He looked at all the faces in the room, most of which were struck dumb or cautious. But Théo could not stay put a moment longer. Letting go of his mother's hand, he moved over to the Jedi Master that had all but collapsed and from his pocket he pulled out some sweets that in any other galaxy would be known as chocolate. He presented them to Master Phylis, a little warm and melted maybe from his body heat, but who care! This matters not to Théo or kids.

"Master Phylis, I would like to learn how to do this one day, would you teach me?", so much for mother asking in private. Théo decided that he would 'inspect' Nibbles, and approached the girl holding the rodent. "He is cute", he offered his appraisal, "Hi my name is Théo". A hand reached up and stroked Nibbles while the other offered one of the spare lollies which Nibbles took instantly and ... nibbled.

There it was, a formal offer to train those present in Alkahest. It was the reason Audren was here, personally. He had no objection to being used as a battery should the situation require it, but it seemed only fair to have some sort of trade. Granted, there was likely much he could learn by simply staying around and watching, provided his energy wasn't drawn off so much as to knock him unconscious. Active learning was far more effective than passive learning in almost every case though.

"I'm interested."

The fuzzball of a test subject had fallen asleep right around the time he was being named as both Nibbles and Jedispawn. The latter was a play on Sithspawn, and he couldn't quite decide if it was clever or just awkward. The rodent certainly was a hit with many of the others though. Even so, if the little rodent used his probable newfound intelligence to get into the Padawan's sweets locker, it would be swatted in the blink of an eye.
